Directly opposite of your comment, RU-vid is recommending me a video of a GR Yaris being thrashed at a Time Attack event at Tsukuba. I think it's the sign of a very healthy motorsports-scene.
I guess what I was trying to say is, if it’s meant to go fast, it usually looks the part. I like to see vehicles evolve, but on the flip side of that coin, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I feel like that's mostly nostalgia. Go check out 1320 video especially. Also where i live you can go out any night and find yourself a small group to go race.
@@Dr1ftop1a yeah and im saying that realistically there has never been a better time for street racing. With fb events and how cheep power is there days.
@@jacopozenomoscardo1604 - I get what you’re saying, especially compared to a modern McLaren for instance, but I think it’s important to contextualize design in its time. I couldn’t decide if the weird orange car that had the round headlights was meant to show advanced or English design, but I thought it was hideous. I’d think many cars if the vintage of the R32 are pretty hideous and it seemed almost like “boring” was something to aspire to back then.
@@michaelmeliambro5117 - Really? People seem to hold the new GTR in pretty high regard, though I’ve yet to even ride in one. They are uncommon on the East coast. What’s your thinking? Is it build quality or design? The adulation you hear about it and that there are only four or whatever guys who make the engine and on and on would lead you to think it was something pretty special. What are your thoughts?
It’s jaw dropping to me to see a television and GPS and back up cameras in their cars like it’s nothing. Even in NA I’d say they’ve become normal (aside the TV part) but that’s really just very recently.
No one called it boring except for butthurt britbongs being triggered because no one buys their trash cars since the 70s, as well as there being an island nation driving on the wrong side of the road, that loves tea and denies its warcrimes that makes cars superior to theirs in every way :D
Paddy McGuinness is still pooping himself in the pants and crying a lot like a little twat in his kindergarten back in 1995 when Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld is made.
over time people figured out the RB26 could take even more, in the 90s if you managed 850 in it you are pretty much at the limit since there is no information out there on how to squeeze out more
@@daveh6424 Nah, visually, the Nissan R32 GTR was never a looker even during the time it came out. That didn't matter though because that car dominated in every competition it participated in.
Can we just appreciate that driving simulator? It's amazing how the most advanced technology in the world you can just buy off the internet as a consumer
No one ever realized that Clarkson has reviewed or driven every Skyline GTR from 32 to 35 except the 33 and he always says that the GTRs could compete with european supercars
Could compete? Ahahahaha I never forget the gt series when supras and gtrs blinks its lights to a mclaren or lambo to get out of it way......an street platform wining against superhyperultra european "supercars".
I understand why they called r32 ugly the reason is at that time they didn’t have too many cars with super busy and non symmetric design that’s why the whole car industry started to design weird freaky looking cars in 2000s and we still have them so now that we are in a time full of non sense large heavy non symmetric cars , we appreciate the simplicity and balance of that skyline gtr. Some manufacturers started to realize this and now they are creating modern style classic designs like new 400z new Lamborghini Countach.
I agree. the r32 is a powerful beast, but put it next to a camaro and it just looks very dull. And with the thing right now im glad some manufacturers are starting to return to its roots in terms of design, the 400z like you said and the type S nsx.
Except a lot were outside the price range of many, as they said the Skyline was out of reach of most of the younger racers, but the businessmen in midnight driving scenes could.
I lived in japan in 95 and was fortunate enough to own a 95 r33 and witness the birth of drifting as well as race on the yokohama highway. Always hid in motomachi at yamashita park.
NGL, I shed a tear for the fact that I will most likely never be able to experience midnight club with a MK4 or R34. This vid was an mazing blast from the past!
Not just anyone with an A70 or R34 or whatever can just "experience midnight club". It was very exclusive and consisted of rich businessmen who were able to control their vehicles with great skill at high speeds for several minutes.
