While many are born into the Jehovah's Witness faith, some find their way in via the doorstep. For Kim Asadourian, this would have a ruinous effect on both her marriage and her career.

One of the most annoying this about being a JW is the those always looking for the "JW discount." My elder dad was famous for asking and expecting the JW discount. A few years ago he needed tile work done on his house that was going to cost him over 20k dollars. He talked to a tile guy in his hall and asked him if he could do it for 5k. The guy agreed to come in after his normal job and work on weekends to get the job done. Think about that, an elder asking a member of his hall to spend time away from his family so he can get a discount. My dad sold the house a year later making a nice profit on the house and on this guys labor. Even though it was my father I was disgusted with that behavior.

The same thing happens in Mormonism, "Mormon Discount." My husband had a Mormon friend who was a dentist, and he lived in a predominately Mormon area. He eventually moved because he couldn't make a living between being expected to give discounts to fellow Mormons and then the fellow Mormons not paying their bills. My mother and I were also recruited as adults. I was in my thirties, my mother was in her sixties. We were at one of the lowest parts of our lives. My family had a lucrative business stolen from us. I was raised Catholic, and I felt that I didn't study the Bible as I should have. And their message was that the end was coming very soon and we wouldn't have to deal with this system anymore. The same system that allowed a business to be stolen from my family. So it was very appealing at the time. In five years, I was deemed unworthy of baptism because my job supporting my mother and I allegedly took too much of my time, which I suspect they felt entitled to my time being shunted to the organization. They also tried to encourage me to break up with my non-Christian fiancé. Although we were never baptized, I feel bad that five years of our lives were wasted associating with JW. I feel as if I will always be ashamed for allowing this to happen.

Exactly my thoughts. We are better off generally than we ever have been. There are less wars, less deaths from disease, less starvation etc than there ever has been. We live longer and healthier than we ever have. The problem is that we now also live in the media age and so are bombarded with mainly the negative things going on rather than the good. Bad news is news, good news tends not to be. So because of this we don't get a true perspective on the improvements we are making for humanity as a whole. The good thing about the media is that we are now aware of things going on that even 50 years ago we would never have been aware of. So with this information we can act. COP26 being a prime example of this. It's not perfect but at least we are getting together to confront a problem that effects us all.

Her distress at losing her worldly family relationships over many years is clearly evident. As a non JW, it’s not really about forgiveness towards the family JW, it’s about the ability to have a normal relationship knowing that trust has been breached 100’s of times over the course of decades. You can’t just accept an apology and pretend nothing happened. In my own case, i can barely claim to even know my sister properly given that she is in her 60’s and has been a JW since she was 10. I know my postman better so even if she left and apologised tomorrow morning, there is no real relationship to pick up. The history between us is non existent.

That's so true. Mistakes that were made by a family member, if not corrected, in a few years you loose all connections. What would have bound you together and kept you tight, now is a decision that you made years ago. You decided that the jehovah witnesses would be your family now. Your real family tried to reach out to you but were pushed away. Now you want to embrace them? Too much time has passed. Too much water under the bridge. You forged this relationship, or lack of relationship over the years. You worked on it. Now you have no flesh and blood family and have no jehovah witness family. Welcome, to the world you created.

It's hard to believe she had never heard about 1975! Maybe the era? I was raised from 5years old as a witness, my mom had been "recruited" and I remember very vividly how it was suppose to be 1975 course that didn't happen. I am 66years old now have been out of that faith since I was 26years old. I am only now realizing a lot of the lies, I feel like so much of my life has been wasted because of this faith. And being shunned and how alone I was.

You may be surprised who was NOT aware of the watchtower 1975 scare. The reason why so many didn't know about it, is because if it was brought up by anyone, the elders would eradicate the people who brought it up.. They didn't want their noses rubbed in their false prophecies. It was a good choice by the organization. After 1975 it was never brought up. So new people would never learn about it. Just what they wanted. Mention 1975 and jehovah witnesses knew you were an apostate.

