Yup. Grace did not sing on the album or part of the group due to her dealing with personal issues at the time of recording. She formally rejoined the band soon after, and was there during their new albums, and name change to just Starship. Her appearance in this American Bandstand show was not too long after the album was already long out. Grace's voice would have been a nice addition to the entire album though.
Many people only know Mickey from the videos for 'Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now' and 'We Built this City'. This was the first song I remember hearing by them & his vocals are just superb. He reminds me a lot of Jon Anderson ( Yes) vocally, but more powerful. He & the amazing Grace Slick were some combination.
My band covered this song back in 1979-81. Then, about 10 years ago, I saw him live at the Minnesota State Fair after the band had become just "Starship". I brought a friend of mine who was a Vietnam war vet who rarely went anywhere except to the same bar every day. It took some coaxing to get him out of his comfort zone to go to the fair but he happily stood in line to buy a CD and have it autographed by Mickey. Sadly, he has since passed but I'm glad we had that experience together. R.I.P. Bob.
High school cruising around town stereo blasting.... this song rocked and nobody sat still or didn't sing this at the top of their lungs .... Great memory 😃
Good old American Bandstand! The signal that Saturday morning cartoons were over and it was time for lunch. So many great bands appeared on that show. 😊
The "AB" on the back wall stands for American Bandstand. This was an American show that played once a week. It was hugely popular. Major bands played on this show.
1979? The lady singer was Grace Slick! I cranked my headphones up to 10, but live the bass would be knocking your socks off. Thank you for this terrific choice!!!
@@williammcgechie4504 I might have misspelled his name, but I thought he was awesome, a kid joining a band that had been famous for ten years. Pressure. Might be Chaquico.
It was hard to witness the breakup of Jefferson Airplane, given their iconic status in 60s R & R, a many refused to listen to Starship. In retrospect, they were very good.
given the turn that the modern world is currently taking at all levels and includes creativity in education, any bands will be able to reach the degree of these three decades 60,70 and 80
That song is a rock masterpiece. Hahaha, I don't think Grace Slick would have appreciated you calling her a back-up singer, as she was the lead singer on many of the first rendition of this band's big hits as Jefferson Airplane. When Mickey Thomas came along, however, you are correct, and she was relegated to back-up singer! 😊 Check out No way out, and find your back to hear more of Mickey.
Loved this song from the moment I heard it too! I put this on my "Hot Licks" list for killer guitar solo's with outstanding crescendo's. This along with "That Smell" from Lynyrd Skynyrd are top 5. Voice is also incredible, so I agree with both of you!
Miracles Miracles Miracles By far in my opinion the best Starship song .. a lyrically frisky love song that musically builds, and builds. Same a Jane as far as incredible vocals, but on a whole different level. Not many reactors have showcased Miracles. But the job of reactors learning about past songs and opening up new fans that didn’t experience it firsthand is not sad, but possible if you take advice from us old souls who love watching, and get a thrill out of seeing others react in the same way when it all transpired. 😉
Oklahoma here...65 yrs. old......you guys crack me up.....your effort to express your feelings about the songs and your mild harassment toward each other (jokingly) keeps me glued to your every video. You are an inspiration to how a couple should get along and endeavor to broaden knowledge . Lovin' every minute of it. Thank you both!
This was a lip synced performance of the studio version. Looked like it was from a show called American Bandstand. There's actual live performances from around this same time, and Mickey sounds just as good as in the studio, as you would expect.
Real Rockin’ and Mickey’s voice is perfect on it! An even more Rockin’ song though with Marty Balin on lead vocals is the tune St. Charles. By the way many people actually think that’69 is preferred!🤪
I've seen Mickey Thomas live and he hits those notes effortlessly and doesn't break a sweat while hitting them. In fact his voice is so naturally strong that he has to back away from the microphone as not to blow out everyone's ears!
What happens to a 9 year old kid (me) in 1979 when he is the only one home and has a VERY LOUD Stereo system in the HOUSE.. AND this song can be played OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN....Well you can imagine... THANKFULLY... NO WINDOWS EVER BROKE....
You two are so precious !!! Love your reactions !!! Yeah, I also recommended this song, but I'm sure I'm not really heard but, I understand how this works and I'm okay with it, as long as you get steered in the right direction. If you go back and listen to this, and i hope you do (and believe you will), pay close attention to Mickey at the end of the main lead guitar solo. The guitarist climbs the scales to an obvious climax, and ends on a really high note, but Mickey comes back in and tops that by a whole (higher) note !!! What an amazing singer, as you already know !!
𝄞 Point of Interest seldom know: Craig Chaquico (lead guitar) made his debut on the album titled "Child of Nature" by Jack Traylor and Steel Wind (1973). His playing was so good that he was picked up by Starship shortly after. He then appeared on several Starship albums starting with "Dragonfly" and also spin offs like "Manhole" (G Slick) and the classic "Baron von Tollbooth & The Chrome Nun" (Slick and Kantner), etc.
3:40-It is an out of the stratosphere voice..even on the high range, he's got power...Starship was so smart to grab him..Between that and axe master Craig Chicaro, ( White guitar) they were more than ready to bring a more powerful sound into the 80''s. Both critics and fans loved it--Every rock radio station in the country kept it on heavy rotation,
Great reaction. Hey Guys we love your channel here in Missouri, United States. 😊😊👍👍 Would you please react to, "Run run run run run away", also by Jefferson Starship? You will love it I promise! Thanks in advance!
The guitar solo and lead guitarist was Craig Chaquico, he cowrote the song Jane. He played with Jefferson Airplane at age 16! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TWP6xtx_MLk.html, He is a Jazz guitarist now. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MvMWuIQoJK0.html
Mickey is definitely one of the greatest singers ever and still performing. This is a 🔥🔥🔥song one of my favorites ever. Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane is accompaning him another great singer in my opinion. White Rabbit and Somebody to Love are both very good songs. White Rabbit is different but physedelic as i dig much