This Episode is gonna be my favorite forever, young, handsome Jeremy Clarkson talking about Japan, Japan’s evolve during 1995, Japanese Car Culture such as drifting, speeding down the highway, even visit Keiichi Tsuhiya the drift king.
He does look pretty old nowadays but he always kinda looked old for his age to me. Maybe all the smoking caught up with him. He has all that energy and motivation to run his 450 acre farm though, always coming up with new projects so he seems to be doing well for his age.
@@Toxic2T prolly depens where do you live, in EU, especially in my country i know like 10-15 people in my small town that have golfs, civic is a rare thing here but on the other hand i believe thats the opposite in the US, you get civics everywhere but golfs are pretty rare to see
@@philithegamer8265 As I said, it is an inoffensive and timeless design. I didn’t call it beautiful, even though I rather like it. A very well engineered car as well. Overpriced? Maybe. Overhyped? Most likely. A good car? Definitely!
@@silverace08 Fair enough. But JDM fanboys can be a bit… well let’s say similarly peaky as some turbos. ^^ Still a fantastic car though, and I would love to have one!
This was what opened my eyes to Japan when I was a wee lad in the 90s , Always love Japanese cars but b4 Internet and youtube you wouldn't see much except a show like this 👌🤙💯
Honestly it's just British bashing on the Japanese brand as for whatever reason the UK just isn't as into Japanese cars as say the US is. In 1995 You had the Supra, RX7, Z32, S14, NSX, Celica GT-Four, MR2, Mitsu GTO, Mitsu FTO, I mean the list goes on, that's just a few of the brands. I mean they even had a bit on a monk who has a classic Bentley who talks about how he likes unreliable cars.
@@mrkazman I don't know why some brits like him talk bash about Japanese cars , look at the British brands Land rover it's crap (it still stands because of the Chinese and Indian investors and some rich customers who replace their SUV every 2 yrs) , Aston Martin ( it's still alive thanks to ford) ,MG (they always made crap and it's chinese owned now) , Rover and Triumph (were always unreliable) , Jensen ( death trap makers) , British leyland cars ( rustbuckets on wheels with many mechanical problems) , TVR (some cars were decent but the worst models ever built were from the 70s-80s , the only good company it's Lotus thanks to Toyota & Yamaha engineering and quality assembly , the only brit influence it's the design the rest it's a forged katana built to last .
Anyone else notice technology that we have now that they had then? Touchscreens, in car displays, driving simulators. This literally proves how technologically advanced Japan was and still is
Trust me that phrase is completely B.S, i owned Bimmer E93 335 10years ago, tons of issues, trade it in for a C400, luxury but boring to drive. Now i own a Lexus RX350 and a R34 skyline GTt coupe, never been happier, wont look back at those European cars anymore.
2:42 I've found a favourite album because it has songs that are written on those wheels - "feeling super potential in winter" and "all over physical ironic power"
This looked like it was filmed pre-bubble burst; last time I was in Tokyo (2014) traffic was flowing smoothly at all hours. Mind you, there's also the huge investments in public transport since then as well that makes a car redundant for a lot of people. Add that that the cost of owning a car in Tokyo
Is that bubble affect much to the peoples car ownership or the public transport take them too well so that cars are being abandoned? I heard kei cars are still popular especially in metropolitan area.
Why, or perhaps how is it even possible we are not enjoying Sir Jeremy. He must have turned it down. What this man has done for Britain and British culture……and there is of course a pounds and pence element to this…..cannot be underestimated. Demurred or not, God bless him for so many years of brilliant entertainment. Edit…. He’s not dead, by the way.
70/80/90 And especially the 90 are the golden age of Japanese economy and Japanese car industry A lot would love to live in 90s Japan Its all golden age everything good in Japan was at peak in the 90s
@@aabe4327 its just not a good looking car it just looks like a standard 90s honda or something r 34s and new gtrs look good but then they lack in performance because they've been pretty much the exact same car for several years
