Jeep Wrangler JK vs Nissan Patrol, 4x4 recovery bonus 

Looks like a fun time. As a experienced off roader I would recommend pulling from the back of the towing vehicle. Differential gears are designed to take a greater load when the vehicle is moving forward. Also, tie something like a blanket in the middle of the tow strap to slow down a recoil if the strap breaks. Have fun!

Sorry about your experience, might have got a Lemon? I am driving my Jeep for 2 years now. Not even one issue or repair. I am more then happy. You are pretty loud with hating on Jeeps on my Videos, but I leave the comments on. Everybody has a right to share their opinion ;)

No lockers on the Patrol? Good tyres on the Jeep as well. Same as my Land Rover. Good man.

Its all about tire size to the weight. Patrols has more space, muscle look and more solid construction and axles. They can take bigger tires more easily. Wranglers are more fun due roof take off, and sweet look. They are lighter as well. They both off-road super compatible cars. I don't understand the hate to the patrols. Compeering should be the the same car versions - shot/long and the same modes. That will be fair.

the patrols need to stick to the beach and fishing ;-). Also if you use a snatch block you will double your winch pulling force and use the extra straps to connect 2-3 jeeps/yodas together as anchor points to prevent sliding.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a Patrol hater ;) And I was talking specifically about Lockers / LSD because I was answering Edgard. In most situations Patrol would make it easier if his LSD would work or if he would have lockers. Jeeps JK are equipped with BLD from factory, its not a extra model like VWs GTA or something, every JK have it. Please don't feel offended with that video, I am aware that the "Mod lvl" is not the same. Thats why I wrote in the description: "not a serious compariso

The unlocked swaybar on the Jeep is making the difference here.

Jeep Wrangler JK Sport has BLD (Brake Lock Differential) front and rear, which works excellent and is the reason why I didn't fit lockers yet. The Patrol GU suppose to have LSD in the rear, but I don't see it working. Patrols are maybe good, but need lots of mods before they can keep up. My friends full stock JK with stock tires went up the first hill as well.

i've owned 2 yj's, a tj and an 89 patrol. the nissan was the only one i never worried about breaking. love my jeep but would trade it in a heartbeat to have my patrol back

One think people may forget about snorkels: they are not only for air in deep water. A higher intake point also helps in dusty amd sandy locations.

The wrangler is not locked as stated in the video description. However, the JK Wrangler Sport utilizes an electronic Brake Lock Differential (BLD) system. Essentially, it senses wheel spin and applies the brake to the slipping wheel which redirects the power to the opposite wheel. It's not a replacement for true locking differentials but it is a very capable system.

no offense guys, but it seems funny to me that guys outfit their rigs with all that gear including snorkels but their rigs cant even go places that requires a snorkel. just sayin....

And the Jeep is Shortwheelbase - which has a massive advantage over a longer wheel base vehicle in terms of Axle Articulation, entrance and exit approach angles

Well done guys. 4x4ing is all about getting out there. Getting stuck and breaking stuff is all part of the fun. Good on you. I drive with Jeeps, Nissans and Toyotas, they are all capable. I have respect for all of them with all sorts of mods. I often get out-driven by them, and yes, I drive a Unimog. It's all good. Good vid. Keep it up.

To be fair, if the Jeep is a "Sport" edition like you claim, it's most likely not "Stock" in the sense that the dealer probably have customized it for you. Like Golf GTI's can't really be called "Stock" Golf. And the shorter wheelbase of the Jeep REALLY helps out in twisted hills, the Patrol just beached too much because of more surface area for the car to get snagged on. I think wheelbase was the biggest factor here, a 2 door version of the same patrol would easily do as well as the Jeep.

Word of advice to the Jeep owner. Don't pull in reverse. The front axle is taking most of the strain, and it won't hold up. Always try to pull going forward.

Good vid mate. Unfair comparison between the two. The patrols are heavier and didn't have 35s our lockers like the Jeep. Don't drive either car but love them both. The only thing that speed the gold patrol from getting thru that bog hole was the tow bar hitch. You gotta take it off cause it ruins your departure angle. Thanks for sharing

Nice ride! Those Patrols need lockers if they want to keep up with the Jeep. You can't compare them just because of the weight difference. They are in a different league!

I used to own a patrol just like the gray one. Both are running stock suspension apparently and crappy tires, that's why the jeep had the advance at every situation. Anyone who says that Patrols are bad truck obviously hasn't ever driven one, besides patrols have rear lsd, which the jeep I think doesn't have.

