Soarix Channel I like the animation in episode 1 to episode 5 as t wasn't bad. However, the animation picks up from episode 6 right up to the last episode, which is episode 65. 😊😃
It was their bread and butter. If they caught our attention with the opening, the game was won. Seriously, watching openings was probably 50% of the fun back then.
And Netflix never tried to air it so I bought the DVD set instead. That was a mistake as the quality of the DVD production is the absolute worst. Sometimes the discs won't even play!
@@hexkwondo the fierce competition from Barbie was simply too tough to fight off. Mattel even tried to shamefully copy the idea by making a Rock n roll Barbie edition. It seems Hasbro caught them totally off guard as they thought the show would flop. It has instead become a classic example of the shows and cartoons associated with the 1980s. However its time slot on Saturday mornings may have led to its fall as channels no longer wanted to even fund Saturday morning cartoons by the mid 90s. I remember getting up early every Saturday to watch this with sooo many other shows on USA network's Cartoon Express.
Jem is a prime and perfect example of product positioning. On paper it's a MTV inspired barbie alternative. In reality it is a beloved 80's cartoon many young boys watched right along Transformers and Inhumanoids.
Or maybe the way the Misfits does the cutoff mid-way through the intro would be like the Troublesome Trucks of Thomas and Friends bumping and pushing the Sodor engines to their limits. Because the trucks are known to be chaotic. They like to cause trouble. Hence the name “TroubleSome Trucks.”

I literally used to run home from school to catch this show! It was a 15 minute walk. But school was out at 3:20 and this was on at 3:30. Unashamed fan of it 💗

I’m 17 (born in 2004) and I know this show was way before my time but it’s still my favorite. I used to watch it when I was getting ready for school at 6 every morning when it’s used to come on while I was like 9 or 10 years old. I literally fell in love with it!!!😍😍😍 Still in love with this show and the songs to this day!!!❤️❤️❤️

Got a huge influx of 80s and 90s cartoons from the Hub and they still hold a dear place in my heart (even though not from my time). Similar to the millenials who got reruns of shit from the 50s-60s, feel like that's a big part of why culture cycles in and out of itself every 20-30 years too
I'm a 2004 baby too and this used to be my favorite to watch on The Hub. I also loved the original He-Man and She-Ra that used to come on at night on Qubo. The memories 😭.
That's truly outrageous! I wish I had known about "The Hub" when I was much older. Good on you. It shows that you have good taste and that the toon stood the test of time. It was a magnificent animation that appealed to all, even though no boy at the time would admit it. Probably because most cartoons of the time crossed over to toy lines to sell toys. But us boys loved it even if we didn't care for the toys, which speaks to the quality of the production. (Though, the glowing Jem earring on the Jem dolls intrigued me, if not made me a bit jealous. Lol.)
I wasn't born in the 80s but my mom was so when I was little she let me watch some 80s shows like he-man, she-ra, and jem and the holograms and I absolutely got addicted to them so whenever I here their theme songs it's so to me nostalgia
My mum used to haunt me about the OG She-Ra while i watched the reboot, and she even dressed up as one of the J&tH characters for halloween. My mum is a literal legend at making me cringe, but she's a good mother

Still a great recording which I have a copy of with the 1-2-3 intro on a rare master recording cassette including 70 songs from the first season of Jem. No SFX and all of the tracks are from the original tape reels. The Jem theme is in stereo!

The bassline in this theme is freaking nuts. One of my favorite openings ever. Done great justice! Also, at :31 I love how Jem is like "beeyatches please" and knocks them out of the song. lol.
I showed my children this cartoon because my youger son was fascinated with the cartoons i grew up watching. After a few minutes into the very first episode after Jerrica transformed into Jem he asked me why they had big hair. I explained to him that big hair was popular in the 80s. I miss that decade and was so lucky to be born during that time.

The misfits would be far more popular today. Strong women who took what they want (albeit psychos and homicidal asses) and they do rock-pop-punk. Their music wasn't bad
The detail in this is amazing ..... Everything from the fringe on Jem's belt to the hair movement and direction . The fluidity of movement is spectacular . The beat is mesmerizing .

Me and my friend watched the movie because we knew how bad it was. I knew it was bad but I didn't that it was THAT bad. It was. It's actually the worst movie I've ever seen in my life.
I saw the final showing on the final night it was playing before it went out of theaters. I stood up after the Misfits post-credits scene and shouted "THAT should have been the movie!" I then spent five minutes explaining to a total stranger why the movie sucked.

