This is probably the best choreographed men's long program of the decade - David Wilson is a genius. Jeffrey Buttle's performance and interpretation is just so spot on. And to skate with music that is more about emotion & rhythm than is stereotypically lyrical, this performance is that much more brilliant.
Jeffrey is continuing (as of 2017) to skate, with even more artistry (much like Daisuke Takahashi and Stephane Lambiel) in the top ice shows; plus, he is fast becoming one of the best choreographers (for both singles skaters and ice-dancers) in the world (he's considered right now in the top three "go to" choreographers because he knows how to skate to all kinds of music, how to listen to one's music, and works with both youngsters (like Vincent Zhou -- his fantastic new 2017-18 LP to mostly music by "Moulin Rouge") and established adult skaters. Over the years, he has improved his awesome musicality, his deep edges and knees, and transitions (no long run-ups to jumps, etc.), and almost every time I see a program nowadays that I really like (that is unique and beautifully choreographed), it turns out that one-third of the times it has been created by Jeffrey Buttle (he also has the personality to work really well with diverse skaters, knowing how to listen, and seeing exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are so that he can develop a superb program with them).
To have essentially been counted out this season and then come back and skate such a breathtakingly flawless programme - not to mention an excellent short programme - is just beyond fantastic. Thanks so much for the CBC version!
What I like so much about this young man is the soft,gentle quality of his jump landings. He almost seems to skating in his slippers, so quietly does he land his jumps. His spins and footwork are just first rate. I think it would be nice for a Canadian man to finally get Olympic gold - enjoyed so many great male Canadian skaters over the year - love to see a gold medal around a Canadian guy's neck. And, so typical of Canadian competitors, Buttle was pure class all the way.

At these Worlds, defending champion, Joubert with quads in both his programs lost to Jeffrey Buttle who skated two flawless programs with no quads and yet, no one lost their minds over it. When the exact same situation happened two years later at the 2010 Olympics where Evan Lysacek skated two flawless programs with no quad and defeated Olympic champion, Plushenko with quads, some people had a fit about it. Back then, mathematically you could defeat another skater with just one quad in each program even if you didn't have one. That's not possible now that they're doing 5-6 quads in a LP, but back then it was very doable, and both Buttle and Lysacek deserved their rightful golds.
Passion to Skate looks like a good CD but a new CD must be created to include memorable pieces like Kwan's Lyra Angelica and East of Eden, Cohen's Romeo and Juliet, Arakawa's Turandot just to name a few.
Tracy Wilson & Kurt Browning. I'm not sure of the name of the guy who is the main host for CBC's coverage, though he's a regular broadcaster as opposed to a former top level skater.
@@srpdirectortm8462 wasn't Chris cuthbert though. There were 2 scotts on the old cbc sport roster - scott oake was one (not the one here) and this was the other scott whose last name I can't recall
