Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RU-vid, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RU-vid. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RU-vid, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

Written by David Crosby and Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills & Nash and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane on Crosby's boat off the coast of Florida. CSN recorded it first and then Jefferson Airplane. I like both versions and what is most intriguing to me is the comparative guitar work of Stephen Stills and Jorma Kaukonen, both iconic rock guitarists. And Grace Slick is one the greatest rock vocalists who ever lived!

Grace's voice is otherworldly. Supernaturally beautiful. powerful, and haunting.Like no one else out there then or since then. And this version needs to be heard by everyone!

Jorma Kaukoma is one of the most over-looked guitarists in rock. He was phenomenal and Slick's and Balin's vocals were amazing.. Cowritten by Paul Kantner, David Crosby, and Stephen Stills

The triad of voices and Jorma's guitar rips give this version a much more apocalyptic reality to the song. 100% my favorite version.

Nicky Hopkins played piano on this song. He's played on songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, The Who, Joe Walsh, Jeff Beck, Joe Cocker, Donovan, Carly Simon, and many other artists. He's one of the most prolific session pianists in Rock & Roll History. Your point of how often the same songs were released but were so different.

Jefferson Airplane had two of the best voices to ever come out of the California sound: Grace Slick and Marty Balin. Both voices are shown off beautifully on the Surrealistic Pillow album, but you can hear them here as well. Gorgeous interpretation of this song.

Love this song and your review of it. JA has three vocalists: Paul Kantner (who co-wrote it with Stills and Crosby), Grace Slick, and Marty Balin, and I think they sang in that order. On the entire Volunteers album Nicky Hopkins played piano. He toured with them for this album though was not an official member. He did become an official member of Quicksilver for a while, the only time he joined a band. Check out "Edward (the Mad Shirt Grinder)" by Quicksilver for a great non-vocal long jam from Quicksilver's Shady Grove album. Great wonderful job you do with your enthusiastic reviews.

Jefferson Airplane needs a total deep dive. Grace Slick's best vocals are on the studio track "Rejoyce" (that's the spelling of the track). No one ever reacts to it, but it's a gem.

Now you're getting into the real JA. They produced a massive body of great and thoughtful and intense music but most folks only know White Rabbit and Somebody to Love. I urge you to dive deeper. Jorma Kaukonen's guitar here was mesmerizing. Always elegant. There was a lot of overlap with JA, CSN, Grateful Dead. Like a big extended family

I never understood how under appreciated this group has always been. People love to say they sold out somewhere along the line and they certainly were edgier at the beginning but, in all their incarnations, airplane, starship, baron Von tollbooth, they were still brilliant. Magnificent guitar solos and Grace slick, he best female rock voice ever. Listen to awakening from freedom at point zero, long G after their peak but still with a guitar solo that stands up there with freebird, sultans of swing, comfortably numb.
@yazmon4515
@yazmon4515 4 месяца назад
You mention Baron von Tollbooth and I think back to a song on that album, Harp Tree Lament, that I think is one of the greatest unheard songs ever. The album is not credited to Jefferson Airplane but to Paul Kantner, Grace Slick and David Freidberg and is well worth a listen for any Airplane/Starship fans that somehow missed it.

open conversation between THREE parties. Marty Balin actually did most of the high harmonies w/Paul Kantner on the baritone low end and Grace's alto/soprano doing most of the melody lines.

Hello *Shawn Salvadori* Have you ever ventured out east to Japan, the land of the rising sun there you will find a band called *BAND-MAID* an all female Japanese hard rock band that dresses up as cafe maids that like to rock with the best of them. Last year they attended Lollapalooza and put on an fabulous show Please react to their official video *REAL EXISTENCE* thanks. 😊

Grace Slick's voice has an incredible range and built in vibrato.....unique and wonderful. Jefferson Airplane was far superior to subsequent incarnations of the band. You should really look at more of their Woodstock (original 69) playlist.

FYI, Neil Young did NOT sing on the CSN version. Also, JA's Paul Kantner wrote this WITH Stephen Stills and David Crosby, which is why they both recorded a version. Each band did this in their own recognized genre - JA took the psychedelic route, while CSN went more folk/country rock.

Don't get me wrong, I love CSN's version of this and I think that Stephen Stills is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock. However, this is so much better. It is much more emotional both lyrically and musically and Jorma Kaukonen absolutely kills all these guitar solos. Oh well, you know what they say about opinions...

Airplane was one of THE. VERY. BEST. BANDS of the late 60s - we’re talking top 5. They were great innovative musicians and politically radical. Slick was incomparable. Volunteers is one of my all time fave tracks. Check Crown of Creation too. Love CSY, but this version is better (they probably agreed) Like I love Joni Mitchell, but CSY’s “Woodstock” is best 😉

First time hearing this and I think it's great, but still prefer the CSN version. The latter just feels more intimate, more personal... and just a little more eerie. Also I love how the original ends. "And it's a fair wind, blowing warm out of the south over my shoulder... guess I'll set a course and go..."
