Jeff was interviewed in a Guitar World or Player mag about the slide solo in Blaze of Glory and the guy was a amazed when his reply was that there's no slide in the solo. Fender had the then new roller nut system with locking nut and that stability return spring on the trem. It's an absolutely stunning guitar solo.
You might like Michael lee firkins who does similar effects (obviously came out much after jeff) in albums like chapter eleven- he is a mixture of country, blue, rock and jazz 😬 so the songs do change throughout the albums. Another underrated guitarist ☹️
@@lizaltman1200That was quite aggressive. I haven’t heard him do much of that slide type whammy bar stuff. Do you have any examples? It seems to me like they have similar tones and use a lot of minor pentatonics (in a not cliche kind of way), but their phrasing and techniques seem very different.
How could anyone dislike THIS??? Good God. . .one vibrato bar/bent note from Beck sends shivers in me. I love all kinds of guitarists. But Beck really is the holy one.
They must be better players .. for the idiots, this isn’t “likes” for taste, it’s about talent .. to not appreciate that in JB is a sign of musical ignorance. 🤷🏻♂️
This is probably one of the coolest Beck videos I’ve watched! Casually rolls a a cig. Telling him the to put the Rat back. Just great stuff. RIP Jeff Beck
This is one of my top 3 favorite tracks of all time. If anybody reading this is wondering what the big deal about Jeff Beck's playing is, consider this - every note he plays is pitch perfect. Not great. Not excellent. But bone-chillingly perfect. What is so cool about this video, is it shows Jeff Beck trying to give them what they want for THEIR album - not his. He's open to any feedback trying to deliver the goods for a song he didn't write. I doubt he even heard the song before stepping into that studio. Basically, with Bon Jovi's feedback, he beat the solo into submission and gave them what was destined to be on that recording. This is really a great video. If there are any more from these sessions, I would love to see them.
He indeed have perfect pitch by this time if not born with it . I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW HIS EFFECTS WERE SET UP DURING this session..I heard "rat " so I assumed that pedal was still in play . Thank you for posting this
I’ve been playing guitar for almost 40 years, and after watching Jeff’s technique closely here, I can confidently say I’m every bit as good as he is at rolling smokes.
R.I.P Jeff Beck: best slide player without a slide..awsome! Is there a story behind that? Man,that album is Jon Bon Jovi's musical masterpiece...He has never reached that level again
For me, the greatest guitarist of all time...... period. And yes I like my Yngwies and my Vais, Holdsworths and whatever..... but only one rules them all in my book, and that's Jeff...... he's 78 already, I just hope I am able to catch him in concert once more....
I’m with you, I love those guys too, especially Holdsworth. But there’s just something about Jeff. He might not have the technical chops as the other guys but he just oozes pure musical expression.
I always love to hear Jeff's take on a great tune. Inevitably, he somehow improves it. His duet with Stanley Clark and school days is a prime example. Stanley loved it!
This video is amazing! Just shows how cool and talented Mr. Beck is always been. Love the sound, love the takes just pouring down with great solos...to me? I would have been blown away by the first take let alone the second and the........ RIP my beautiful friend and thank you. X
The beautiful seafoam green strat. With a really powerful tone and sustain. This is so cool, just casual in the control room. We love you so much Jeff. Thanks eternally for your incredible music 🎶 and stellar guitar 🎸 playing. Well done mate.🙏 🕉
OMG this is priceless...beautiful....timeless, and just plain one of the coolest things I've seen on youtube . Where has this been hiding for 7 years ??
Sad that we can't get a better quality video on this, especially now that he's gone. I am a tone deaf and his play on the tone just touch my soul to the very core.
How is one player so good and so effortless in such a challenging medium as the electric guitar? Impossibly good, RIP Jeff Beck. I was lucky enough to catch one of his final shows in LA, and it was like a cathedral performance by the Pope for a devoted mass - all there to get dimensionally shifted by otherworldly sounds, which we all did. Left floating on a cloud. There's only been a few guitar players that can leave you in that state of mind and spirit live: Hendrix, Beck, and EVH//SRV tie at 3rd.
Wow so awesome! *EDIT* I left a comment years ago about this being awesome. Time has brought back here & I still get lost in his playing. Just seriously amazing.
Jeff Beck is / was (Rip) on another level. The sound engineer's job is to capture his genius on tape not to give direction to a guitar genius about something he (the engineer) cant play himself.
When Guitarists watch Jeff Beck play, ALL Guitarists, even the very best of the best, their jaws drop and they listen and stare in amazement, knowing that they're in the presence of The One True God!
Great video! Jeff Beck is so spontaneous, so fluid, he just goes through a solo without any difficulty at all, doing his unique style with the tremolo bar. Thanks for uploading this video, will definitely watch again d again. 👍
If I'm not mistaken, Bon Jovi said this was a rental guitar that Beck just tuned up and played. He was in complete awe, and realized he was in the presence of a different kind of human.
4 different solos in a row. Man what a Master guitarist Jeff Beck is. Can you get more videos of the recordings of Jeff's guitar. He played almost all the solos in Young Guns II.
"What he did with his thumb and and his fingers would blow your mind" Bon Jovi on the Master of the craft, the Legend, the GOAT. The squeeling solo at about 4:40 blows my mind. I´ve watched about 50 times already and plan to watch again forever. Just fucking wow. Thanks for uploading
😎👍✝️Rest easy Jeff, we definitely will miss you. Thank you for sharing your talents with this world! Have fun jammimg with Jimi, Moonie, Bonzo, Jaco, Cozy, Peart, etc...
My favourite Jeff Beck era is the late 70s/early 80s BUT the way he refreshed his playing style and image following that period is monumental!! Ditching the pick, replicating the slide using the whammy bar, dedicating himself to using a Pro Co Rat with more filter, signature strat, t-shirt and jeans and loads of guest studio appearances. I loved his fusion stuff but he had to move away from that to enter his next phase of reinvention. He's more than "God".
