Dash speaker replacement on a Jeep Wrangler YJ switched to 4x6 Infinity Kappa. Dropping the windshield and pulling the dash to limit damage of speakers and properly mount them.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar! Every other video I've watched on this has been at least 15 minutes long and you got straight to the point! May your life be blessed!
Your jeep is in incredible shape. When I first folded my windshield, the hinges were just about seized and the amount of rust underneath was gross. I'm assuming you come from somewhere with no snow or salt on the roads lol. Good video.
Thanks to you providing a clean, quick, and precise video this helps me before I break my dash pad in my 88 yj to put in my new 4x6 corner dash speakers well done!
Thanks for making this I had a one or two questions and this nailed the rest. couldn't find anything to be able to get to the nuts from the lower windshield bracket bolts.
I had new 95 back in 96 and I wanted to change out those 2 front speakers. I looked everywhere for info with no luck. So I just left them in. Damn 90's and no youtube.
Great video, only two things I would suggest for your next video. turn your camera, nobody wants to watch a little tiny video on a verticle screen, especially if it's not high definition. And second, they're called "torx" bolts not "star" bolts. The video was super helpful, I'm not sure why people are so scared to do this job, jeep designed this in a way that makes it so people can't steal your sound system easily in an open top vehicle. Thanks for doing this video.
Thank you thank you thank you! Enough info to tackle it now ..... I have a 92 Renegade wrangler , and sometimes a visual reference is all we need to get started !
NEX I ended up doing it several times due to poor speaker selection and a loose connection. I ended up with Infinity Kappa. O suggest soldering the wires on to the speakers and make the wires connect low so you can reach them after the install.
William West is there anything else you had to unscrew? I have a 92 YJ and I do everything in the video and I have not space at all its hardly being pushed out, any suggestions?
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed. Just a quick question...What size torx bit for the three smaller screws on the speaker cover, what size for the visor removal and, what size torx bit required for the top of the dash, after the windshield is lowered? I know the big ones are T40...
OMG you do not understand how thankful I am for this video!!! According to my Chiltons you are just supposed to reach up from underneath & go behind it. My hands look like i tried to milk an unwilling tiger! 😂
Hells yeah man, I threw some speakers in the back of my YJ that now put the blown fronts too shame. Gunna replace the lower windshield weatherstrip and put LED dash lights now that I know what to do! T H A N K S!!!
this video just broke my heart... getting my windshield frame back in place took 3 men and ratchet straps and I'm not looking forward to doing this again lol
This video is dead on correct. An impact driver is helpful for the star bolts..also have some spacers ready for the inside speaker posted since the original speakers have a large rubber spacers built in.. You may need 8 half inch rubber spacers. Great job on the video
Farmdog Fast - great video. I am getting ready to order my speakers. Crutchfield says the Infinity Kappa 462.11 cfp you have recommended will not fit and they recommend a Kicker speaker. Did you have to fabricate to make the infinity kappa speakers work? Thanks!
Thank you! I’m looking for sound quality the first time so I don’t have to do it again😃. Thanks again for your help and for the video. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
I have a 95 yj also and I have a hard too and I loosend up the hard top and lifted it up a bit and the thing still worn move forward and everything is un done I was wondering what is wrong
You can remove them by pulling the parking brake assembly, and the tach, but even then it is a tight fit for your hands. There are little tiny sheet metal nuts holding the speakers in. I agree, there are many things that Jeep should have absolutely done differently. Torx bits anyone?
