Jeff was the embodiment of what an artist should be. Fearless, passionate, soulful, creative, sensitive, intelligent and immensely talented. One of my all time favorites singers and songwriters.
He is a lot of people’s favorite and he didn’t get a chance to write nearly enough song he’s other worldly. If there’s an after life I hope he’s singing when I get there:)
Jeff Buckley's Grace is one of the finest albums. Ever. His voice is a transportation device. Within seconds, you're THERE. Relating, and feeling KNOWN. Beautiful.
Grace is fantastic, but I think the live setting is where Jeff truly shined. Live at Sine-e is amazing. Just Jeff, his electric guitar, and his vocal chords and it's UNBELIEVABLE. It's really hard to believe someone could sing like that LIVE. Mystery White Boy is also a fanstastic album that has songs from a handful of live shows during one of his tours (this time with a band). I love Grace, but I honestly don't know if I ever listened to it again after hearing a live version of every one of the songs on it. No reason to.
That whole verse, beginning with “it’s never over” is amazing writing. Poetry put into melody. One of my favorite songs of not only Jeff Buckley’s, but of all time and those lyrics really drive it home. This song is a masterpiece.
I get so happy when someone discovers Jeff Buckley for the first time. This is always on my playlist rotation. Jeff was influenced by Zeppelin and they were big fans of his music. He was gone too soon but the music he left behind is ours to keep.
Diane Davies his legacy is both ours to keep, and ours to share. The divinity of such love and loss seems at times utterly unfair, so sadly laced with an uncertainty rooted in passionate despair. From a sentiment so woeful to fill the hearts of the world so full of loving and longing so hopefully strong it may draw lonely souls back to rewrite all their wrongs. With the voice of an angel apparent behind the blackened hair, opened up with soulful regress for separated souls to reunite and heartbreak repair.
Jeff Buckley is a shooting star. We will never know how much he would have affected us music lovers. He was otherworldly. This is his most passionate song. He has so many other great ones without any length of a career. He’s one of the greatest and it still breaks my heart. Mojo Pin Grace Everybody Here Wants you The Sky is a Landfill Dream Brother
He's from Orange County CA, never really knew his father Tim Buckley who was a pretty damn great artist himself. But the son exceeded him, then died. We just got a glimpse of what Jeff could have been, he could have been the biggest music star in the world.
Yes, exactly. It’s tragic. With the little he did release he left a giant impact on a generation of musicians after him. He redefined rock music and shaped a slew of subsequent bands and artists. He lived in New York during the formative part of his career and I believe spent some time in New Orleans too. The last year of his life he lived in Memphis.
He died May 29, 1997 in a drowning accident in Memphis. The Mississippi I think. Get his album titled 'Grace'. It is beautiful. Thanks for listening! Your friend Kristine
@@dimitrissrv3453 Jeff's debut record was better than any record his father ever did, so if you extrapolate out it's no contest. His father was good, but he was great.
This is my favorite song by Jeff. But, you need to listen to Eveybody here wants you - it’s like the romantic Jeff vibe. The Jeff with swag. Absolutely beautiful! And imagine the vocals- just listen .. and make sure you get the reaction! ❤
@Luke Dalton Yes, it has a Zeppelin/Hendrix vibe. It’s incredible. That’s the only time he ever played that song live. The band was also just a three piece, at the time.
Everyone talks about his version of hallelujah, (and rightfully so, it's probably the best version that exists,) but so many of his own songs are brilliantly hauntingly beautiful. RIP Jeff. 🖤
Yeah. listen to the entire album, Grace, and you will see. This is one of my faves from that album. Notice how , in many songs, he goes from a calm mood to this amazing crescendo. Wow!
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Jeff Buckley live, many years ago. As deep and soulful as his lyrics were, he was also funny as hell, absolutely charming with the voice of an angel. Jeff Buckley is a tear that hangs inside my soul. May he rest in peace.💜
Mojo Pin, Everybody Here Wants You, Last Goodbye, Hallelujah. You can't go wrong with Jeff Buckley. Another amazing talent gone far too soon, heartbreaking. Still listen to his album Grace often.
Thank you. I thought it was just me being weird or something. It's Christmas and I'm here just withmy18 yr old that could care less what day it is sleeping. No family close by, most h a ve passed anyway. Long story short I NEEDED TO CRY! 😢
Voidwraith Prime wow. I'm 62 and I don't how come I haven't heard him before. They must not have played him on the radio in any cities where I have lived. Maybe when I hear more from him I will recognize something after all.
Jamal.... Jeff Buckley was incredible and a HUGE influence on me as a young adult in the 90s. I was a member of his fan club and everything! Thank you for reacting to his music. I would also suggest "Eternal Life" " Hallelujah" and "Grace". Gone too soon.
@@stefaniebrauer128 I remember where I was (sitting on the floor in my living room and MTV News came on) when I found out he died. I was barely a teenager and I cried because I loved his voice and I thought about what we were gonna miss out on in his future songs and albums. As I'm older now I realize what a gift we received. A short life but a truly meaningful experience to listen to his art and still love it for so long.
Col Grey I just watched it for the first time after your comment. NO WORDS. Just AMAZING. Thank you so much for turning me on to this performance. Losing him and Chris Cornell.... still devastated.
@@stefaniebrauer128 you're welcome. Soundgarden is my favorite band. I actually discovered Jeff a few years after he died maybe around 2000 from a Chris Cornell interview. And yeah losing Chris hurt a lot and still does.
Check out his Mystery White Boy album if you haven't yet. It's a collection of songs from a few shows during his 95-96 tour. I think his live stuff is better than anything he recorded in the studio.
