Many Stellantis products increased 50 percent in price over 3 years for the same model. Jeep buyers shop around for a used car. Jeeps do have good off-road capabilities - few EVs in that market because scraping the battery on a tree stump can total the EV. But most Jeeps might only occasionally drive on a dirt road - don't need 4 wheel drive.

The manufacturer increased prices to 30% since 2019, which is horrible. However, the dealships are scums as they added dealer markups, and on top of that, they treated customers like trash. People are fed up. Its a depreciating asset and NO ONE should be paying even MSRP let alone markups. The dealership pays invoice which is on average probably 10k under MSRP. So people need to wake up and stand up.

Jeep's market share might have returned if the European/Chinese owners had listened to the American consumers and respected their opinions instead of ignoring the requests and basically saying "we are smarter than you, so shut up and buy what we built". @hellomeatrobots
@hellomeatrobots 2 месяца назад
Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram have only been part of Stellantis since 2021, so the decline in sales started before Carlos Tavares came into the picture. The American operations continued to be mismanaged. Dodge dropped anything in their lineup that wasn't a muscle car or SUV. They had no family car, no economy cars and they were paying billions of dollars for carbon credits and fines on their lineup of nothing but gas guzzlers. And the prices on those went through the roof since 2020. Now at least part of the reason they can sell them is most of people who want a Dodge have one they overpaid for and are upside down in a bad loan. After the muscle car production ended at the end of 2023, Dodge dealers only had one Dodge built vehicle to sell, the Durango SUV. Chrysler also lost the 300, and was down to one model, the Pacifica minivan at the same time. The cars that were supposed to replace them are still in development. Now the American management team is out, but that's about two years too late.

The thing is, Stellantis have just shown the Fiat Panda in Europe which looks a great small EV (same platform and price as the Citroen e-C3) and I would expect these types of EV’s to be huge sellers. The problem is the old traditional types of products Jeep/Dodge/Ram are trying to sell are a diminishing market and Stellantis aren’t hoping to invest their money in them. Cheaper EV’s are the future and they know it.
@markferguson5652

@Isuperted They're NOT huge sellers. That's the problem. No one wants an ev. You can't force it on the public. Stellantis should sell off Chrysler,Dodge, Jeep and Ram to someone who understands their customer base.

honest question, why do shareholders keep crappy CEOs around. there seems to be a lot of CEOs these days sitting inside a burning building and just telling everyone that everything is fine. 39 million given to a CEO who oversaw a six year drop in sales seems insane to me. What would be the reason to not fire that guy.

Many are buying and restoring Jeep XJ Cherokee from the '90s - a robust simple design that made Jeep popular. A $4,000 XJ should be in pretty good shape with years of life remaining. The '96 and later XJ are improved over the '84 thru '95 XJ. Maintain an XJ and it could increase in value. XJ are excellent in 2 or 4 wheel drive and aftermarket support is huge.

I also dislike the dealership experience but have had better experiences with Toyota dealers (not that there aren’t bad ones), found the car I wanted on a local dealer website, emailed a kid (salesman) there said “here’s my trade info. I’d like 10% off sticker (I’m sure they gouged my trade in by that amount), my social for credit check, please have credit check performed and contracts ready to sign when I get there in 3 hrs.” And he did, I was in and out in under an hour and I’m going back to them (in Temple TX) for my next one. There are still decent dealerships.

Tavares is an accountant. He optimise costs. He started his big career in Peugot/Citroen company. Than he bought OPEL/Vauxhall and made it profitable by cost reduction and tech exchange between brands. Later on he made a fusion between PSA (Peugeot/Citroen/Opel) and FIAT - Chrysler creating Stellantis. Peugeot/Citroen was to small to survive. Even with Opel was too small. The same was with FIAT-Chrysler. Chrysler was not profitable for years - was owned by Mercedes ealier. IMHO Stellantis is a desperate attempt to save a bunch of companies "too Small to survive". Japan has Toyota, Germany has Volkswagen Group, France/Italy has Stellantis (including Opel from DE and some brands from USA).

Stellantis will have to offload some of their brands sooner or later, Chinese BEV manufacturers are circling by all accounts to snap up these Stellantis brand names that are not competitive or profitable. Look what SAIC did with the MG brand, they're now one of the top sellers across Europe. I don't think the Dodge brand in Chinese hands would go well though.

Jeeps are way overpriced compared to other offerings… No thanks I’ll look elsewhere.

It doesn't help that CDJR has been bought, sold, acquired and merged with another auto manufacturer 5 times since 1999. There's no continuity in management or future goals and new products. Several of those mergers and acquistions have seen wholesale management and engineering teams replaced and cancellation of future product plans. Also, Stellantis is scrambling to convert all it's European brands to BEVs by 2035 as mandated by EU law.

I was just in a Stellantis showroom in Parma Italy. What I saw was a sea of generic overpriced dreary lineup of mostly ICE and some EV models. I saw the Lancia Ypsilon 10 EV prised at 40k euros. The only cars worth looking at were just 2 Alfa models. The Stelvio cross over and the soon to be discontinued Julia sedan but all were either petrol or diesel models. I can't see why anyone would buy a Stellantis car.

To Stellantis, the Jeep and Ram brands have become nothing more than a cash cow to support its other global operations - they have an 18% profit margin, which is double GM's and triple Ford's - which is the basis for Tavaras big payday. What is good for Carlos is not good for Stellantis long term, but I doubt he cares so long as he is making $30 million a year. Jeep has become the brand that on price competes with Cadillac, Mercedes and Lexus, but without entry level models, as neither the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler or Wagoneer can be bought for less than $50k in most US states, and on average sell for close to $65k.
