For me why I love Conroy's portrayal of Batman is the fact that hes one of the few things of my childhood that stood for a long time, him passing reminds me of how old I am now. I grew up watching the old Batman to the current one. To me he stood for so long, which made me feel younger than I really am, bless his heart for doing so much for those 27 years! Anyway sorry, was just answering, doubt anyone would read this.

This was my biggest issue with DCEU because they just EXPECTED the audience to just KNOW the characters’ backstory and accept the storyline we’re fed. I hated that because it didn’t let the audience empathize or understand their characters. That’s why MCU is better: you see growth in them and get invested.

You definitely have some good points there & it's interesting to see somebody actually get the characterization and the differences down between Bruce Wayne and Batman, because let's face it they're not the same person. We haven't had that in a while and it's good to see that coming out of voice acting again. I personally enjoyed it. Great video essay by the way!

Conroy’s Batman will always be the best outside of the main comic continuity. But Ackles is definitely awesome.

Affleck however showed compassion he bought the bank that foreclosed on the Kent farm, he told wonder woman people are still good, despite their conflicts, and he also reunited superman with Lois after his resurrection, not to mention he also upheld his promise to supes to save his mother despite his personal beef with the man of steel.

That was my main issue with Nolan’s Batman. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but I was disappointed that they focused a little too much on the brawn and not on his detective skills or intellect. Good video, I think Jensen did great and I would love to see him voice Batman again.

Red over on OSP said "Can you imagine your Batman comforting a small child? If yes, congratulations that's a genuine Batman. If no, you haven't written Batman, you've written Punisher in a funny hat." Red's quote perfectly encapsulates Batman in my opinion. And these moments are actually the best Batman moments in my opinion. Like when Batman sits with a dying Ace in Justice League Unlimited, or when he's explaining to Wonder Woman why he let Dick help take down the man who killed his parents in Young Justice. I feel like Bruce knows his life is absolute shit, so when he has these moments,, it's to help the people know that they won't turn out like him, which is what Batman says to Wonder Woman in Young Justice. The DCAMU Batman doesn't have these, save for that one time at the start of Justice League Dark when he saves a baby after it's mother throws it off the roof of Gotham Cathedral. That's it.

Very interesting video, and you make a good point! It's definitely more interesting to see Batman struggle and have to learn and figure things out. That being said, I actually prefer my Batman being super strong and smart. I remember in the Justice League cartoon there was that one episode where the bad guy could do stuff while you slept (horribly paraphrased) and Batman had a plan to combat it with the triple coffee and listening to that loud song while he drove. I liked seeing him know exactly what to do, because it was fun seeing how he would come up with a way to win in the end. That's what I like about Kevin Conroy's portrayal as Batman. Even when he was just starting out, he sounded like he had been doing the voice for years and already knew the tricks to maximize his acting while making the voice more subdued yet unique. You could hear his experience, which works for me because I prefer my batman to be older anyway, like late 30's to early 40's. Of course, I don't mean any disrespect towards your views on this. It's just my opinion. I like what I've heard from Jensen Ackles so far. I'm not sure who my favorite actor would be besides Conroy though. Maybe Roger Craig Smith or Bruce Greenwood, because to me they at least have that same tone I'm looking for that I heard in Kevin Conroy.

I completely agree Calvin Conroy will always be in my opinion the one true Batman however in the world were actors are human… And people kept playing one role for one reason or another forever… Someday the torch will need to be passed and in my opinion Jensen Ackles is the only one who can come close to Conroy perfection and the only one who should pick up that torch

