This was a heartbreakingly beautiful day. I had the honor and privilege of attending and singing at Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum’s memorial service. Rylee was just 20 years old, and weeks away from becoming a father, when he was killed in the Kabul airport bombing on Aug 26th. Yesterday’s service included Full Military Honors, a 21 Gun Salute, and stories of a young man that was so full of love and courage, who couldn’t wait to become a Marine. Tears were flowing as I watched his sweet wife, Gigi, walk down the aisle holding their newborn daughter. This song is for her and for all members of Gold Star Families. Jim, Rylee’s dad, and his sisters, Cheyenne, Roice, & Stephanie are some of the kindest, most resilient and loving people I’ve ever come across. Thank you to the entire McCollum family for having us be a small part of such an absolutely beautiful day of respect and honor of Rylee’s life and sacrifice. The proceeds from this song will be going to “Heroes Never Forgotten”, a fund that supports all 13 of the families who lost their loved ones in Afghanistan.