Differential lockers and taller, mud terrain tires are a good start. If you don't have a Rubicon then you probably don't have Dana 44 axles. So I wouldn't go any taller tires that 33'' or you run the risk of breaking an axle shaft. This will give you better ground clearance. However a 2'' lift at least is needed or these tires will rub. Whatever you do please keep the chrome tube bumpers and rock guards off.

Don't be misled by the vid... Jeep had the lift and mud tires, while the other two seemd to have stock configuration. If all three were equiped in the same manner and with the same performance tires, the result would be radically different than what is seen in the vid.

This looks like so much fun! Incredible how capable these vehicles are, if you think of it. Especially the slightly modded Jeep. Not sure about the recovery techniques used at the end, especially the snapping strap: a more elastic strap should have been used imho to build up kinetic energy. But I haven't got much experience in recovery so I might be wrong here. Anyway, have fun and drive safe!

Its not the car, its the driver. To each their own. I love my jeep and looking to upgrade to a Rubicon in a year. Gonna go and accomplish the jeep jamboree.

I have a SWB JK as well. I've never managed to go where a LWB has not been able to follow me, but there have been places that the LWB JK has gone that I was not able to go. LWB is better on very steep climbs and descents. LWB stock JK is phenomenal off road for a stock vehicle.

maxtraxx and a winch with a tree saver would have recovered that in 5 minutes

Jeep has no rival for out of the box capability - unless we include a super expensive Unimog or Kama3. Jeep all day - every day! 💪🏻 I’ve wheeled with Toyota, Nissan, Land Rover, Ford Bronco, & the 2-door Jeep is a billy goat; hard to stop.

lol i just wanna say, ive had nissans and toyotas all my life, and recently past 3 1/2 yrs, ive been driving my '07 cherokee and man let me tell ya, I LOVE MY JEEP...once im done with my cherokee im getting a JK i have seen the light and i have been welcome to the jeep heaven :D just watching the little JK rescue the Big Patrol out of the mud lol made my night lol

Maybe because the Rubicon goes more places. Rubicon- front and rear e-lockers, with electric sway bar disconnect. Toyota- rear lockers only and with independent front suspension, there is no sway bar to disconnect, giving it less articulation.

That was rather interesting. Best to not snatch backwards if you can help it though, reverse gear sets aren't very strong.

sorry to interject but the Sport package is just the most basic custom package for Jeep with difference only in the trim, wheels style etc. but only few special editions like Call of Duty and very few others have anything different traction wise except for the Rubicon of course. So here the stock Sport JK has nothing other then noted it just has more clearance and better flex stock than most other stock 4x4 vehicles.

Hilux's, Tacoma's, Patrols, JKs....etc it doesn't matter... we all hate the new FJ.

This is what off roading is about, going somewhere nobody can with your friends and enjoying the ride. Believeme they didnt go there to compare their rigs

new feature we're doing is the front end jk verse nissan patrol toyota landcruiser and availability of parts and price what we have come up with is quite shocking there and definitely worth a look in a heads up for your next 4x4 jk clutch alone $6000. Toyota $650.. more to come. PS no jk parts on Sunday or away from city

suggestions: kill the music 4 low more often(it is all about control) the winch has more power when most of the rope is wound out. put the shovels away unless you go poop in the bush consider winching on thru the problem instead of back out of it. make the guy with a winch go first or make the jeep go first. Jeeps Rule!

Sorry to disagree with your comparison, but I had an old 1967 Patrol, and while the Jeep was set up for offroad ventures, that was a newer Patrol which isn't nearly the vehicle the old ones were. My old Patrol would go ANYWHERE, and I do mean ANYWHERE.

And which vehicle is more bang for buck? My pro4x has 1/10th the road noise my jeep does, has a roof rack, has cargo room with tie downs, actually retains heating and a/c, has a stereo I can hear, never breaks down or fails to start on first attempt (like my jeep does randomly since day 1), more comfortable seats, and a million more factory options and still costed less than my USED jeep. Jeep has a HUGE fan base made up of fanboys and gets a leg up based on that instead actual fact. No different when comparing an apple to a PC. Apple is better if you are a fanboy and have more money to spend on less function and control and wanna look cool for all the other yuppies, but for less money, I'll take the water cooled gaming PC with much better specs.

