Looking for ideas for how to set up operations on your model railroad layout? Jerry Boudreaux shows us how in this "Part 2" of his "Second Saturday" Zoom layout tour, presented to the fourth division of the Pacific Northwest Region (4dpnr.com) of the National Model Railroad Association (nmra.org) on May 11, 2024. Jerry is an entertaining storyteller, and presents a number of great ideas and insights into practical model train running. After his presentation and a little Q&A, you can sit back and watch a few minutes of trains running on his layout, and imagine being there!
This video is packed with information and useful ideas. For example, Jerry gives a sure-fire strategy for how to switch any town you might encounter in an operating session. He also explains the differences between types of trains that run on a layout, from local switchers to hotshot run-throughs. And he shows a checklist he uses before each op session, as well as the master sheet used during sessions to keep track of who's doing what. And his very clear way of communicating information to help operators locate themselves on the layout, and his laminated train instruction cards. He even has a clever way to laminate cards without buying a laminator! (Use clear packing tape! Why didn't I think of that?!!)
