That growing, thunderous standing ovation for Carol as she walks down the stairs gives me chills... That's how you show a legend appreciation and thanks.
Thank you so much for posting. I am dancing as the "Japanese Dolly"... I remember tears streaming down y face, as I watched Ms. Channing descend the staircase. She was amazing. Rest In Peace Beautiful Lady.
I had the pleasure to serve as the Talent Coordinator for this show. I will always treasure sitting with Jerry (who passed away today) after the show, reviewing all the performances. Thank you for posting this
Mr. Cramer, Perhaps you can list some of the starts that worked in the show. I do not know who opened the show. They deserve the credits and thank you for your work on this show. Regards KK
@@kstephen7625 Here are some of the other performers: Leslie Uggams, Rita Moreno, Bea Arthur, Dorothy Loudon, Lorna Luft, George Hearn, and Michael Feinstein.
I was lucky enough to do an ad with Carol in the 1980's. She was CAROL CHANNING through and through. She arrived in a full-length red vinyl maxi-coat and gave away toy diamond rings to everyone. Larger than life. Do they make them like this anymore?
Woweee!!! C.C. was 72 when she did this! She still embodied Dolly with so much charm, just as she did almost 30 years prior. By the way, as a performer and drummer who has done many shows, I can tell you that the conductor and orchestra were truly sensational, but it should not surprise me, for this was an extravaganza of the highest caliber. Bea Arthur, Rita Moreno and Leslie Uggams were fantastic. Jerry Herman and cast did a tremendous ending!
Joe Caroselli: You didn't mention Angela Lansbury...Or, was this a different show, and she was not in it??? I remember seeing her first movie, "Gas Light" with Charles Boyea (spelled wrong, sorry) Angela played the part of a very young English house maid. She was only 19 years old for that movie. I was probably 7/8 years old then, and World War 2 was going on in Europe. I've always liked her all these years. I've been watching the old reruns of "Murder She Wrote," six nights per week. I believe Angela is gone now. God rest her soul, and Rest in peace, Lovely Lady.
@@ethelnewberry9296 Angela Lansbury was in "Mame" from 1966. Ms. Lansbury is still very much alive. She is 95, and will be 96 in October. The show and subsequent movie "Gaslight" is the inspiration of that psychological term referring to somebody trying to make another person question their sanity and reality. Yes, Angela was very young when she appeared in that move. Actually she was only 18 and turning 19 at the end of that year...1944.
Genius and how phenomenal that Mr Herman wanted to bring happy songs to shows. How unique. He was the boy genius and after reading his memoir one can’t help feeling the void. Who’s going to open a new window or remember who you are? Kudos and thank you for featuring this.
Wonderful concert!! An amazing and very talented Mr. Jerry Herman , I am grateful for all the songs you wrote and shared them to all the peoples in the world. You will be missed. May you Rest In Peace. I will include you in my prayers. 😘😘😘
She had no voice worth enjoying , but THAT lady was full of PERSONALITY! And she connected. THAT's what counts. Only America could have concocted this showbiz fiction, which enamours our entire planet. IF the Russians could have invented some king of competition , theatrically, then we could all be in peace. Sadly, they are incapable.l
I just saw Carol the ham and she was really great and funny as always Bea was beautiful as ever Rita and Leslie were really great and so were the others. Jerry would hire a bunch of hams for his shows and they got away with it
I viewed the video at the beginning with the sound off. As soon as he pointed in the distance , all I could think of was " Out there, there's a world outside of Yonkers". Of course I was right. I'm NEVER right.
I’m sad. The DVD had an introduction by Liza Minnelli. It was played to the audience before the first performance. The DVD I sadly no longer have and it’s ridiculously expensive to buy 2nd hand. I wish someone could upload that little introduction by Liza, it was really sweet.
Er, ah, (cough)(clears throat) she was singing with Leslie Uggams and to an African American a reference or comparison to “Amos and Andy” is not a compliment, Bosom Buddy or not.
Carol was a Ledgend, but she was not a great singer. Merman was another ledgend, but as a singer, all she had was VOLUME ! STREISAND was a SINGER. THEY couldn't even come close.
