There is another plug to the left of the axle shaft output, that is the overfill plug. With that one removed and the vehicle level the oil will drip out to the proper level.
My owners manual in the service interval chart clearly says to replace the auto trans oil. this guy is pretty spot on. There is a measurement to check oil level in case you spill some.

The dealer near my home they told me that is no need to change the filter they do offer me to make the transmission oil change but they don't service the filter. They quote me $535 dollars just to make the oil chage. They said that it takes 7 quarts. I already have 115k on the odometer. I'm planning to do it myself. What is your opinion about the filter? And do you think can I still do the oil changed even with the milage I already have? Ty in advance. Nice video!
You don't have to change the filter inside just add clean it all the time put another extra when you changing it but just add that's all you need to do that's what they thirty-two forty thousand Miles and you good
Just keep replacing it with that the oil and buy that oil that he said that 98 speed it's expensive but it's worth it that's all it's a special blend with the filter in there
I have a 2015 Jeep renegade I bought it used from Enterprise they sell cars cheaper than the dealership I've been in Florida over 35 years I'm not a mechanic but the cars I buy I study them I keep them for a while I have a 120,000 miles and that's what I've been and is still shifting like brand new

Here is something you all must take note of when it comes to transmission oil if you have changed it before the oil has broken down and turned brown or black before the oil has grit in it then you can continue to change your transmission oil for example if you have changed your transmission oil every 20000 miles then it is okay to keep changing it however it is important to understand that if you change it at 80,000 miles you are draining out all of that grit in all of that dirt which helped cause friction which is what helps your transmission shift so if you change your oil at a high-mileage you going to be doing harm to your transmission in the gears are not going to shift properly so if you noticed your transmission shifting harder or any clunkiness this is because you changed it At too high of mileage
What the heck are you saying?😂 it sounds like you are saying that when the fluid turns black it contains the dirt and grit that helps your transmission make friction so you shouldn’t change it? Dang dude. No, just no. How about I dump some sand In my transmission. That ought to help it shift by your logic. Or just let your transmission fluid turn black and never change it because that way it will contain grit and dirt and it will make it work well so you never have to change it ever. No no no. Yes black fluid has grit and dirt and some of it is from the friction surfaces wearing, but changing the fluid at that point is not going to make the transmission work any worse. All that grit that came off the friction bands aren’t doing ANYTHING for your transmission being suspended In the fluid EXCEPT impeding the hydraulic properties of your fluid. I’m willing to bet your experience here was this: waited until transmission problems to change the fluid. It was black. Soon after your transmission failed the rest of the way and you blamed it on the fluid change. Like waiting for a rod knock before changing the oil
@@neiljohnson9686 The ZF 9HP is not a common automatic transmission..... Last week I called the ZF transmission-service department for advise about a transmission-oil change/flushing my 200,000 km Renegade with the ZF 9-speed automatic. They advised me to be very careful doing this. Only when there are no shifting "problems" or wear at all. They always do a test-drive before a decision is made for an transmission oil change with or without flushing. Because the new oil gives less friction the electronically controlled shifting could be become very clunky. It could even damage the 9HP transmission! The Jeep manual advises to change the transmission oil with 240,000 km but that could be too late, according to the ZF technician..... Best thing to do is, all the car software updates incl. transmission and reset the shifting. Then a test drive with the new settings and look for any irregularities. If all perfect, transmission oil flush, otherwise do nothing! When customer still desires an oil change, only a refill with the same Mopar product. And not at the ZF service center because they don't want to give back a transmission that shifts worse than before....

I just started it and drove. Is simple, just put in what comes out. Like I said in the video, about 4.5 qt came out of my tranny, I put in 4.5 qt back.

So, I changed it the first time after I was sure how to do it @ 80k. Then again @ 100k because I wanted to have cleaner oil in it. The first change, the oil was really bad. And yes, there was improvement after both changes. The next one I plan to do it @ 150k.
hey, i ended up bringing ours to AAMCO they said they drained 7 quarts and it cost $28/qt. i’m sure they probably drained 4-5qts like you said, but i guess that’s business. i could have done it myself but i just didn’t want to risk it and don’t have time right now. anyway, i paid $360 vs about $150 DIY if anyone is interested.
Thanks for posting, needing to change the as my trans over heated in 4x4 mode, (1 note that should be made is to always remove fill plug 1st. Then the drain plug) so looks like the other posting another guy did is wrong by filling it on the side! & Ended up spilling fluid on his floor!😀
Hey Joel what year and model is your renegade? I’m just asking because I saw a video where a Jeep renegades filler cap was on the side of the transmission
2015. Filler cap is where I show on the video. Seen a bunch of videos about this transmission from mopar mechanics. That is the filler cap. The black cover in the front of transmission is the transmission valve cover.
Chrysler 200 with 2.4 is worst, you have to take off the wheel and tie rod to check fluid level in this 9 speed. 3.6 200s are better, because they have slightly different layout inside the engine bay.
My question is the dealer told me it’s lifetime fluid cause I brought it in to change. N they told me it’s lifetime so is that a lie I’m asking so I know if I have to change it or not.
All oil breakdown eventually. What they mean is that the oil is good until the tranny breaks down. But if you change the oil, the tranny will last you way longer than if the oil is never changed.
You want to change it before it starts slipping or acting up. It’s like changing your engine oil. If the engine seized up it’s too late. Same with the transmission. If you only plan to keep the car for 150k then trade it in or something don’t change any of your fluids and push your problems onto the next guy. If you’re trying to keep the car for a long time you want to change all your fluids regularly and that includes transmission fluid.
My jeep Renegade has 169.000km and never seen new oil trasmission. My MEC Say ti me that It never change It before 250000. Is It true? I think no. So could you Say to me where can i buy the oil trasmission? Thanks for all

No way should you use ATF+4 in a ZF 9-speed. The ZF needs a lower viscosity fluid like Red Line D6 or Amsoil Signature Fuel-Efficient Trans Fluid, or pay through the nose for the Mopar ZF stuff. And yes, the drain plug is 8mm hex.
I have a jeep renegade 2015 the same as yours and I changed the oil to the transmission and at the time I added the oil I put 4 and a half liters as it says in your video and the gear lever is locked, can you help me with a comment? suggestion thanks
@@youngpete6696 It kept leaking transmission fluid out of a hose. They finally said that the transmission needed to be replaced. I still don't feel its right to this day. I like Jeep but not impressed with this one.
@@ndhonda1282 from what i know they never almost ever actually replace them , i had an issue with big time gear noise at 35-40 mph like spinning gears or something took it to the dealer 5 times 1st it was the breaks they said 2nd it was the front tires they said 3rd it was just tire noise 4th it was “how it is designed “ 5th i just was soo pissed off how they said there was nothing wrong at all like if i was crazy , remember this is a 29k$ 20k mile car , i ended up doing my own research and decided to flush the trans oil you know empty and fill and empty and fill again 200$ later and problem solved runs like new , i was just so disapointed how they got me for ceramic breaks tire balance tires without ever mentioning trans fluid so disappointed .
@@youngpete6696 I was shocked for a vehicle with 6000 miles on it that all that work needed to be done. I'm going to be making an appointment this week to have it checked out. I just seems like the shift points are off and doesn't shift when it suppose to. I'm just torn on the whole thing with having these issues so early on. Hope that's the last of them.
