Today I'm installing new sound bar speakers in my 1992 Jeep YJ Jurassic Park Edition. My old speakers were completely rotted out and with this upgrade we are making a huge improvement to the sound quality in the jeep. I also try to take out the aftermarket radio and replace it with an original factory Jeep YJ radio, but it didn't go as well as I planned.

Love it! Could always add Bluetooth and aux to that factory radio. There are RU-vid tutorials on how to do it. I have a stock YJ radio and the Bluetooth works like a champ!

@@SimplyMustGo i got a radio from this guy a couple of years ago. he cleaned it up really nice, added blue background LED to match my dash lights, and added an aux channel. I just plugged in a bluetooth rx and tucked it up in the back.

I know it's been 2 months but I just wanted to let you know that heat shrink for wires is your best friend. Or if you already have the wires connected you can use liquid tape.

@@SimplyMustGo well I had a 95 back in the day and I'm looking for another one. But heat shrink and liquid tape was the best. It keeps water out and we know if you take the top off its going to rain not dought about it. But as far as your radio make sure its grounded good or it want work properly. Wished I was closer I'd help you out. I grew up in NC lived there up until 7 years ago now I live in Missouri.

i have seen people who put the stock radio in and then use a newer one and “hide it” in there center console

Very nice!! Don’t forget to also do the fronts so they match. You don’t want the rears to blow away the fronts.

Yeah. I actually already did the front when I replaced the dash frame, so they are good. So it’s a nice balance.

i have seen people who put the original radio in and then “hide” a newer style radio in the center console so they still get the bluetooth and stuff

I got the kicker's for the front two dash speakers and they were a great upgrade. Had a specialist install it who said it was a doozy so that was definitely worth it to pay someone else lol

Haha yeah. I had to replace my dash frame and had my front ones replaced then since it was all off and easy to do at that point.

I don’t think I did one on a soft top cushion, are you thinking of the roll bar padding? If so they are the best top spice roll bar pads.

Every single time I do this to my 92' it all gets stolen, because they're so easy to break into. I bought two motion sensor alarms that I think might have helped. We'll see..

So how does that happen exactly, are they breaking in at your house or while you're parked in a parking lot etc... I hear about that stuff, but have a hard time envisioning someone doing that in a parking lot in broad day light.

@@SimplyMustGo Yes. I drive it everyday, but It sits under a carport at night. Hardtop and full doors or not. One of the doors is just open in the morning sometimes. They even stole my fire extinguisher, license plate gas hinge frame and just the face of my stereo one time..., That's just mean. Could be worse I suppose. No glass or expensive things stolen or broken on purpose..

How did you discover the ground issue (screwing in the radio)? Did you redo the install and did it work?

Beav told me about the grounding issue. But even after redoing it I couldn’t get the radio to work or at least get the Display to turn on to figure out what was going on. Hoping to revisit it this weekend.