With the tragic circumstances that surrounded his death and the ethereal beauty of his emotive voice, it’s impossible to listen to his music without tearing up. One of the great “what could’ve been”s in modern music history.
His dad Tim Buckley was a folk singer who also died before his time in the early 70's. His voice and writing skills are comparable to Jeffs. Thanks for reacting to one of my favourite singers. keep up the great reactions.
That’s my favorite Jeff Buckley song. His passion is scary. I sometimes wonder if the lady he was singing about heard this and thought to herself, “this boy is scaring me.” Now, go check out his daddy, Tim. You’ll find out where he got his voice.
My favorite Jeff Buckley line was from his song "Vancouver" ----------- "I am your failed husband contender. I'm your loan shark of bliss" But if you really really want to hear what his voice was capable of, check out "Corpus Christi Carol", from his Grace LP. Angelic doesn't do it justice
He kept stopping early on and reacting and I kept thinking....just you wait...lol. just when you think it can't get any better, it does. The magic of Jeff.
Since I first got this album in 1994, this has been my favorite album of all time. Jeff can sing his ass off. He has a small but tasty catalog. Unfortunately, he drowned in the Wolfe River on the way to the studio to record the follow up. I recommend almost everything. But "Grace" should be next. Jeff plays all the guitars, the harmonium and all the vocals. There is a note he hits in the backing vocal that sends chills down my spine every time. This also is a favorite song by anyone. Great live as well. Very improvisational. As a compliment to his talent, he was nominated for a Grammy for Best Male Vocal Performance for Everybody Here Wants You, a studio DEMO.
Very seldom can I listen to anything by Jeff Buckley without tearing up. He might be in Heaven now but he brought a small glimpse of heaven to us during his short stay. Anyone who has the gift to hear his music has been blessed
Jeff Buckley was an old soul. He died by drowning in a tributary of the Mississippi River by swimming into it one night. I wish we could have heard more from him. The music he left in his short time here is pure magic.
Been listening to Jeff for many years now. Tracked down everything I could find on the guy. Read as much as I could. Not ashamed to say he struck me in a wholly different way than anyone else ever did. He made me realize what was possible in regards to artistry, and that one shouldn't limit one self from exploring your feelings in the context of music and it's boundless opportunities. He was so varied in his expression, but you could never ever take away the angelic presence of his voice; his lyrics - or hell, even the covers he did - combined with his flawless phrasing, which somehow held a great lot of desperation in its tone, it was always astounding to me - ephemeral even. But the deeper I went into exploring his legacy, and trying to piece together his character, the more I lost this perception of him as being something inhuman, and I realized he must've been quite the opposite: he was as human as they come. The notion of love and relationship, be it friendly, romantically or of course in terms of family, it was woven into his creative expression. I think he was just as you would imagine him: a flurry of emotions, but one that were hosted by a man who could communicate it SO fantastically well. Honestly, I don't think he was a happy guy, or at least burdened to some degree, but at the same time - and without trying to glorify misery - I think it gave a lot to his world view. He would always come across as this mellow and silly character in interviews, but to my knowledge he had a lot of anger. The more you realize he is in fact just a young man, the more you appreciate the dismantling of his heavenly persona and instead realize how amazing humans can be if they just worry about their craft!
This song gives me goosebumps every single time, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. For real, Jeff was one of the most talented and truthful musicians out there, so raw, so.... real. Oh, that was so reeeeeeal! I'm so happy you finally got here, this man is a blessing and will always be missed but he will stay forever. Now do Grace, please.
Jeff is grace. I was buying this album when it release in the 90's, it shocked me (i was a metalhead at this time). Maybe my favourite 90's album, period.
This version from his live in Chicago concert is the best. When he Adlibs and sings "I didnt see you before but I see you now" brings tears to my eyes nearly every time.
Jeff is from California.. then the obscure music scene in NYC... then finally, a little shotgun house in Memphis, where he let the grass in his yard grow tall so he could lie down in it and look at the stars.
This is probably my favourite song in Buckley's amazing catalog. It has brought me to tears more than once. The man had such a way with words and the voice to carry it all.
This song got me through one of the hardest times in my life. Late 90’s. “Maybe I’m too young to keep good love from going wrong” that line summed up a ten yr relationship. I’ll always love you Bonnie.
Jeff Buckley was simply on another level. Vocalist, songwriter, guitarist. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in one person. And dead from drowning accidentally in the wake of a passing ship on the Mississippi during the recording of his second album in Memphis in 1997 at the age of 30.
You can hear how much Jeff is screaming for his love. He goes love, love, love, love, love.......love, love, love, love, love, .......love, love, love ah, ah lover cause it's not to late but realistically it is. It's cool people are discovering Jeff 23 after his death!
Corpus Christi Carol, Nightmares By The Sea, Grace, Lilac Wine ARE ALL BOPS! JEFF BUCKLEY IS POPPIN !! Great video! Love seeing your reactions and hearing what you have to say!
OHHHHHH!! yes yes yes PLEASE do more Jeff Buckley.... i KNOW you will love his music, *all* of his music is him pouring out his whole soul. and he is one of those rare musicians that are often *better live* than album versions. 'Mojo Pin' live in Chicago is a must! 'Grace', 'Eternal Life', 'Halleluyah', 'Opened Once', on and on... truly Angelic voice, the ability to make you feel what he is feeling, i could go on forever about him...
Jamal, I want to second the other's requests for Jeff's version of "Hallelujah". It is a soul-touching experience for me. Also, Jeff's dad Tim Buckley has a song you should check out called "Once I Was". Tim was taken from us too soon and Jeff followed in his footsteps. Both were amazing artists who expressed our emotions though their songs; even ones we didn't know we had or needed to get out.