I am yet to watch the essay but I do agree maybe not for the same reasons which is why i am writing this before watching because it doesn't Taint my opinion. I will add a reply for when I watch but Here we go To me there are three things that need to be three things with there own requirements 1. The voice of bruce wayne 2. The voice of batman 3. Portrayal and preformance **potrayal and preformance** So a thing to keep in mind is that I will cretique batmen that people like and dislike and will give credit to those who those people dislike when credit is due. Each batman is not 100% the same. Crisis on two earths has a apathetic feel to him but he can show his heart when the situation calls for it. Kevin conroy had a sense of stoicism and a calculating voice cool but intimidating. he has a calm voice when integrating someone bur when he gets angry it's terrifying. Ben Affleck has a deap sense of sorrow that no other batmen have. my point is that year one batman isn't arkham knight and isn't Matt reeves the batman. the question is who is the batman they are looking for. Kevin conroy to me could do most of the things that other batmen could do as the voice. he could be existential or some what an intructor in beyond. he can show his admiration and heart in justice league. his stoicism in arkham Jensen has a lot down with the scare crow seen he can act as the boy who watched mama and pop get deleted. he can be calculated in the scenes with him with Alberto. stoic in the ending scene. that's how he gets the voice **the voice of bruce wayne** bruce does have the same rule where it depends on what they are going for. Gotham is a young bruce pre batman. dark knight returns is old batman. but right here are the general requirements of wayne. I won't include robbert Pattinson because he isn't the playboy and he isn't meant to be a lot of people cretiqued his bruce wayne I think they are missing the point but generally bruce is cocky. irresponsible. he can have his buissness side as well as a douchy act with drinking, walking over women ect. jensen plays bruce fairly well. he has brufe wayne as a some what cock irresponsible millionaire. and unlike a lot of batmen he can show humanity without the mask. Micheal keaton did this as well in his own way he could have scenes where you notice he just is disinterested and not fully there. **batman himself** batman can have a great preformance and a terrible voice. Christian bale pls don't kill me hear me out. his voice was un natural it wasn't naturally intimidating it was him shouting he sounded like he was choking on nails. crisis on two earths batmans voice is a bit shrill or somthing and it made him less scarry. intimidation. batman doesn't always yell to scare people. a detail you'll notice in the arkham games is that when batman only yells in serious situations where he is getting desperate or if there is an actual frustrating obstacle. raise his voice yes but not always yelling. batman can naturally be intimidating where its like he knows what he is getting awnsers also superman is Clark Kent flash is Barry Allen bruce wayne is batman bruce wayne died with his parents and the real bruce wayne is batman. batman atleast to me needs to sound like he isn't just a guy in a mask like he isn't putting on a voice for the role. obviously he is or atleast he has a voice for bruce wayne. batman is the mask. I can say the second voice would be George Clooney. I am just joking I haven't even seen that movie. but anyways it's actually Jensen he is the perfect successor some would say Croger craig or let's be honest Troy baker. I would say Jensen is a size fits all and also in my opinion third place goes to Troy baker. regardless though who knew the best voice for red hood would be the best batman that isn't conroy. I'm sorry but Kevin unironically set the standard it's impossible to beat the example regardless Jensen would also be a perfect live action actor. there was a rumor he was going to do it for the dark knight and begins and honestly bale fans would kill me but I personally would prefer it. The New 52 universe conveys the fact that bruce wayne is more batman than bruce wayne, which plays through in the animated films as he can't come to terms of what bruce wayne is. Wayne isn't real so depending when that batman is around he wouldn't have to talk in a facodicle way. Needs to be said

The analysation becomes a bit dramatic when speaking about other roles as batman, we know the films are meant to be for the common they aren't interested in emotion. Most won't get with the emontional side of the batman's compassion. Only a select will understand..

Jensen should play Batman in new DCEU once Universal Comcast buys WB. Personally I don’t like Ben Affleck version of the character not saying that is Ben’s fault it’s more of Snyder/Joss fault of how they wrote him like a complete badass guy that can do any he wants to do because can. But with Jensen Batman he is wrote between the lines to where this version of the character is still human like he still make mistakes like a normal human being and he’s not perfect at all.

I don't mind his Batman voice. He managed to make his vocal performance believable and he also to make it very similar to Kevin Conroy's (may he rest in peace, speaking of him). But like you said, he doesn't try to use two different voices for Bruce Wayne and for Batman, it's a typical Batman trait to talk a certain way when he's wearing the cowl so he's not easily recognized by others. Also, after Justice League War, which was his first performance as Batman, his voice becomes more nasal, which I think is a flaw. Also, I saw an interview with Jason O'Mara on RU-vid, and his real voice is very different from the one he uses to voice Batman, so why doesn't he use his real voice to voice Bruce Wayne? Overall, I like Jason O'Mara as Batman, but I think his first performance is the best because in that film it doesn't sound nasal like in his later performances.

I didn’t like Robert Downey Jr as Holmes because I have grown up with all the British versions of the character. I only liked the second Holmes movie he did but I hated the first movie. I prefer Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes because he is true to the character.

I agree that Jensen Ackles is a good batman, but you don't really make your point well. Your main complaints have to do with the batman stories we've gotten, not the actor themselves.

The Christian Bale movies were good, but I believe that he was the worst to ever play Batman. That voice was so bad.
