@@SalvoG "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "As the Years Go Passing By - Germany 1995" , and "Look at Little Sister w/ SRV" are songs/videos you've got to react to. Would love to see your reaction to those too. Jeff was in the movie "Road House" with Patrick Swayze which is a great movie to watch!! Jeff was very underappreciated, in my opinion. He's a Legend and one of the best guitarist in the world!! He was also an Incredible Jazz Man (Jeff Healey and The Jazz Wizards), he played trumpet too!! We lost him way too soon! Hope you dive into his catalog. He was Amazing! RIP Jeff.
I met Jeff in high school, at a national jazz festival in Hamilton Ontario. We connected several more times on the road throughout Canada and the US while touring. He was a great guy. great guitarist, great singer, great at the trumpet, fabulous singer and songwriter and a jazz historian to boot. Everyone who loves music should know Jeff. He had and was a gift. We miss him.
Loved Jeff Healy and my partner demanded his song “Angel Eyes” be the first dance at our wedding. Once I heard it I agreed and every time we hear it we have to stop and dance around to it. Jeff passed away way too soon. Loved him in the movie Road House. He had immense talent and he did a song with Steve Ray Vaughn called “See Little Sister”. He held his own against SRV and it was awesome.
Pure greatness. Healey was a beast and this is my fav performance of his. And Dr. John, Marcus Miller, and Omar Hakim backing him up? Legendary lineup right there. I enjoy your channel and your reactions. Keep up the good work. 👍
thanks for mentioning marcus miller( one of the greatest bass players ever) and omar hakim( madonna, sting, weather report, chic etc, amazing drummer. dr john- right place wrong time. who was that on sax announcing the band- tom scott or david sanborn?
So glad you reacted to Jeff Healey. I’ve been waiting for this. What an amazing talent he was. He played other instruments as well. Dr. John was killer on the piano & the whole band was phenomenal. RIP Jeff & Dr. John.
SRV discovered Jeff Healey when he was in Canada. (The El Macombo is a well known Club in Canada.) Stevie invited Jeff on stage at a venue. Check out 2 greats SRV and Jeff Healy together doing Look at Little Sister. It is so great! Jeff Healey was one of the musicians in town when SRV crashed that night!
His duet with Stevie Ray Vaughn is prolly a must see/hear next as you already know SRV from previous reactions. Um, three words, it is killer. (I think the song they do together is SRV's Look At Little Sister). ☺️🎶🎵🤘
Yeah, Jeff Healey was really incredible and sadly seems to be largely forgotten about these days. I bought his first album when it came out and was blown away by it. He was very much in the vein of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix (thus the playing with his teeth). An incredibly exciting guitarist and someone who I wish people would take more notice of.
Great, GREAT reaction Salvo!! You can pick your jaw up off the floor now... This would be a virtuosic performance for a sighted person, let alone a blind guy! My wife and I have seen him live about 25 years ago, just about an hour outside his hometown of Toronto, and it was one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen!! He did a cover of Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream, and it brought the house down! His version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps by The Beatles is also amazing. His entire See The Light album is fire. Angeleyes is a beautiful ballad. RIP Jeff. Hope you're rocking out with all the guitar legends in heaven!!
I know. You feel different now don't you? I had to ask myself one question. Have I ever really applied myself in my life? He was amazing and he has missed. Love your show
Jeff Healy could play notes no other guitarist could due to the size of his hands and the length of his fingers, such a great loss to the world of music RIP Jeff you are a LEGEND....
Mid/late '80s, Victoria BC, early evening on a warm summer Thursday: Me and some of the boys headed out to a local meat market / pick up bar that usually had a DJ. (🤭 Hey, I was young, well, late 20s, and there would likely be pretty girls there! 😂). When we arrived, we were perplexed to discover there was a lineup to get in, with posters advertising a live performer (not usual) debuting that night, with praises by the likes of B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. So, what the hell, we waited in line. Once we got in we sat at a table right by the dance floor, about 15 feet from a two foot raised stage. After ordering our beer, the band came out, obviously guiding a blind guy. My buddies and I kinda looked at each other quizzically. 🤔 They sat him down in a chair onstage, handed him an electric guitar, which he placed on his lap 😯 ... then, when they started to play ... my world changed ... forever. It was Jeff Healey and his band, before their first album came out: I had never heard of him/them before, but he, specifically, had my attention now. He proceeded to play the cleanest, most amazing, unbelievable guitar licks I'd ever heard. He played blues, he played rock, he played country, he even played a bit of what sounded like flamenco. He played Hendrix better than Hendrix, he played with his teeth, he played while literally jumping around blind like a mad man. He seemed to be having a religious experience onstage. Despite it being a dance club, NOBODY danced that night. Every person, patrons and staff alike, stood around, hypnotized, with their mouths agape, staring, hardly believing what they were seeing and hearing. I went back Friday and Saturday, and again three nights the following week, as they were playing a two week gig there. Their first album came out shortly thereafter, and then he was in a movie with Patrick Swayze, and then ... well, I sadly never got to see Jeff Healey perform live again. But I still feel blessed, and I shall never forget how amazing the experience was that first night I saw him play! 😊
Jeff Healy is just a guitar legend. This performance always brings tears to my eyes for some reason. .AND HOW ABOUT THAT BASS PLAYER..... wow....Thanks for doing this one. "Angel Eyes" is one of my favorite songs ever. I hope you'll do that one.
Love it! Jeff was so uniquely talented! This whole CD is excellent and Angel Eyes one of my favorite all time ballads. Definitely check out the studio version! BTW having All Stars Marcus Miller and Dr John in this performance is legendary too!
