I run a 37" tire with the Mopar reinforcement and oversize tire carrier bracket with no problems. You could not do that with a JK, but the JL they used magnesium for the rear door interior to make it stronger and lighter weight. Good video.
Great choice on the Warn bumper and Tire Carrier. It's on my wish list when I get to that point in my build. Thanks for the step by step. You do a good job of explaining the install and the little details like the wires being too short.
Hey, thanks for the video. I just installed mine last night. I ended up taking an angle grinder to my OEM tire carrier and cut the camera housing out of it. I cleaned up the edges and painted the bare metal and was able to place it back over the camera. If you have a thick wheel your studs may not be long enough to do this, but now I have some protection back over my camera, which is very hand when trying to lift a 100+ lb spare back up onto a lifted Jeep.
Thanks for the vid. Thinking of upgrading our rear bumper due to some bumper dragging we did. We have the Elite front and this would be a perfect match for the rear.
I've enjoyed your videos. I'm super OCD. I like the tire carrier mod! Line up the Jeep symbol on the rim so it is at the top or bottom; would look cool IMO. Getting ready to buy a 2022 Ecodiesel Wrangler; my 2nd Jeep since my 1977 CJ7.
Great channel and I really enjoy your vids. In many ways it inspired me. In fact, I just went out and purchased 2020 Manual Transmission JL last weekend.
Good video. Some things to know: The socket size called out in the video is too small. Its a standard size, not metric, and its bigger. I forget the real size at this point. The design of this bumper is pretty good but def. not perfect. It rattles in two places. There is way too much "play" around the thick rubber washers on that small adjustable arm, and it rattles like crazy, so I stacked up a bunch of washers around it to make it tight. That worked well. The worst noises were coming from where the spare tire post goes into the square receiver. It has a bolt you tighten down to hold it but that is way too small, and there's too much slop, kind of like all trailer hitches. So, I put cold shrink around the square tube and that make things super tight, and now it does not make noise. Finally there's the camera. This kit pretty much leaves out a decent provision for the camera, so I just made my own with parts from my other spare tire carrier and cold shrink again. I am happy overall with the bumper however. It looks great, and the people I know who have other brands have noise issues as well.
I had an AEV carrier on my JK which was very similar. While very nice, it definitely would require fairly frequent adjustments to keep it snug against the body otherwise it would start rattling and squeaking.
Thanks for a great video as this is the bumper I was going to get but was wanted to se how it looked. Like you I wanted it to extend and meet up with the fenders
You can reuse the factor camera cover/plate. Just cut everything that was behind the stud stock plate off, then mount the plastic and aluminum camera housing on the stud plate between the warn mounting surface and your spare. The stock aluminum plate/camera cover takes us about 1/4" of stud threads.
Looks like the the tire carrier covers part of the right taillight. I’d get pulled over in my state. But I like it. Real solid. Typical Warn quality. How heavy is it?
I like but the only negative is it seems to block the passenger taillight. I’m going to install the Smittybilt HD which I have to relocated the 3rd brake light. Overall great video and I love the rigg!!!
Thx. I never much thought of the tail light covering to be an issue but many have pointed it out. The LOD bumper mounted carrier was mu second option and doesn't block the light.
Casey can you please elaborate on the parking sensors? Did not see any part of your video that covered that part of the installation. That would be very helpful. If you’re not running sensors. That would be good to know as well. This is the only video on this bumper install. Wished it was a little more detail.
I bought the rear bumper and it is great. Sadly, I did not go for the tire carrier because it does block the right tail light, little things can be so irritating knowing that WARN engineers didn’t count for it!!
To me , I don’t think it looks OeM , the only company that makes OEM looking products is AEV . Great job tho I love The channel and enjoy all Jeep videos but I’m gonna wait to AEV releases there JL product line bumpers. I had them on my JKRU 5.7L hemi black ops edition. I sold it to get the new JLRU and I miss the power of a hemi but the gas mileage on the newer model wranglers is great compared to previous models.
Aev makes real nice gear too from what ive seen. I make these types of videos to show off a mod and hopefully you guys either like it and buy it or learn you don't like it and don't waste your money 👊👊 Wait till you see the video I just made with the diesel fuel economy!
I like that you added a frame mounted tire carrier . . . any particular reason for the full width bumper as opposed to a shorty? I'd be interested to know what the weight difference the new bumper/tire carrier added over the stock bumper. I'm anxiously watching you're build while my EcoDiesel order waits for the assembly line to re-open . . .
I guess it could be considered more of a frame mount. I went full width because its legal and wanted to see how it did with larger tires, but I also don't see any reason I cannot remove the bumper and run this carrier on the frame rails and add a couple tow hooks for a really minimal setup ;) As for weight the bumper felt similar to the stock steel, so the added weight would mostly be from the arm.
Looks Awesome, I appreciate the integrated look that doesn't make it seem out of place. What was with the tailgate to carrier link on the carrier side? Looked like there was a lot of play up and down and you had to really bend the bracket to get it snuggled up?
Lod was the other option. The warn one requires no drilling at all. I could also take the bumper off and leave this carrier on the frame for an ultra minimal setup.
Great question. I did not see him do any of the removal of the wiring harness from the factory bumper. There did not appear to be any installation brackets available for the parking sensors. Holes are drilled in the bumper. But no way to mount the sensors. Hopefully Casey will respond to this question???
@@TrailAdventuresTV @mpk3055 We have this same carrier and had to order factory bezels to snap into the bumper for the sensors. But they all fit and work, we had the factory plastic bumper. Not sure if it would've been different off from the factory steel.
Might be an early question. What kind of oil are you going to run? Lots of controversy on the types. Just curious to get some input I have the 2020 ram 1500 Ecodiesel. I found The 5w40 Pennzoil Euro today on sale at Canadian Tire for 39.99 but still Not sure.
Ya, the bumper and carrier look great, but partially covering the right brake lite might be an issue with the highway patrol. They can be a bit fussy about that sort of stuff here in AZ
If I am being pulled over and the officer is worried about my tire carrier very moderately obstructing my tail light from certain angles on my Jeep modified to run 37s or 40s then this carrier is going to be the least of my worries.
Hey Casey, I am planning on ordering the Warn rear bumper with the spare bumper mount. How do you like it? I have rear sensors so I was wondering if you had them on your rig? Any issue or concerns? I am getting the lift and putting 37's on my diesel. I have been waiting for the AEV rear bumper, but after saying it was going to be release in August and once again they failed to release it I have decided to spend my money on a Warn Bumper. Thanks!
No complaints. I really like it. No squeeks or rattles. It has holes for sensors (I dont have sensors so I can't speak to how well they work). I would recommend not putting the license plate on the side and get an alternate mount for in the middle of the spare tire as my plate hit my body and scratched it but the mount is removable. I also prefer the plate on the spare tire.
I have an eco diesel without a hitch, and am looking at either trying to find a rear bumper that has a class III hitch, or installing a stand alone hitch (I.e.- uhaul or curt), what would you recommend?
@@Casey250 Yes. It is a wrangler JLUR eco diesel. I’ll look for class II. Do you have any you rear bumpers would recommend? I’m looking to upgrade to steel, and am new to the wrangler world.
