I am 23 years old, born and raised a witness. I officially stopped going to meetings after the 2015 International Convention that was being held in Seattle. I remember sitting there, miserable and sunburned, and watching Stephen Lett give the main talk. I was utterly baffled by his facial expressions, but the image that will never leave my mind was his gold pinky ring. Somehow everything just clicked in that moment, I was almost 19 and I just knew it was a facade. Thank you Stephen for stumbling right out of this bat shit crazy "religion"

I tried reasoning with my mom exactly this point... how it was thought of as being disrespectful to Jehovah to be using electronics and TV as part of worship, and now how it's being embraced as if these thoughts never existed before. Her response: We're moving along with Jehovah's chariot and that's what he wants us to do because it's now the normal thing to do. *Total facepalm*

If I were still in, this one single point would be enough to make me exit. Those of us grown up in the jws in the 70s and 80s know so well how much bashing and shaming the WT was doing on televangelists. That was a particular point of pride for JWs in general, another way to be "different" to distance themselves from false religion. Now, they've become the same. #KingsOfHypocrisy

By the way, any business has to have a mission statement to exist, nonprofit organizations that much more so. So what is the "mission statement"here? So many things to say. The way they are addressing this "internal" crowd vs the rank and file actually churned my stomach a bit. It's like they are all in on one big joke. No wonder so many bethelites leave, and it's no wonder the pillows at Bethel should come with a Health warning. Workers must be so stressed and frustrated, they have to relieve it somehow. Working 30 hours straight to get a project finished is frankly a disturbing report, if they had been a regular company they would have been reprimanded by a workers rights body. What we have here is a religious culty organisation without any of the actual organisation. The fact that they change their minds so flippantly depending on who is making up the membership of the GB proves that they are not God's representatives on earth, as surely his message/instructions would not change? I am also pretty disgusted that after pleading poverty twice, and systematically pilfering all it can out of each congregation by asking for a monthly commitment from each one, taking over deeds combining congregations, and selling them off for their own financial gain... That they are spunking so much money into this project, I understand that they are consolidating multiple smaller studios, but wow! It also annoys me that clearly this will be a very technical place, which means they will be sending people they choose to go and get qualifications and tertiary education. Everyone else can go hang!

Amazing video....I remember going in service and people having the TV on in the background watching a Church Sermon and when we left the pioneer or whoever I was working with would say...."Look at prophecy being fulfilled....They are foresaking the gathering of themselves together". I'm beyond grateful to have my mind, body, and soul back to where it belongs.

That letter from a child in Northern Ireland that he read out seems highly suspicious. I could see a teacher of kindergarteners asking for birthday wishes from their students as part of a lesson, e.g. if they were using it to lead into "when is your birthday?" and learning the months of the year and how to use a calendar, but for ten-year-olds? On top of that, the style of writing is both more and less advanced than I would expect from a ten-year-old; the sentences are so short and choppy they seem like they could be written by a first-grader, and yet there's a pretty clear arc to the letter, complete with an introduction and conclusion. Considering all that plus the tendency of proselytizers to tell outrageous stories about teachers in public schools and universities, I would not be surprised if this letter and its author turned out to be fictional, or at least heavily edited.

Hi Lloyd! Big step for me, I’m just now starting to comment. Anyways! What a great video, I’m just sitting here like “wow, just wow” when the cartoons and comics came out my grandpa was SHOCKED and my family hated them. So offending. To hear all this, casting calls, just wow.... sickening At 53:00 mark, how dare lett say “in a company they just dismiss you..” when they do the same exact thing, ice cold. I have elderly friends oversees who got dismissed and they were scrambling, he’s highly intelligent and gave his life to bethel, and now that they’re old they get the boot. Wow what white washing.

Before we left they WERE using credit cards to get you to pay regularly and conveniently soooooo YOU don't feel bad because you forgot to donate at the hall. We were amazed they had implemented C/C at the assemblies for convenience (mainly theirs).

At the end of the 6-year "spiritual journey" that saw me transition from devout Catholic to atheist, I was pretty angry at the leaders of my church. After all, they were professional theologians and Bible scholars. I had acquired what I would call only a rudimentary theological and biblical education during those 6 years, and yet *I* had figured out that it was all hokum. Why hadn't THEY figured it out? Then it occurred to me -- they HAD figured it out, and were perpetrating this fraud so they could keep their jobs, instead of having to do real work for a living. There is gross cynicism on display in building not only the sprawling Warwick center, but now this giant media center that's going to take 6 years to complete. I thought the end of the world was "any day now"? My sister got visited by Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1970s who begged her to get saved before the end of the world in 1975. Oops. The world didn't end in 1975. But it's REALLY going to end -- any minute now! It's obvious that the leaders of the JW organization don't believe the world is going to end any minute. If they did, they'd invest money in non-perishable food so the righteous could survive the tribulation until the survivors could grow those magical gardens you see in all the Watchtower videos, where pandas frolic next to the fruit trees. They wouldn't waste such a huge amount of time on a huge media center.

