The only guitarist I know of who was very literally better at the end of his life than during his early career. Beck never stopped evolving and improving. Absolute creative brilliance. God knows I'm gonna miss him!!
When I was nineteen I had a depressed parrot that would only perk up when I played Jeff Beck. I can still hear that record in my head.Goodbye Jeff I'm glad you are part of my life.
RIP Maestro... JB was a true virtuoso who performed fearlessly and with great passion. He's deserving of all of the accolades and tributes and will be sorely missed.
When I saw Jeff Beck in concert for the first time, he played just like he did here on Letterman, but in person it was a thousand times more mind-blowing. Rest in Peace Jeff🎸
His vitality was something to behold. The guy just never stopped getting better. That is part of what makes today so shocking!! I felt he was going to be making music for another 20 years and was ALWAYS curious as to what he would do next. RIP Maestro. No one can play like you.
@@ObamaFromKenya Barry, I am well aware. Which is what made his vitality the more impressive. He was playing concerts up to very recently that were amazing people at how powerful his playing was...at almost 80!! The way he was always out there left the impression he was going to keep going for a long time yet. There was no other player like him who just kept killing it as long as he did. I wish he would have kept playing until he was 100 and it felt like he just might have. At least to me it did
Luke is great, nice guy too, but even he will tell you Beck was da man and can’t be replaced. Beck was his favorite guitar player, and it’s a terrible loss for guitar players everywhere. The music and the influence will continue to live on, but it’s terrible he’s no longer here.
Brian May is still with us, and still a hell of a player, and he’s feeling the loss too. Funny enough Beck thought Brian was the best, what higher praise could any guitarist get?
Thank you JB for letting Letterdouche know who’s in charge. A LEGEND in so many facets. You will be sorely missed but thank the lord we have so much of your genius recorded for generations to come.
Does Jeff Beck have a music degree or did he ever had any kind of guitar lesson? There is no way that JB plays this great without knowing music theory by heart. His licks, phrases, fills and feel are amazing.
Music theory by means of listening carefully to thousands of slowed-down 45s as a youngster to decipher what the recorded musicians were doing. Theory by having built his own guitar from a cigar box, a broom handle, and some wire - when you get intimate with physical materials, you are working at theory all the time in the background. It helps to be born with perfect pitch and good hearing, along with sizeable hands.
@@billplaney2585it also helps when you play with people like max middleton, jan hammer, tony hymas, jennifer batten, narada michael walden, and stevie wonder. When you surround yourself with other musicians who come from different backgrounds or were schooled you’re gonna learn some stuff and pick up some things. Jeff by no means was a theory guy or a schooled musician, according steve lukather (who produced a scrapped beck album) jeff actually did know his stuff and knew what he was playing
Jeff was seriously from another planet! One of rock musics greatest treasures! 100 years from now he will still be known as one of the greatest most unique guitarist ever! May he rest in peace!
Your music got me through some pretty dark days during college. I’ll always be grateful for that ❤️ Rest in peace legend. Tons of love and prayers from India to the family !
1977 Rick Derringer/Danny Johnson/Kenny Aaronson and a very young Vinnie Appice. Then Jeff Beck w/Jan Hammer/Fernando Saunders, Tony Smith, and Steve Kindler. Then Aerosmith w/Joe Perry, Steven Tyler, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer finished out the night here in Seattle at the now evaporated Kingdome. Then in 1997 I saw Jeff at the 2500-seat Paramount Theater. I broke into tears on my morning walk this morning when I saw the news... Rest in Peace, Jeff. You have had such an impact upon my growth as a complete human being as well as a guitarist. 🌹
Came here to honor Jeff Beck RIP. He played with so many greats. Jennifer Batten the other guitar player was Michael Jackson main gunslinger. Jeff had such a unique style and unique feel. I was so influenced but his playing and tone.
Michael McLoughlin It was on the news tonight: R.I.P. Jeff Beck: from the Yardbirds to collaborating with Donovan on Barabagel. Earlier in your career to the present-you were one of the best & most innovative guitarists ever.
I’ve got that album and seeing that track played live…phenomenal! Everyone there played phenomenally, he had a knack for picking the right people and elevating them too, what humble man. RIP Jeff Beck.
I can hear the roots of many of the great guitarists from the 60's as their music grew through the 70's and later. Beck, however, went off on his own tangent and came up with a sound and a style that was so divergent, if I never knew where he came from, I wouldn't have thought he'd have similar beginnings to the others.
I remember watching this on TV and buying the CD (from a Tower Records) the very next day. In the pre-internet days, TV appearances were a great way to reach fans and inform them you had a new album out…very 20th century.
I have the album, and never get tired of it! But what I get tired of hearing of, is the passing of great musicians. With sad feelings, my condolences goes out to his entire family. 💐RIP Jeff 💐
I've played my Strat and Telecaster in bands for 50 years. Won some awards. Am told I am really good. I'm OK. Jeff Beck is THE MASTER. The sounds he gets out of his axe. His style. His creatvity. Not gimmicks but truly excellent to listen to. Set a high bar for others to look up to. Thank you for sharing this talent My. Beck. I call you the "Bus Driver" because every time I heard you play, you took me to school.
66 as well….I Am Devastated. I was on the road years ago in the business. ….so many phenomenal memories…too many blasted off the planet early back then. I survived. But Jeff….we’re heart broken. So glad I’ve been playing his stuff the last few years all the time. Thanks for listening.
I loved Jeff Beck since I first saw him with The Yardbirds and Jimmy Page on bass in Frtankfurt, November 65-. What a loss his passing is for music. I saw him about 8 times with various bands. The concert he played in Hamburg at the "Grosse Freiheit" with this line-up with Jennifer Batten was the only concert with Jeff, that disapointed me. Too much Guitar-Battle and the band was not reallv tight. But he always came up with new musicians and great music! and I miss him, because his playing for me was what I always loved to listen do. RIP Jeff Beck!
This is my first time ever hearing Jeff Beck. I understand that he passed away recently sad. This performance was outstanding! Found my new rabbit hole to get lost in.
An absolute monster. I envy a close friend who went to see Jeff Beck live and learned who Stevie Ray Vaughan was at the show because they were co-headlining. Jeff Beck is an absolute monster. Also, Jennifer Batton was Michael Jackson’s touring guitarist for three tours. She played EVH’s solo in “Beat It” regularly. Jeff Beck also introduced me to Tal Wilkenfeld on the Crossroads dvd. She’s incredible, too. For me the crazy thing is that Jeff Beck was so continuously original and never sounded like anyone else. I assume he was influenced by his peers, but mostly it seems like he forged his own path every damn time. For instance, the fingerpicked rhythm in this is similar in technique to some of Brian Setzer’s stuff (which Setzer picked up elsewhere and made his own), but not in style, feel, or tone and the added time changes just put it next level. There’s never been a guitarist that he couldn’t hang with. In fact he’s many of my favorite guitarists favorite guitarist.
JB was my first ‘grown up’ musical love, and it is astonishing that he continued to become more inventive, more creative, more skilled, until the end. RIP Jeff- a true rock genius.
Man 4 days later and I'm still having trouble processing the fact that he has died. I just saw him a few weeks ago and he CRUSHED IT. So so good. For me he was one of three guitarists that got me to start to learn the Guitar back when I was a freshman in HS in '75. Now 2 of them are gone. I would listen to Blow by Blow for hours at a time. Feel lucky to have seen him in person a few times. RIP Jeff, say hi to Jimi for me.
He was just doing gigs with johnny depp my friend told me about beck in the 70's soon after got my 1st strat which I still have plus 20 more,he will be missed
