Vance served four years in the Marine Corps as an enlisted combat correspondent, in public affairs, and deployed once to Iraq for roughly six months, according to his military record. He left service in September 2007 as a corporal. He needs to leaarn if you're going to attack the opposition then you need to be squeaky clean.

"Stolen valor" crap must be pushed back. Facts: Walz retired in May, 2005. The orders for his unit to go to Iraq were issued in July, 2005. He was ineligible to deploy to a foreign theater in any case due to his hearing loss. (While stateside, he'd been on a waiver, which he knew would be automatically revoked + his retirement forced if his unit was ordered overseas. There is speculation online by former military (unconfirmed by me) that he had a heads-up on the Iraq deployment + retired two months before the orders were issued so a new CSM could be trained + installed so his men didn't have to go into a war zone with an untested new leader.) This rings true to me. But he could not have deployed to Iraq in any case.