Transformers, G.I. Joe & Jem are some of the coolest cartoons of the late 80's I use to watch all 3 of them on Chicago's Very Own WGN and later on The Hub
I'm only 11, but my father would have me and my brother watch shows from the 80's and we talked about games. He also owns comics and he's an all around cool guy. Hes 41. I remember watching this, the ledgend of zelda, and the Mario Bros. show. I miss you dad. I wish I could see you more often.
OMG This cartoon takes me waaaay back to my childhood days pretending to be Jem because we have the same name, hah!! Touching my earring and changing outfits haha!! Havent seen the movie yet, i hear it suxx, but i need to see it for myself. Someone needs to do remakes or remixes of the songs!! SHOWTIME SYNERGY!! XD
It's Jem in name only. No Jem songs. No synergy(just a small toy) Gender bending of Eric Raymond. No Misfits(only with the credits because of complaints). No Misfits songs. No Starlight Orphanage. No Starlight Records. Character history is completely rewritten( Mother is still alive but can't sing and father is no genius inventor etc). Jerrica and the rest are no independent women but needy teens. Need I go on? Basically it's just a Hannah Montana story with Jem names. They could've left the names out and it still would be a mediocre movie. It seems they would want to make them have a rol in the upcoming Transformer movie.
It's even worse than that. All that you mention, it's just bad adaptation. But it's also badly shot, badly written, the few special effects are incredibly cheap (they used Google Maps for their travel montage and in some scenes, they even left the logo in) and worst of all, a good third of the movie is made up of RU-vid videos. Some of these RU-vid videos were part of a contest that would allow fans to "appear" in this movie. They just had to film themselves talking about what they loved about the cartoon and they poorly edited it to make it look like they were talking about the character in the film. This push the movie from simply bad to despicable. Now, Michael Bay's Transformers don't look so bad.
@@toydigger lets just hope that someone takes the initiative to do a totally fresh remake. i feel like with the special effects of today it a really cool live action movie that is totally separate from the first attempt could be made, just need to get the idea to the right person :)

okay. I'm here because some studio decided to make Jem and The Holograms into a live action film. Saw the trailer and was totally disappointed. I was looking for the action and the effects that I remember from the show and just had to look for it to make sure that it wasn't my memory that was faulty. This live action is a travesty to the awesome show and sounds of Jem.
this song sounds nothing like EKT, I swear most of the people searching for EKT now are a bunch of teenage retards from tiktok who don't know shit about music from the 80's, they'll hear any music with a retro vibe and think it's the same as EKT
It already WAS old when you started watching it. Still I'm glad you liked it. I guess 1980s glitz and glamour and hairbands still have universal appear and don't always come off as comically dated to anyone who didn't live through it.

When I was a kid in the early 2000s, my family used to rent VHS's from a shop 20 minutes away from our house, and my younger sister got our parents to rent jem and the holograms for her. She would replay this intro over and over again because it was well animated and the theme song was so catchy.
That's a commercial theme, it was included on the Glitter and Gold doll cassettes. There are only two theme songs, this and the "Jem Girls" song used in later episodes.
When I use to watch this show on Netflix, I always thought how beautiful, smoothly and lifelike the animation for the intro was. Then on my animation course it was a prime example of rotoscoping. Which is a lot used in the 80’s but it’s one of my favourite ways to animate so this was very inspirational to me.
Man I use to fight with my sisters over the TV, this use to come on the same time as Voltron back in the day..hated Jem back then, but it makes me smile now thinking about my sisters and how life has come a long way. Thank you
Stephanie Mcgarry not completely true. CW has brought back Saturday morning cartoons. Only problem is instead of lasting from 7 to 12 it only lasts from 7 to 10, but I guess it's better than nothing.
my mom made me watch this when i was little and she thought i would hate it cause it wasn't one of the "new" more entertaining shows but instead i fell in love with it
I heard this opening again for the first time after almost 14 years, about 3 - 4 months ago. Seriously, after almost all those years where part of this opening was weighing on the back of my head, I finally found it. What a blast from the past and on top of that, a huge wave of nostalgia splashing me.
Best fact about this? This first take was so good, that the team didn’t want to part with Britta so they kept her as the singing voice for Jem after this theme (Samantha Newark was supposed to be both the singing and non-singing voice).
The sad thing is, if this series were ever published on Blu-ray, it actually wouldn't look as good as this, because it would almost surely be taken from the same source as the Shout Factory complete boxed set, which are the TV masters. But the earlier Rhino set (which I believe is the source of the video element here) was far superior, because it was taken from the actual original negatives, so the colours are much richer, the lines much sharper, etc. Now, a Blu-ray of the Rhino set would be, well, truly outrageous -- and unsurpassable in quality. But it likely won't ever happen, since Shout apparently now has the rights and, as mentioned above, they're using the TV masters that are one generation removed from the negatives, resulting in the drop in visual quality from what we see here.
FUN FACT: Jem was animated not by an American animation studio but by legendary Japanese anime studio Toei Animation who are famous for Dragon Ball, One Piece, Sailor Moon & countless other famous Anime. Toei Animation is the Anime branch of its famous parent company Toei Company who are Japan's biggest filmmaking & TV producing conglomerate responsible for the Godzilla franchise, Super Sentei (aka Power Rangers) & also produced many of legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa's movies.
-> I can imagine this remaster with updated animation (it would be perfect as a Josei-style anime)! Everything would be untouched (OST, voice-overs, etc.) except the animation. -> If I had the money I would fund it!

Jem was really freaking good from what I remember. But I do recall she was in a love triangle between her, her boyfriend and her persona and tiny child me thought it was so messy 😭
after listening to the three different section tracks, you kind of get a new appreciation for the full thing. (Although I didn't realize how little lyrics Britta had outside of "Jem" and "ooh".)
Before we had cable,my dad would go to the library and check out DVD's for us to watch. And of course most of them were cartoons that came out when he was either a kid or a teenager. This came out when he was a teenager,and he's 48,and I'll admit,this was a pretty good show.
