I am baffled to this day how this *wasn’t* a bigger hit in the United Stars. It did receive some airplay on alternative radio stations and MTV in the summer of 1995, but didn’t do well on the Billboard charts.
Song was written about Carla Azar, Jack White`s brilliant drummer. “Last Goodbye” is about Carla Azar, especially that line “Kiss me out of desire not consolation.” Every guy at that time was in love with Carla. She played drums, she was pretty, she was the coolest girl you ever met in your entire life. Carla was the perfect girlfriend, but they were never a couple." 25 Years Of Grace: Christopher Dowd On His Friend Jeff Buckley.
👏👏👏👏👏 yes! Anytime I see someone reacting to Jeff Buckley, I click! He was an angel on earth - music incarnate. If Page and Plant drool over you, you got it. RIP ❤
This and Lover you should have come over were my introductions to Jeff. Went on to love all of it and feel sad to this day when I hear him and know he is gone.
Love this song. And it appears in one of my favorite movies: Vanilla Sky. I highly recommend the studio version, which has a much fuller sound than this live version. Unfortunately, the sound engineer was lacking here.
Jeff does something to my soul. Everytime. You should react to Jeff Buckley- Dream Brother live in Chicago. The whole set is an example of one of his better live performances. You can't go wrong though. Great reaction.
This song was played constantly on Australian radio back in the day. Mostly on the government-funded 'youth' station TripleJ. To this day whenever JJJ does one of their 100 Greatest Songs Ever' this is guaranteed to be in the top five.
If there was a hit off this record, it was definitely this song. It was the song that got radio play on the alternative stations that were just sprouting up at the time.
However good Jeff was, his band must have é. The tightest in the business too. A holistic delight. Not actually seen this live version before, it made me so happy I nearly cried. You two are adorable btw.
Please please do something off the album Greetings from L.A- this is by Jeff Buckley’s dad, Tim Buckley, Sweet Surrender is mesmerising and a real classic, you will see where Jeff got his talent