That is so terrifying. Televangelism was definitely evil in the eyes on the JWs when I was in it as a kid. I mourn for those in my family that have chosen this cult over meaningful relationships and goals. It sounds like many more will be lost, and that is sorrowful.

They take those videos so seriously my parents dress up to watch them in the privacy of their own home. Lol

Was the “worst convention ever” convention the one with the bunkers? I was sitting there with young children just floored that we were trapped and they had to watch something so dark and gloomy. My jaw literally dropped. It was intense. Is this appropriate for young kids? The first time I felt that way was during the hezekiah drama, and I took the kids out. Uhm I felt such cognitive dissonance cause aren’t we at the convention and here I’m not letting my kids watch the program cause it was dark and intense. I met Stephen lett at one of our assemblies. He had given a talk about sister pötzinger who was a good friend of my grandmothers and great-grandmother’s. Since he had just mentioned her in his talk I thought I would tell him about her and how encouraging she was to my great-grandmother in the concentration camp they both were at (yes you read that right, we go way back)... I was excited to share my experience, and when I told him, he could have cared less. Lol!!! Not even one bit. Cognitive dissonance again.

They're in effect the new 700 Club/Joel Olsteen. My first thoughts when they started JW Broadcasting. They are what they railed against for years in the 80's and 90's. They blend in, rather than stand apart in that aspect.

My daughter at 10 years old .. my son at 7 got expelled from school ‘cause they refused to do the flag wows... I was not an active jw... but I had to live with my mother which she was... so when I went to talk to the principal to ask him to get them back... he told me that it was not good for my kids going back to the same school ‘ cause they where ashamed and humiliated really bath... they are now 39 and 36... and guess what... they don’t want anything to do with God.... I seen a post online that from a church sign. It said, "a kind Atheist is better then a 2 faced Christian." I just seen that and thought that you would like it! I love your channel. I am a ex-jw and was completely burned by them and have lost my family also from it. I have been on my own since i was 19( so it has been about 15 years) My kids do not know their grandparents or the rest of my family either. I was also sexually abused from my step-uncle along with his own children and it was covered up by the CULT. His oldest son is now in jail for doing the same thing to his own step-daughter when she was 9 and his own brothers . I just want to say that you are a very brave person and I think you are doing great work exposing all the lies. I wish people would just wake up and see them for what they really are...A CULT!

Great video. I don't watch much exJW youtube anymore but this came up in my feed. It caught my eye because, as a senior, what they're engaged in, now, is so counter to what I was taught in my youth. It's like a completely different religion in many ways. You were right on point, keeping my attention throughout the whole video. It occured to me part way through that I didn't look to see how long the video was. When I checked, I was surprised to see that I'd already been watching for 45 minutes. It seemed like 15 at the most. It's nice to see you looking so relaxed and refreshed in your new bunker. It came out looking fantastic and very professional. Love the personal touches added to soften the cringe worthy photos and literature, lol.

Watchtower was actually remarkably prescient with their “The Electric Church Turns On” 1981 article. Indeed many of the terms you would have been hard pressed to even find within the mainstream press. Love the “Dad joke” ya dad made, by the way LoL and I remember that 1990 video and being amazed by the farm.

It's a bit rich for Stephen Letts to brag (at 53 mins) how WT looks after it's workers (unlike the world), when thousands of loyal JWs have been dumped after years of Bethel service, or as Special Pioneers, because Bethels have been closed or relocated to other lands, and Special Pioneers no longer needed. These people have no pensions or savings, no place to live, and no academic qualifications so end up window cleaning or supermarket shelf stacking in their old age. All the while the Governing Body live like Kings in luxury apartments, travel 1st Class and have the best of the best. They just want to suck the life blood out of workers for cheap free labour, while they amass a billion dollar property empire. Hypocrites.

Oh I loved 'The Organization behind the name'. I watched it as a teenager so many times. It made me want to go to Bethel like my brother did.

I was laughing my head off when he read the letter about the kid who refused to say happy birthday. I know it's really tragic the way this cult brainwashes kids, but the way they see the situation is just so backwards it's downright silly.

How do the JWs think this will help bring MORE people into the organisation? It will just push them away - along with existing JWs, who can think for themselves and who recognise devious propaganda when they see it.
