my 2010 compass have a tranny code p167a, but it will not clear the code because for some reason my scanner reads rpm at 3488 but engine is off? since the conditions are not met (the scanner thinks engine is running but is not). what can cause the scanner to read 3488 rpm when engine is off?
Mine also had a bad throttle body. I did the relearn and it would fix it temporarily. It made it to 180k and now has the code p0777 p0730. It revs but doesn't move much and then the throttle goes unresponsive completely (assuming some kind of limp mode). I finally threw a throttle body in it hoping it would fix it but no luck.
My sister inlaws car is a 2012 jeep patriot. Itd have trouble getting up to speed and didnt feel like itd wabt to shift so obviously limp mode well two shops recommended a trans swap so we did and now the car went into limp mode again except this time it can go 65mph and you can press on the gas and speed will stay and rpms will rise or you can drive totally like normal. Is just super intermittent wether its limp mode or not. The check engine light is on. The furst shop claimed they replaced the throttle body before diagnosing it as the transmission. Thabk you for the tip on the codes i will try that tomorrow. And ideas on what it could be?
Hi Sam. It's Mrs Wrenching. Post your issue on the Facebook page Wrenching with Kenny & Backyard Mechanics (be sure to answer all the questions for Backyard Mechanics). Your post has to include any codes the vehicle has & what driveability issues you're having. Thanks for watching! Meg
The jeep 4 cylinders line up engines are European, German I think. My 2014 conpass was 120k and I had to swap my throttle body. It would switch to low power for a mass air vacuum leak and some other code. Haven't had an issue since. Took about a 6 pack and I was done and back on the road. Throttle no longer runs off a cable so the chip set was going out so mine wouldn't close, jeep felt like the transmission was slipping or hard shifting too. Sometimes it would accelerate hard on its own.
Love jeeps hate everything else from them. Great video but you should include the fix if not the last result or have a commentary in the end explaining exactly what fixed it
Just thinking you're well spoken easy to understand & just need to do complete video's. Keep up the good work & consider what I said. Some ppl click & skip to the end. You'll widen your audience getting more views
my 2011 jeep compass has the low tire pressure sign that goes on and off, then the check engine light goes on and off randomly then tonight it went into limp mode with traction control off light on and was accelerating slowly like super slowly i pulled over turned it off started back up it went off and then came back on and went back into limp mode, any ideas?
It wasn't a jeep, but that happened to my 05 Vibe. 5 speed manual, wouldn't go over 2500 or so in any gear, couldn't go over 40mph. It was the throttle body position sensor. Replaced the throttle body. $50 and a couple of bolts. I imagine if that sensor goes out the vehicle goes into limp mode.
I just did the same thing and it didn't work at all maybe it's pending but I have 4x4 light Trac control and abs light come on and then I can only drive 10 mph for like a couple minutes but she'll kick out of that and go back to normal after
My dodge went into limp mode then wouldn't start again, no compression in 4 cylinders can limp mode cause that i know it can mess with timing ? Pkease help😮
You probably have the multiair engine. If it's not started for a while, you'll lose oil pressure on the valve tappets and it won't start. Just keep cranking it for what seems like a dick-year and it'll regain pressure and fire.
I got a 2015 compass, lightning bolt is on and flashing. I cleaned the throttle body, my battery works, my oil is fine, but the car is stuck in limp mode, engine light is on and the codes I have are U1424, U1407 and P161B (i think). I’m just so confused and annoyed with it, I’m not sure if it’s the throttle body or the transmission control module.
@@queertube8153Thanks man, it was the throttle body. I spent about $75 on the part searched up how to do it online and fixed it. Definitely better than spending $550 to get the car checked out and fixed.
There's many reasons it could be a repeat repair . First , why was it replaced a few months ago? What were the codes? What's it doing now? What are the codes now? Limp mode, where the throttle body won't work, doesn't necessarily mean the throttle body is no good. It could be a pedal issue, a wiring issue, transmission issue, ABS issue, engine issue. It has to be diagnosed to figure out what's going on
@@WrenchingWithKenny the little lightning bolt came up on the dashboard I took it to the mechanic shop and I said yeah you have a bad throttle body they replaced it it worked fine then it just started acting up again every morning before I start it it makes a loud noise like like air coming out after I start it then the idle is kind of shaky when it's warming up it looks like he wants to die I've had the vehicle for 10 years I've never changed the spark plugs and never had a tune-up I'm thinking about doing that next when I got it I only had 80,000 miles now I have 190,000 it's a 2010 Patriot my airbag light has been on for like 6 months I took it to Jeep they said there was a recall on the sensor for the airbag they replaced it but they couldn't get the light off the dashboard and I always have a low tire sensor seems like it's common for these Jeeps to have the same issues I'm thinking about selling it I have an offer for $2,000
@@louismfrancojr2462 just got this December and it's like this too.I die out on the road to the next residential place. Not even paid off yet and giving me problems.