Jeff was Sonic Fire when he was blowin' like a Cat 5 Hurricane chasing after a Runaway Train. The great Night Tripper Doctor John was killing it on the piano too. Excellent performances.- from everyone. Your commentary was dead on.
I was fortunate to watch Jeff play a few times in his parents garage when we were both teenagers in Etobicoke ontario...he was not just a a fantastic musician but a fantastic person...saw him live a few times after he got big and he always remembered me and invited me back stage...greatly missed and a Canadian icon...most underappreciated talent in my era
I had the pleasure of watching Jeff's band live opening up for Tom Cochrane & Red Rider at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in the late 80's and he blew the crowd away. Such an amazing talent that was taken from us too soon by the same disease that took his vision when he was an infant. It's really incredible that his disability didn't stop him from pursuing his dreams and passions.
The bredth of amazing musical talent we used to have, like Jeff with Dr John on Piano, and so many more greats from the 1920's up to the early naughties and now we have autotune and TV talent show winners, what went wrong.
After listening to something like that, there is nothing left to say. Mouth agape and speechless and I say this as a singer/guitar player/song writer... RIP Jeff Healy. SRV said that his favorite person to jam with out of everyone was Jeff Healy. He said (and I'm paraphrasing here) he felt like he didn't have to compete with or try to impress Jeff. He said they just jammed. No ego just kickass blues... RIP to two of the very best singer/guitar players to ever sing a note or pick up a guitar...
Saw him live at a local high school auditorium in Eugene Oregon. Holy crap. Yeah, I almost crapped my pants. Maybe three to four hundred people there. He just killed it. His second guitarist...I'm sorry, can't remember his name, but he went on to do stuff with other folks, but with Healey, he was awesome, and Jeff gave him a lot of room to shine. Think Jeff was one of the good ones. Very generous, and very humble. Wish I could have talked to him. Dang, when he passed, I just felt a hole in the rock world. RIP Jeff. And thanks man for doing this for him. Oh, after looking, and this is an edit...his other guitar player at the show I saw was Phil Sayce...yeah, great show at a high school. This is where all great artists go...no matter the venue...no matter how many folks are there, you play and sing your ass off. They're here to see you and they paid for that privilege.
So glad you've discovered Jeff Healey!! He is absolutely outstanding! I was fortunate enough to see him play a number of times, but I have never been able to figure out how he stands up and continues to wail away on his guitar without using a guitar strap! He's like a man from another planet. You should also check out the video of Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan performing "Look at Little Sister." Jeff was younger in that video but amazingly, he went toe-to-toe with Stevie. Also for Jeff Healey Fans - good news, they are working on a film about his life that should be out in 2024. Can hardly wait!
I hesitated to click on this because I'm more classic rock than blues rock, but I'm glad I did. That was impressive. At the end he was just showing off. 😁
Jeff does a duet with Stevie Ray Vaughan that is excellent.. I don't recall the name of the song at the moment but you should definitely check it out. Jeff also acted in the movie Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze. Us Canadians are immensely proud of him. :)
One of my favorites is "Feel Better", and from what I can tell, it has only been reacted to once . Killer song, and a heavier sound. I recommend everyone check it out. 😎
Jeff Healey was SO amazing! I was lucky enough to see him in concert twice, and I listen to his See the Light album often. Such a huge talent gone way too soon.
I’m still waiting for you to watch dire straits sultans of swing alchemy live I think you’ll love it. Jeff healey a truly brilliant artist I first saw him in roadhouse and had to look him up.
You found the treasure that is Jeff Healey. A man with no sight that can play like that…incredible. Angel Eyes is an amazing song you should check out, big hit in the 80’s.
Ahhh, finally did the Jeff Healey reaction. Hope you liked it and do more. There’s a song on yt that very few reactors have done and it’s a great song that really shows off more of his greatness. With 3 separate guitar solos, a trick, and the only song I know of where he used a double neck guitar, the Bob Dylan ‘When the Night Comes Falling’ is must see Healey. My personal favourite musician ever. What a talent.
Yeah saw Jeff in the early nineties in Manchester (UK) and he tore the roof off. Hendrix would have been blown away by Jeff, he also played a Les Paul this way..no strap.
If you want to double up on guitar gods, while in Canada, Stevie Ray Vaughn invited Healey to play a song with him at one of his shows. They perform Look At Little Sister: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2HmLFyvFxTc.html Here's a weird story for you. Patrick Swayze was set to star in the movie Roadhouse (1989) with Sam Elliott, Ben Gazzara and Kelly Lynch. The movie producer sent a copy of the script to a music producer he had previously worked with asking if he'd be interested in producing the soundtrack. The singer/guitarist of the Roadhouse house band was described as blind and plays the guitar flat on his lap. He called the movie producer and agreed to do the soundtrack and said he had the perfect house band for the movie. It just happened the music producer was working on Healey's first album at the time. But it goes further. The movie was based on a book and the author wrote the novel while living in Toronto. He had seen Healey performing at a local blues club and thought that would make a really cool character in the book he was writing. So Healey ended up playing a character in the movie that was actually based on him. Luck or fate it's string of events that all came together for Healey. Here's a link to the official music video from the movie performing Roadhouse Blues if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hyflyJjJrf4.html
Agree with edallen, but do SRV's solo version of the song first. Won't ruin the surprise SRV discovered Jeff at a club in Canada and introduced him to the states. 😂😂😂😂😂 he tried playing the guitar normally but was more comfortable with this way.
The Hubs and I went and saw Jeff play here in the city in Harpo's nightclub back in '94. It got pretty crazy and he was on the stage floor on his back playing that guitar at one point. One of the greatest...okay, the greatest performance I'd ever seen!
