Excellent! Exactly why I made the video. Might be because I’m not in any Alpha Strike-specific online communities, but I’ve never seen this one be mentioned. Funnily enough, I was editing this video and listening to the latest The Mechbay podcast yesterday… and they actually did mention it.
Under the Damage section, beside each of the numbers for the S-M-L rolls, there's another set of numbers that goes up whenever a value on the OV scale is selected. Is this supposed to be the damage done in each bracket. (IE: Short shows +4 at OV 0. At OV 1 it shows 5+, then 6, 7, etc. What is that?
The second number is the current target number including modifiers stemming from range, criticals, heat etc. If you have a mech with a pilot skill of 4, you’ll notice that at L range it’ll say (+4 I 8+), so you’ll hit with an 8+ plus any other modifiers like TMM, cover etc. A fire control crit for example will bump that number up to 10+ automatically in the tool. The OV scale is actually the heat scale. Heat in Alpha Strike makes your firing (and movement) worse, which is why that number goes up. The OV value is something not all mechs have, and using it enables a mech to cause more damage in one turn than normally, with the drawback of generating heat and thus making you slower and worse at shooting in the next turn.
It’s something I was wondering about too. Check his Twitter, he has very understandable reasons not to have updated in a while. Really hope he’s doing OK.
The Alpha Strike Roster is basically feature complete, though, and the database is integrated with MUL. Maybe there simply isn’t much to work on anymore?
