The second verse she cuts from other performances but 2:03 - 2:27 has got to be the most staggering part of the performance. The climax and the runs to me are dwarfed by the power highlighted in that verse.
This song is not about God. It is about the pain of love. It is about love being a "Hallelujah" experience, while at the same time one of pain, deception, and loss. It is a song about the human experience with the power of love. It is only out of place if you want it to be a song to glorify God, which it is not. The Pope is about glorifying God, but he is also very much concerned with healing the brokenness in people. I think the song is fine.
imo the only person until now that has done Leonard Cohen's beautiful song justice is Jeff Buckley ,now Jennifer, who has known such tragedy, has in her way done it justice as well, she did indeed leave out a lot of words, but appropriately so .
I lie not. Look at those fishermen who were with Jesus, when God empowered them and gave them eyes to see, spiritually, they could glorify God in ways that the average persons could not! God made them see things how He sees them. Some were wise and said less, others mocked at their wisdom in God-please do not be one of those. I do not want anyone to sin against God through their UNWISE words. If you think I am wrong, then look at the singer who changed the words. She singer was asked to sing the same song in a Catholic Church and she said,"Father, you do not know what the song is saying." She them went and got permission to change the wordings and sang an appropriate version glorifying God! The song's only good is the Hallejuah Chorus part for Hallejuah is saying, Praise the Lord but see how it goes on to glorify sin in every place!
People, this is a disgrace. This song does not glorify God at all!! Why did they use it? Was it because the word halleujah is in it? No body can pull any wool over God's eyes! He is not moved by such things --such evils! The song is an insult to a holy, pure, undefiled God!!
+j Kelly - We can't sing Hallelujah unless we are in need of and experience God's Saving Grace and Mercy. The last time that I checked every human person has "sinned and fallen short in the glory of God." And God was "moved by such things" as the sins of King David and every one of us .. moved enough to send His Son to die and rise for us: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!
+Sonya Jones She showed excellent control. And she showed it throughout this performance. She was soft when she wanted to be and bombastic exactly where and when she wanted to be. Not everyone CAN sing with such power, not everyone has it. She has it, and did a gorgeous job letting it bloom into the final climax. Melissma was in check (some singers would've sang runs all over their bg singers pars), and her vibrato and breath support were effortless. She has come a long way since AI and this argument of her needing to control (or other words "tame") her voice is utter nonsense