I bet I could take my $1500 beater RRC through that. I've never been in the bush with a Nissan Patrol but I've been there with a ton of Jeeps, they're very capable off road. Just make sure to improve on a lot of the driveline and suspension components because MAN do those things like to blow up parts. They're just made so bloody cheap. They work great but they are built cheap and break in weird ways. Every 4x4 has its ups and downs, I suppose.

Big difference in a short shell base and a long wheel base patrol... And here in Sri Lanka Patrol is one of the best because of the resell value and reliability.... Jeep has no chance expect the Grand Chrokee which is more of an on road car!! This is for people who are comparing these two vehicles!!

Good call. Late as u would see in the 4wd action future. It did do well on the tracks. 12.5 33 m/t mtz a better lift. 10psi a traction control update. (By Leo mulla Jeep) It worked well. Also had the best approach and departure angle as you would know. And fun with the top off.. just may not be the right 4x4 for us.. have fun at the end of Th day hey..

time for the winch owner to buy a snatch block.. you guys had a winch available and continued to try snatching the Patrol out.. LOLZ...

I a toyota man myself but nissan patrol is the most competition set up 4 wheel drive mostly used throughout 4 wheel drive racine and competing due to its bulletproof drivetrain

The ground clearance is different, the Patrol sits lower than the wrangler, I would say the comparison is between two vehicles of different classes. I would have used the xtera instead of the Patrol

trust me those patrols are very good (I'm a jeep guy) a lot of the problems they were having was because they were stock one of them had AT tires that's it, also they kept getting hung up on their diffs and patrols have really big diffs.

more over, i wonder if the trowing dirt in the puddle and making the angle of the entry to the puddle shallow was for the benefit of the Patrols, cause i sure know the JK would have flown by the puddle and not even notice lol and the patrols still barely got out lol what a shame lol tell the dealer to give your money back and go buy a Jeep my friend, you will love it more then any other car trust us...

Jeeps LOL Americans for sure, very naive. Majority of off road vehicles in Australia are set up as tourers due to long distances they travel. The Landcruisers and Nissans with the extra space are the vehicle of choice by most, also those two makes have been around longer and parts readily available compared to other makes. Trips to the Simpson and Cape are often 3 week trips or longer. Jeeps, Land Rovers, Mitsi's and even Lada's all have their place, it is all about what you want to do with them and your personal preference and budget. Personally I have two Land Rovers, but I respect people's rights to own what they choose and it is all about having fun and enjoying the day.

Well said. Comp patrols run patrols parts . Jeep run every thing BUT jeep parts just the body. 350 chevs u can just about name it. I was at land cruiser park just watching comp trucks practicing. Wow those Nissans can take a really beating. Still running 4.2 turbos. Toyota hiluxs land cruisers. Was 1 jeep

I've tried to rescue someone who was stuck something like that. When I tried to winch them it would just pull me closer to them instead of them to me. What I did was use the tow strap and anchor my rear bumper to a tree behind me and then I was able to winch them out, no problems.

We got a GU stuck in the same spot. But he was packed up with all the touring gear and only legal lift and tyres.

You guys do realize that none of you, including the Jeep, were set up for that, right? What you guys managed to turn in to a 5 hour recovery (with massive damage) should have been about 10 minutes as well.

Update = Now got one :-) Enjoying every minute behind the wheel. They are everything that you would expect................. and more!!!

My girlfriends Xterra is the only vehicle I have ever heard of snapping a cam in half. Just about everything else that could go wrong with it has. Don't get me wrong, the old solid axle Patrols are pretty cool (and were inspired by the Jeep), but Nissan does not have a great durability rep with its trucks.

If you have a nice vehicle and you do serious four wheeling with it. You will screw it up. I am not talking mechanical. Im talking cosmetic. Paint scratches, dents, wheel/bumper damage etc. If you dont care.Then that is fine. I would do that shit with a beater 4x4 in primer. I learned my lesson with my truck. I really don't understand people hanging shit on others choice of vehicle. My mates hung shit on me for buying a jk until they went bush with me now they love it. Jeeps are awesome vehicles, so are patrols cruisers Lux's and a whole bunch of other makes its all about having fun isn't it.

I owned I mate. Its in the 4wd action mag 187. Got it brand new. Then put a full ARB catalog on it. OK. Sold it. Y. Could not trust it. Always in getting so much fixed on the thing. For a 4x4 at the date sold just under 50 000ks. Parts were so dear. All parts were covered but. I could not afford 2 have owned it out of warranty. Still lost 28 grand all up. Don't kid you self. Lay down and look at the shity damper hanging down weak non greased ball joints and weak CV. Fuel tank hanging 100mm .
