Great playing, Jerry!! I had a few great, unforgettable lessons from Jerry about 20 years ago at an Aebersold Jazz Camp at Louisville, KY. I'm still working through all his books. Jerry is one of the greatest jazz players and instructors!
I had the great fortune to study with Jerry at the University of TN jazz program. Such a sweet person and great educator. Kinda of an unsung hero. Guy played with Sinatra and pretty much wrote many of the jazz texts that are still useful. We were required to learn Donn Lee in twelve keys. I mastered about three. As a drummer who had to play kit as well as keys, vibes, etc he took it easy on me. He called a key I didn't know and I sheepishly asked him if I could play it in a key I knew. He let me slide. Huge influence on me and so many others. Such gratitude for that program. The great Donald Brown was my piano instructor, Keith Brown was the best drum teacher I ever had. So many great memories from that era. Got to play with Rusty Holloway, Bill Scarlett, and Samurai Celeste was around at the time as well. Lucille's in the old city was where it all went down. Much love for that scene and all those folks.
