just because someone is a stoner doesnt make them an idiot .. look at when Mr Hand comes to Spicoli's house.. Spicoli learns and understands everything Mr Hand teaches him .. he's not stupid .. he just doesnt care about the things he cant change or affect and cares about living simply .. like he said "choice waves and a cool buzz" he would be just as happy living in a mansion or in a RV van parked on the beach ... seriously bro realizes that mo money mo problems .. so he lives simply and is happy with that and not playing the rat race game of keeping up with everyone else .. he is the smartest character in the entire movie ... *edit* i am on drugs while wrote this .. smoking weed and on some valiums ... so the fact that i am "stoned" and have more insight into the character known as Spicoli than you shows that ... just because you are a stoner doesnt mean you are an idiot..
This was thee movie to see when a teenager in the 80s. Man, we knew every line. What a classic, im 55 now and could still talk about some of those scenes
@@asmuklerYes!! Actually that was my favorite Sean Penn scene in the movie. My all time favorite scene however is when Brad flipped out on the angry customer at All American Burger and says, “Mister if you don’t SHUT UP, I’m gonna kick 100 percent of YOUR ASS!!!”
the character mr hand was teacher of the decade...mr hand took time out his personal time to make sure a student would pass his class...mr hand does not get enough credit for this....
Oddly teachers used to be much more like this. Yes , I have often heard of them showing up randomly at students houses for a variety of reasons. One of them to make sure lagging students catch up . We are so disconnected today . Now they charge you for that and call it tutoring.
You all left his best scene when Mr. Hand came to his house to study on Spicoli's time. The look on Spicoli's face when Mr. Hand pulled an extra school book. hilarious
76' Here with the only difference Spicoli didn't smoke as much as we did. We used to get high on the way to school just to decide if we wanted to get high. The High School I attended seemed to be oblivious to everyone smoking in the courtyard...They just wanted it outside to protect the bathrooms.
@@davejohn255 81' Here. Man are you RIGHT. Back then, students at my H.S. were ALLOWED to smoke cigarettes but only outside on the courtyard! Yeah, we were smoking cigarettes alright...lol Half the school was high as hell after lunch! There was no thuggery, no guns, no killings. Maybe a few scores were settled after school but most of us were cool as hell. Good times!
Don't forget this movie produced 3 future Oscar Winners all for Best Actors. Nicholas Cage for Leaving Las Vegas 1995, Sean Penn Mystic River 2003, & Milk 2008, and Forrest Whitaker The Last King of Scotland 2006.
@@finddeniro I know, I'm just saying he was ahead of his time, because teenagers these days sometimes order a pizza during school time, and I think I saw someone call for one
In the commentary for the DVD (what's a DVD, grandma?), Cameron Crowe said that it wasn't Spicoli who ordered the pizza, it was Rat. But the moviemakers changed it because it worked better for Spicoli's character in the film.
Camron Crowe did a fantastic job researching this with real-life students in a California high school for his book, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, which was made into the movie. The characters in the book were based on actual students that Crowe met at Clairemont High School in San Diego. He talked to the Principal to get permission for his adventure and went undercover for a year. Crowe was an adult at the time but he looked much younger and was able to pass as a student. On a personal note, this was exactly how it was for me at my high school all the way across the country in the small town of Owensboro, KY. My brother was caught smoking pot at school, I was Jennifer Jason Leigh's character, experimenting with the adult world. No, we didn't have an ocean close by but we had skateboards, and bicycles as transportation until we got a car. Kids have it harder in school now than they did back then. Good Times, fast times!
mr hand should have been teacher of the year.....mr hand takes time from his personal life to go to a student's house and teach the student so the student can pass the class....not many teachers will do that....
Classic movie. I have several ties to. Had 11th grade history with Sean at Santa Monica H S 1977. The mall where some characters worked i worked there as well managing Vinces pet store just a few doots to tje right of the movie theater where Mark Ratner worked which was the Sherman Oaks Galleria mall of hollywood celebs. In high school, Sean was a straight A clean cut kid from Malibu and played on the tennis team. We both surfed, but i dont recall ever seeing him in the water. His younger brother, another great actor, died decades ago.
Did you know my wife then Sandra Rosenfeld she went to Samohi and Malibu Park Jr High where Penn was class President or something like that. She went to school with many children who followed their show biz parents in to that field.
Sean Penn has two Oscars -- back in the day, would you have believed someone who predicted that someday, the actor playing Spicoli will have two Oscars for Best Actor?
My art teacher always let us go across the street to get food if you offered to get him something. A lot of the time, when whoever was going to wherever would just ask everyone before class what they wanted and called in the order for the whole class. I am a terrible artist, but I loved my art classes the most! When I was a sophomore, I got to take the hottest senior girl to her prom because I sat next to her in art class. When I was a senior, I again got to go to prom with the hottest girl in my class because we sat next to each other in class, and we started dating. I always thought people who said their high school days were the best time in their life were idiots, but they really were some of the best times in your life!
I remember renting Fast Times when it was on VHS the nude pool seen on the tape was stretched out you could not even watch it lol. Best movie ever good memories.
I have the image of Phoebe Cates burned inside my brain that is triggered by the Cars Moving In Stereo. I saw this movie when I was 18, I’m 60 as of this posting.
Did the same to True Lies vhs. The VCR made crying wails as it proceeded to play the scene in the hotel. Tracking feature couldnt do anything to help. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My favorite was: Relax, my dads a TV repairman. He has an ultimate set of tools.. I can fix it. Oh, and when Phoebe Cates getting out of the pool on slo-mo... But that's just me.. This has to be a top 10 movie of all time
I can't remember how many times I watched this movie in the 80s. So happy I grew up during that time. Nowadays movies and books like that are being censored or called "woke." Not trying to make this political, but let's be real. The 80s was a damn good decade!
Are you off your meds or going senile? You're the one inserting your culture war bullshit into the comments section of a fucking 80's stoner comedy, Get a grip.
I was stoner and a surfer when I was younger… now I’m just an old surfer… still haven’t grown up… my wife is blessed with two children, our daughter and me 🏄🏼♂️🎣🏋🏼🏖️
For all he did in other roles - I've always thought this was his best. Spicoli is just hilarious - and - so true. Sean Penn talks about his inspiration for Jeff ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qfrLJzewZ1g.html .
