Update on my steering wheel upgrade. Wheel is beautiful, however the wheel doesn’t actually fit on my 2003 Wrangler. The clock spring on my Wrangler is in the way of the new wheel. I am looking at installing a clock spring from the Cherokee, but the mounting is all different. This isn’t a direct replacement, for my application, without modifications.

Having just performed the WJ wheel swap in my 2006 rubicon here’s what I personally experienced: 1. The the clockspring didn’t fit as well on the WJ wheel compared to the TJ wheel. Yes, the spokes are the same but the actual mounting part of the wheel is slightly different. 2. The factory “required” 40 ft lbs for the steering wheel bolt is overkill for the WJ wheel. 40 ft. lbs will crush your clockspring and you’ll lose return to center while driving. 3. Trying to get the back controls to work is a huge PITA. I removed the WJ plastic and replaced it with the back plastic from the original wheel to eliminate the presence of non-functioning buttons. 4. horn, cruise control, etc. all wired up nicely and functioned correctly. Did anyone else have the issues with the WJ wheel swap?

Hi did you have any issues with the clock spring, I have just done this wheel conversion and the clock spring dose not fit above and below the boss of the wheel. The new wheel has a taller boss plate than the old. This difference between the 2 wheels looks to be the same in the video. Dose your clock spring still fit and function correctly.

What a great mod. I'm ordering mine today. Do things tighten and loosen the opposite way on right-hand drive TJs? Jk :)

Were there any differences in the wheels? They look identical to me. Cruise buttons and airbag are the same. In other works, how can you tell the difference between a WJ and a TJ wheel?

Darryl, I'm a recent owner of a 98 TJ and replacing the steering wheel is high on the list. I don't see the contact info for the guy in Poland making these. Can you repost it?

Thanks for sharing. I'm replacing the steering wheel on my 06 TJ as well. Using your video as a guide, do you have any advice or gotchas to watch for? Did you have any trouble with the airbag light, and how long did you have the battery disconnected before you pulled the airbag?

It's been a year since you responded to another viewer's question of being able to control the volume and radio with the back of the steering wheel. Could they install or possibly modify the clock spring so that it will work in our TJ's?

Any update on the audio connections at the back of the steering wheel… I just purchased an alpine double din stereo for my jeep TJ, and would like to update the steering wheel provided that I can get the audio controls to work…

Do you have to torque that bolt that connects the shaft to the steering wheel?
