Jeremiah Johnson made his way into the mountains
Bettin' on forgettin' all the troubles that he knew
The trail was wide and narrow
And the eagle or the sparrow
Showed the path he was to follow as they flew.
A mountain man's a lonely man
And he leaves a life behind
It ought to have been different, but oftimes you will find,
That the story doesn't always go that way you had in mind.
Jeremiah's story was that kind. . .
Jeremiah's story was that kind.
The way that you wander is the way that you choose,
The day that you tarry is the day that you lose.
Sunshine or thunder, a man will always wonder.
Where the fair wind blows.
An Indian says you search in vain for what you cannot find.
He says you'll find a thousand ways for runnin' down your time.
An Indian didn't scream it, he said it in a song,
And he's never been known to be wrong.
He's never been known to be wrong.

This movie caused me to move from So. Calif. to the Mountains of NorthWest (Heron) Montana, where I lived in a Tipi & built a Log Cabin, where I lived 16-years with no power, running water or indoor plumbing. We did have a huge creek running through the middle of the property, where we built a sweat lodge this side of a large Beaver Dam. Had a horse, pack mule & lived the Mountain life as much as I could. Trapped Beaver, hunted deer & elk with my bow & arrow, had a Trading Post, attended Rendezvous, and sustained the loss of my wife and our 2 children only a couple of years later when she took them back with her to So. Cal.

Thank you; I most definitely relate to your 'histoire d’amour.' It is true that yesterday holds memories in time. A familiar 17th century English ballad expresses the idea that some are fated to know more than one true love throughout one's lifetime--at varying degrees of love, I'm sure: "Are you going to Scarborough Fair? (Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme). Remember Me to One Who Lives There... He Once Was a True Love of Mine." Thus, no doubt you've experienced true loves throughout the decades; however brief or long. You were fortunate to have known the unique and gifted soul that was Tim McIntire ~ Many continue to be touched by his artistic imagination to this day. ( I intuit he was fortunate to have known your warm, romantic soul as well! ) You will meet again. ~✨ Best wishes! ~🎶

I liked how they worked into the movie all the little details of his life, as he did work as a woodcutter for a time and off and on as a cabin builder for others. The Navy cap he wore at the opening was great touch hinting at his time in the Navy before he went to wander in the mountains. He even joined the Union Army in 1864 and served for 2 years I think. Then was a sheriff and a marshall for many years in late 1800's. He died elderly at an Veterans home in California.
