Replacement of the heater core on my 2005 Jeep TJ Unlimited (LJ). It should be the same process on most TJ Jeeps. Total Project time is approximately 5.5 hours. This is part 1 of 2, the second video being the reassembly.

Mine doesn't leak (yet) but a few years back I did a flush and reverse flush with the garden hose for the two heater lines and the core. It was amazing watching how much rust and junk came out of just the core. Once it ran clean one direction I swapped the hose and revere flushed it. Even more crap came out. I repeated this three times then reassembled it. Temps for the heater rose 10 degrees at the vents after the flush!!!

I'm glad the video was helpful! Oddly enough, my airbag light came on a few times after mine was done too. All I did was wiggle the connector and it went out and hasn't come back... I dunno!

So if you drill out the spot welds in the bracket that’s in the way of pulling the whole frame out you don’t have to drop the steering wheel at all I just bought two screws and nyelock nuts it saves time

Did you do the blower resistor while you were at I think I have replaced mine about every 50k and its a real PIA. Daveys Jeeps should have the windshield frame you need.

I had just replaced the blower restsitor before this work, actually! I was able to mine fairly easily from under the dash. Ended up finding a good, used windshield and frame locally and then painting it to match. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for the video, this is the best one I have seen and have been putting off this project for years. I think I might be ready now lol What part of NE Ohio ?

It's not a terrible job, actually. It takes some time but it's not terribly difficult. Just be sure and spray your heater core and a/c evaporator down with soap and water first. I neglected that part and it was pretty smelly for a couple weeks. I'm in Wayne County. You from the area?

The bracket behind the radio is an anti-theft "device" for it.

Haha, sounds about right. Kinda funny, really when you think about it in a Jeep Wrangler.

Ever since I found your videos a few months ago I felt like I'd heard your voice before. But I could never place it... until now. I think you sound very similar to Eugene Levy! Have you ever gotten that before? Great videos by the way!

Great in-depth quality video! How is the new core working out? I've replaced mine with Spectra/Four Seasons core couple of years ago; but, it's blowing only luke warm air. Lot of people on the forum had a same issue. So, I purchased one from Performance Radiators per forum members' recommendations. Planning to tackle the job in couple of days.

Thanks for the kind words! So far, I don't have any issues with the Four Seasons core aside from it stinking and creating an oily film on the windows for the first couple weeks of use (I should have washed it with soap and detergent before installation). I suspect the heat may not be quite as hot as it used to be, but it's been sufficient for NE Ohio winter which isn't exactly warm. Certainly nothinf worth removing it and starting over, in my opinion. Thanks for watching the channel!

How did you get the nut off for the cowl drain ? I can’t seem to get in there. Was going good up to this point.
@diymechanictv1233
@diymechanictv1233 6 месяцев назад
I can see where that might be hard to reach! Luckily, mine has a body lift on it, so there's extra room between the cowl and the back of the engine.

Hi did you have to drain the coolant and the refrigerant ?
@diymechanictv1233
@diymechanictv1233 6 месяцев назад
Refrigerant, yes. Coolant, no. I lost maybe a quart of coolant in the heater core, but didn't drain the radiator.
