Jenn and Lucas rank the best fast food fried chicken in L.A. | The Bucket List 

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for watching our brand new episode of “The Bucket List!!” This week I enlisted the help of the amazing Lucas Kwan Peterson, host of the LA Times series Off Menu (if you haven’t watched it yet, you can binge all the episodes now!) to rank 5 fast food chicken restaurants: Jollibee Popeyes KFC Church’s Krispy Krunchy What’s your favorite fast food chicken??

Lucas was really at his best travelling to different cities and introducing the viewers to different types of food. Unleash Lucas please. Send him abroad!

This is a great test but flawed results in terms of testing. Although ranking “original,” chicken, it is often not the restaurant’s best output. You guys should have ranked the best version from that restaurant (it would have been a quick decision), and that would have changed the results dramatically. Everyone who knows fried chicken would get the spicy from Popeyes and Jolliebee’s (so much better than original, flavor wise, not just spice). KFC’s extra crispy, would have fared better than original recipe I believe for this test. Nice job eating in car (budget) but give us better broll and beauty shots of the food. Excited to see more content, LA Times and food is a great combo. I just know you all can be even better In the execution of this content. Fried chicken is a gift from God.

This is such a small pool of fried chicken considering fried chicken spots wholly abundant in Los Angeles.

Good stuff Lucas and Jenn. Church’s been my go to fried chicken. You guys should do a grocery store version of this video. Their chicken is underrated. Also you guys should do one for the smaller-less known-chain chicken place like Louisiana fried chicken, Jim Dandy(lone survivor on Vermont), etc and these places are usually found in the inner city. They would appreciate some extra shine/light on their establishments. Thanks.

From what I understand, the original recipe chicken from KFC is said to be cooked in a pressure cooker so perhaps that would explain its texture? Anyway... Loving the videos on your channel. Keep up the great work!

Ohhh nooo. I was sure youd love Krispy Krunchy Chicken. Ive had it here in Long Beach (its inside a gas station) and was blown away by it. It was Krispy and Krunchy and juicy and very impressed with the breading coming off with each BITE. Yum!

Churches is the best and Popeye's spicy is a close second.

I'm reminded of an old Pappy Parker Frrrrriiiiiied Chicken commercial. Ooh, what a ringtone that would be, lol.

The results! I'm stunned on various levels. I've never been able to pick a number one because of Church's and Popeyes. They are a dead even for me. Because I grew up with kids from the Philippines, I'm partial to Jollibee. However, I love KFC. And for the spice of the chicken skin I consider them almost without peer. That you guys put Church's at the top--which I agree with--and KFC at the bottom is strange. In our part of the world, Church's is quite urban, even dangerously so. Lots of my friends won't visit a Church's for fear of carjacking and other such shenanigans. But I go anyway. Church's reminds me of chicken fried on the farm--yummy and greasy. In recent years, however, I've concluded that Jollibee is at or near the top.

I pissed y'all didn't go to Pioneer chicken. Come on!! There's only two left and it's beyond amazing.

Thank you for the video. Well done. My personal faves are Popeyes and Krispy Krunchy. Church's is good but not great. Their quality varies from franchise to franchise. Note to Jenn and Lucas: I am not here to defend KFC, they deserve the bottom but when it comes to crispy chicken the Original Recipe will NEVER be crispy, that's why they offer Extra Crispy. The problem is the latter doesn't have spices they use on the former. KFC uses less flour on their Original Recipe.

You guys should do this list for Korean fried chicken fast food joints.

Surprised to see Jollibee rank so low. Other than that you're spot on. Being a fried chickenista I indulge more than I should.

I had no idea Krispy krunchy has standalone locations. I live in New Orleans and they're all in gas stations here. I've never tried them 😅

4:09 what did Jenn pick up? An entire quarter dark fried together? 😂 I do like KFC's spices, but I wonder if their original cooking method makes the coating soggy. I agree, Jollibee is okay, but doesn't have a distinct taste. Oddly enough, I've found a good source of fairly good for low price (it's not spectacular but does satisfy the craving) is Albertson's deli fried chicken when they have cheep fried chicken specials.

I don't live anywhere near Los Angeles (though I was just there for a weekend visit), but I can speak to this video. 1) This comparison isn't accurate if Popeyes spicy and Church's spicy aren't included in the comparison. (I would also add KFC extra crispy to the test.) 2) I've never had Jolibee's chicken, but I have had the other four, and comparing them, along with two "bonus" fast food chicken restaurants that I don't believe have locations in the Los Angeles area (one of them I know doesn't): 1) Popeyes (spicy) 2) Bojangles (southeast U.S. chain based in Charlotte) 3) Church's (spicy) 4) Pollo Campero (based in Guatemala, but has some U.S. locations) 5) Krispy Krunchy Chicken (disappointed by it the one time I had it) 6) Kentucky Fried Chicken (with extra crispy being better than original recipe) Church's a little more inconsistent than Popeyes, but you can't go wrong with either one, or Bojangles. (All three have a Cajun' spicy flavor.) Having said the above, and admittedly it isn't a true fast food chicken restaurant, but Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, which also have a Cajun' spicy flavor, despite being based in the Memphis area, is distinctly better than Popeyes, Bojangles, or Church's.

Next up - maybe a grocery store fried chicken ranking? My vote - Albertsons....

In Memphis, we have a chain called Gus's. It's the freakin' best! Consistently ranks #1 in national polls. You should def try it if you're ever in the area.

You missed out on a better fast food chain: Louisiana Fried Chicken, particularly the one on Centinela, just east of La Cienega Blvd. I’d would had you try Pioneer Fried Chicken as well, although there are only 2 locations left in LA. But then again, how many Jolibee’s are there in LA?

From my experience with working at KFC, sloppy skin, is due to not letting the chicken rest for a few mins. give it 5-7 mins it will set right.

Church’s is the best fast food chicken periodt!

These ratings might be different compared to where you live. These large establishments have tens if not hundreds of thousands of restaurants across the states, not to mention globally. A well-maintained Popeyes on the West Coast might not be the same as an old, rundown Popeyes on the East Coast. However, the things I've seen in this video seem largely the same, despite me living on the East Coast.

If you were to take into account the sides jolliebee offers their chicken experience would be very different in context. Also taking sides into account Popeyes wins hands down. Red beans and rice!

Why would you go to Popeye's and get mild chicken then put hotsauce on it?

It's cool to hate on KFC but in reality their chicken is tasty as hell. Bring a bucket of original KFC to a pot luck and it's always the first to go.
