Still blows me away 50 plus years later. The greatest, bar none. Only recently learned that Jeff didn't read music, did everything by touch, tone and feel, which makes me admire him 1000 times more. The consummate musician of our times. RIP JB, I'll be playing your music every day for the rest of my days, and I turn 70 this Friday. Plenty more to come!

What impresses me most about Jeff Beck, and there is no "best" guitarist, is that as great as he was he was always so kind to others and so complimentary to younger musicians while humble. Even Jimi Hendrix used this lick out of respect and admiration for Beck. A truly great musician who was my first more.modern influence as a kid. I've been listening to him for 62 years and never grown tired of his brilliance.

Jeff Beck had been to Detroit at least twice, once with the Yardbirds, missed them at Mt. Holly. Had to play somewhere else that night. Then, he played the Grande Ballroom with this iteration of the Jeff Beck Group. That night had to play at the Palladium in Birmingham, before Johnny Winter. Then, he came back with the Jan Hammer tweedly dee dee act, with Micheal Walden on drums, playing the Masonic, Downtown D-town. All us guitar dweebs down front broke into spontaneous applause when he walked back to his amp to get a slide. Nobody, nobody like Jeff Beck, nobody,,,

@comicblueswithjonygitar36
@comicblueswithjonygitar36 4 года назад
He left Rod and Ron in LA, cancels Woodstock appearance because he actually thought Rod couldn't bring it, and was envious of Robert Plant who Beck saw as 2nd coming of Elvis, he had no faith in this band. Tour was Beckola, this record, and that's where he went off the rails, the 2nd and more tasteful Yardbirds offshoot died, Rod Stewart goes on to be one of most popular artists of all time. Zep had better songs, Peter Grant, the Yardbirds touring apparatus etc. We spent a lot of time as teenage boys arguing the virtue of Beck, our personal favorite, after various incarnations, car accident, some lesser efforts like BBA, you know who ain't Robert Plant? Tim Bogert, that's who, so Beck fell off the trail, took, i picked him up at Wired/Blow by Blow, Sir George Martin helps him mature, abandon lead singers altogether, smaller market AOR jazz fusion, almost killed music. Beck survives, makes great instrumental music, big sales allude him. All the master shredders of the era, lorber, dimeola, holdsworth etc no memorables, Beck is only guy standing with songs we remember. Plynth was the track on Beckola i played the grooves off. I didn't understand music business at all, i practiced and learned the wrong stuff, Carlton!? Worthless, Guns and Roses showed me how wrong i was, i think Beck is our patron saint.

Compare/contrast to LZ’s ‘Moby Dick’. Saw the JB Group w..Rod 2 weeks after LZ’s 1st US tour. Jeff, Jimmy, Eric, Jimi, Peter Green all changed my world. To this day, JB gets more play time - try “Nessun Dorma” without a tear. BB King sought a woman’s voice with his guitar. JB captured it.

An astute observation, whatever else is the case, I reckon Beck’s playing is rather like a human singing. Watch him and he and the instrument are so intimately connected that it’s as if his playing is singing. The truly stunning thing is that he’s the only rock guitarist still innovating; possibly why the likes of Gilmour, Page and Clapton clearly adore him.

@@edfou5 Page was key in creating Beck's Bolero so he was apart of the original sound. Beck went his way with it and Page went his. Page was so important to 60s British music and guitar playing, I find it laughable when people try to say he just copied. He had been playing this shit for years, it just was longer before he got his band together.
