His little intro sounds a lot like how my family gardened as I was growing up. Lots of organic practices, but that rototiller every spring and fall, and miracle gro in the watering can.
I've been re-listening to teaming with microbes and teaming with nutrients multiple times, then I find myself jumping from chapter to chapter as the different topics pop into my mind and I need a refresher. I'm going to get the teaming with fungi book since there is no audio book. They are absolutely worth the money
Great informational video. We have been gardening no till for several years now and in my mind it is the only way to garden or farm. I am going to have to order a micro bio meter. Thanks for sharing.
I would be SUPER interested in finding out how accurate that test is. I think it would be worth getting a few folks who do microscopy to correlate results.
While I can appreciate the attention to natural chemical processes, I think it's a big mistake to think too much about N and bacteria in islolation. After 20 years of heavy manure/N-bacterial farming in the Andes, we ended up shifting to no-till precisely as a result of an appreciation to limit and control bacteria and to favor the accumulation of stable sources of carbon for feeding fungi, in particular white fungi -- as Jeff mentions, somewhat out of context, that are central to building soil structure as well as expanding the plant rhizosphere. Some studies show that white fungi can expand the 'feeding' intensity of a plant by some 2,500 times. With healthy and diverse soil fungi populations, we essentially no longer need to add nutrients to our soil. We found that are previous heavy applications of manure and N-rich compost was counterproductive in favoring the bacteria that suppressed soil fungi. To give you an idea, we abandoned the endless incorporation of 30:1 N-carbon ratio to surface applications of woody compost of about 400:1.
hi i like your post, im new to gardening , i am confused by the last part of your post, are you saying your using a woody compost(wood chips?) instead of manure? thanks
@@TheMississauga333 In our case, we are farming cemented ash subsoil of highly degraded, Andisols (in Kichwa, called cangahua, which is essentially rock), so renewing food sources and native microbial populations is a priority. Actually, we do not use woodchips in our beds or pathways (too high in lignan). Instead, we use shredded bark sourced from a local plywood factory, which initially is higher in N. This permits an initial bloom of bacteria, followed by a succession of fungal development. We regularly apply inoculants from a series of Johnson-Su bioreactors. For me, the key is leaving the soil covered, live roots, and limiting soil disturbance. Gilles Lemieux at Lavalle University precipitated the logic for this approach. Look up Ramial Chipped Wood (RCW). I hope that helps. Good luck!
HOW ? CAN WE ??? AS HUMANS KEEP AND INCREASE OUR ( HUMAN ) electrical charge ???? REALLY, PLEASE just trying to communicate and learn more about OUR HUMAN LIFE BATTERY ??? ANYONE ? EYES MIND HEART AND SOUL WIDE OPEN NO FEAR.....
Understanding the differences between an empty stomach and hunger is viable i feel. The days i eat a decent meal midday i feel lethargic. Conscious eating as well all food is good just need to disquinsh between eating to feed the soul (already in a happy state before eating) and eating to then become happy by filling the void
