Fingers crossed that she gets to play Elphaba in the upcoming Wicked movie, she deserves it more than anyone.

omg no lies I think Idina is Elphaba as a character but dayummmm! Jemma I can say did the BEST "bring me doooowwwn" her "ahhhahhhhh!!!" doesn't hurt my ears. The note is consistent and she doesn't let go she let's the note flourish throughout with the emotions! omg bravo she's my new elphaba.

I've seen wicked 3 times, twice in Melbourne and once on Broadway.. On one of the Melbourne shows I saw Jemma when she was the understudy, and I can honestly say that was the best time I've ever seen the show! I'm seeing her in wicked again this June, I'm soooooo excited!

Just a few years late to this but pretty sure my ears just had their best orgasm in a long time. Best version of this song I have ever heard.

She has without a doubt an amazing voice. I get goosebumps when she hits those high notes. I had the priviledge of seeing her in wicked and although she sounds amazing in this vid, it does her voice no justice. jemma completely blew me away in her performance. She is breathtaking live and I cannot fault her voice. Definately true nobody else comes close to her...

@serafimjones You can't compare Jemma singing it to an audience, pretty much out of character, to when Idina is Elphaba on stage. Having seen Wicked three times, every time with Jemma as Elphaba, I can say she sings Defying Gravity beautifully and heartbreaking. I had chills, and tears in my eyes every time.

@omglolwhatever I've noticed that too. I find it almost uncomfortable to watch Idina sing live because it seems so unnatural for her to reach those high notes D: and like it's hurting her. Not pleasant. It should be effortless.

Jemma is absolutely amazing. Saw her in the recent Brisbane show where she played Elphaba. The end of defying gravity got an easy standing ovation. She's brilliant. Whilst I personally think Idina Menzel is the best Elphaba in terms of acting, and the chemistry she shared with Kristin Chenoweth when they were Elphaba/Glinda together, I think Jemma is a much better vocalist than Idina.

@BlazedHearts I've worked it out, you don't live anywhere near London do you ? I don't normally discuss things like this on RU-vid comments but you use of the word 'hate' needed addressing on these comments. It's your right to have an opinion but I would urge others who read this to disregard a personal opinion carrying such a negative message towards an outstanding actress and singer like Rachel Tucker :)

@kenny6446 yeah, if they put this riff on it, or do it like they do on the show. but the high F that is in this song every time is the one on "deFYing gravity," and that's the one that everyone thinks of in reference to the high F in "Defying Gravity." They did do the F, and it was great, and i LOVE glee, but that just not where it should have been. plus, when he threw it, it was on the first "bring me down," not either of the spots where a high F is..haha

I heard her in Marina Bay Sands Singapore just last night, plus I got her autograph in the after-show fan meet! It was one of the best nights of my life :') And frankly, I agree, she is an AMAZING Elphaba. I've seen reviews that felt the "Defying Gravity" scene was not a good enough climax, but I gotta say, she's better than Idina Menzel. Simply stunning.

Everyone has their favourites but in my opinion the best 3 are Idina, Kerry Ellis and Rachel Tucker. If you are in London and a Wicked fan you must see Rachel Tucker she was born to play this role, go see her and you'll understand :) I do miss Kerry Ellis though as her acting and the growl were so amazing :) but Rachel is as good if not better - anyone else seen her ?

actually, many have done it, just only on special occasions or random days. they can't do it all the time, it would ruin their voice. Dee, Alexia, Eden, Shoshana, and others have done it. Plus, in Glee, they were talking about the F in "i'm flying high deFYing gravity" that's where the high F is (the "FY"), not in the second down...(:

@BlazedHearts Well hate is a strong word and you can never tell from videos anyway. You tube live videos are for nostalgia and nothing more really. Go see her live if you are a true Wicked fan, you will retract your comment. I don't 'hate' any Elphaba's but as I said we all have our favourites.

Well ofcourse not, what would people say if the 'standby' showed up to press events and interviews? Amanda got all the reception, while Jemma did the work. It wasn't until Sydney that Jemma began getting the publicity she deserves.

i saw jemma in wicked in adelaide the other night and she was unbelievable. i actually haven't been able to listen to the broadway recording with idina since then, it's just not as good. jemma is amazing

Jemma is so freaking amazing. Ugh. But I love Idina as well. Obviously Jemma's voice is better(JUST LISTEN TO IT.) But Idina's personality is just so laocvfhap;'k/lmfv. Just love them both.

yeah, she definitely does it more often than most. she does it almost every time (and it's AMAZING!!), but she's not the ONLY one..that was my point. that she does it, but others have too. =D

she is only one in all of these defying gravity videos that ive seen on youtube that actually does the high note in the second "down" at the end that they were talking about in glee she is incredible

She has a pretty voice, and sings the song well. But she sings it so sweetly. Idina sings it like her heart is breaking. This version cant compare with that.

I want a recording of the soundtrack featuring Jemma Rix and Lucy Durak ... On the official CD the lead's have very poor voices for such a great show.

She's great! I just wish the vocal track was higher. It's a lot of orchestra and can't hear her really. But that's not the her or your fault.

before I knew Wicked I absolutely adored the Glee version as well but the song was written for a musical, it has to add something to the story and be mixed with the story. This version does that way better, it tells a story and I think the Glee version is to pretty for that. I love both versions but now I absolutely prefer the original version.

I think apart from having a gorgeous voice and a face to match, what I like best about Jemma is that you can feel the giddy idealism, determination and hope coming through in the performance.