Yes l can relate to a lot of this. Everything is oh so loving until you get baptised then gradually attitudes change towards you unless they want a freebee. If you have nothing to offer then..... Or it's OH a brother is a doctor or physio and helps so and so. But he's to busy or fully booked to get you an appointment. A lot goes on behind scenes like false attitude, shunning, often made up gossip, but never telling you about their accusations or grievences. (breaking the bible rule on grievances with another bro or sis) Yet, will deny if challenged. All mind control tactics. Overseers never listened either to those who needed help with such issues or if you were poor and working hard to be accepted. Jesus put things into perspective and said. in John 13:34, 35 and Romans 13: 8-11. These Verses especially V 11a. Really puts everything into perspective... "Now is the time to awake out of sleep...." (KJV. Study Bible.)

They completely ignored me having falling down the stairs and proceeded to preach the Bible to me . On no occasion did they attempt to help me and ask if l was ok. I have since over time become associated with other witnesses and who have in my opinion behaved exactly the same . I believe that the reason JWs were unsuccessful in pulling me in to this cult religion having tried severe times (only because l did not want to be disrespectful ) was down to my intuition thank fully and my Christian values . JWs are like parasites they find you wherever you go. I am angered that recently have received another letter from another JW who l have no recollection of that my details are not protected and are past on to other witnesses to try and have a go at pulling me and getting me involved They have been responsible for severing relations that a dear friend of mine who became indoctrinated into this dreadful cult. Both retired and on a limited budget my dad asked me to look for a car for him with his tax return. They had just moved to California and needed a car but I lived out of state so I offered my dad to go look and drive it over. Me having a good amount of knowledge about cars asked my dad what he was looking for. He started something along the lines of a Toyota Avalon. Said ok dad I'll see what I can find. Well after looking and test driving a few cars I found what he was asking for and bought it. Long and behold my mom decided to chime in and tell my siblings how it was a blessing from God that my dad was praying for an Avalon and won't you know it here I found and bought him one. Never mind that I knew what to look for and I was the one doing the test driving. Nah Jehovah did all that. Give credit where credit is due! And I'm damn sure it wasn't God lol

I think the love bombing is actually sincere on the part of the bombers. Although love bombing is definitely a characteristic of high control groups, I don't think it is a taught or practiced recruitment "tactic". It is a natural human response to be excited when you find someone of like mind or with similar interests. Unfortunately the love bombers are indoctrinated into a belief system that is of such epic proportions which has had such an undue influence over them, it is core to their lives. The love bombing is so intense because they are sharing their entire "life" with you. Their excitement does wear off naturally like any stimulus. The drudgery of JW life has them quickly looking for a new shiny object to focus on and feed that craving. Too bad it is so conditional and superficial.

Some people are 'pleasers' by nature, or by the way they were brought up.

I really need to be interviewed by you Lloyd. I was a door recruit and I was a young adult when I started studying. I never really looked at why I came into the org, what motivated me to study and believe and I was a very I n telling person but had psychological reasons to why I believed. I would be a good case study.

I apologize if you consider this story off the subject. I don't mind if it is deleted. When I was a J.W. there was a lady who had been studying the bible for a couple of years. But she didn't show much progress. She went very seldom to the meetings and didn't go out preaching. The sisters and helders started being impatient and were ready to stop visiting her. However, she was pretty receptive to the message, and 'to encourage her' she was often invited to baby showers, bride showers and weddings. Of course she accepted eagerly every invitation and showed up. One day at one of those receptions, one of elders aproached her table and almost shouted: And you? All this time? What are you waiting for? She understood very well what he was alluding to, but she just answered smiling: What do you think I'm waiting for? I'm just wainting for my meal to be served. Lol. J.W. =0 - That Lady =1 .

Go the 'Red Rocket'...or the PE book... That was my intro into a fantasy world too but i had to study 'The Blue Book' afterwards aswell.. 'The truth that leads to everlasting life'...i thought it was, but cant find it online. ..the word everlasting seems to be 'eternal'...so i may have had a brain fade or Mandella effect..(im old) I was only allowed to get dunked after 2 1/2 years...and then they made me do one more book... The Nations Shall Know That.....ohhh....kill me now.
