Had an amazing sense of balance when moving through traffic, bumping off players and going through tackles, one of the best wingers / fullbacks to ever play the game
Great post. Goldie was the greatest. What skill! That chip and chase against Auckland at the 'brook takes the cake though. That was in a lot of traffic and he made it look easy. Everything had to be perfect for that try to be scored. If he chips it a foot wider either side or a foot shorter or longer i don't think he would've pulled it off. What class. I could go on and on...Fantastic crowds at the matches too. Oh what sweet memories.
What a player. I remember him play for NZ as a youngster v my Scotland in Edinburgh...and knew he'd be a legend. The ABs are truly blessed to progress from JK to him. In global rugby terms, he seems quite underrated in history.
0:47 Pushing off Inga The Winger? Few players in the world did *that*. Always a pleasure to watch him play. He just got better and better and retired at the very top of his game. Great memories.
A very good player, he had alot of class with the chip & chase to score tries. Also represented Otago & the Black Caps for cricket, but chose to stay with rugby union. Cheerz Goldie for all the good memories bro👍
Watching this video and 'Andy Ellis - Tries from 1991 - 1995' you can see a lot of this team of that era in the Highlanders today under Jamie Joseph. Glad Joseph brought back some vintage Otago rugby from the era he played in.
NZ Rugby crowds used to be amazing. When the NPC was still the biggest comp in NZ Rugby & when Rugby itself still had a romantic attachment to the NZ public. Sad that we'll never get that back.
I would have loved to see him run like this for the ABs. From memory he had a great kick and chase when playing for the national side, but that was pretty much it.
