I cannot believe what I'm seeing here,,, a mere 768 views in 7 months (and one of em is mine).... and 5 likes? wtf? Who's playing lead here in only one of the finest bluesmen of all time! I'm truly astonished this great lick has passed seemingly totally under the radar! WOW!
Only guy I've ever seen play the same damn guitar, every day, every night, for 50+ years!! You'd think it would've disintegrated by now. I only got to see it once - a Rhythm Dukes show in St. Louis in autumn of 1969. Looks like they're both still going strong!
Wish I'd been there! I love the way Jerry blends blues, rock, country, and jazz, so seamlessly. And he's been playing the exact same (L-5) guitar for his whole career - an amazing acomplishment in itself!
Yes, Jerry and his oh so venerated L-5: Ain't it grand. I'm sure Jerry has had a name for it, but darned if I can recall. There was a time when that L-5 was stolen. Jerry tasked some guys --who only a masochist would say no to--to get it back for him. It took 'em a while, but they finally found the actual thief--and convinced him, without the aid of the milk and cookies they were packing, to name the fence he'd sold it to. They thanked him by way of recommending a good doctor that the thief suddenly found himself in need of. (LOL) Since there'd been a reward offered for the L-5, they decided to reimburse the fence for his cost of the guitar. And so once again that faithful L-5 was back in the hands that were its only true home. True story!
@@46percenter22 Thank you! I'm sure Beulah is correct. The whole who-dunnit is mentioned in Cam Cobb's book, "What's Big and Purple and Lives In the Ocean?" but it wasn't indexed or I'd have given you the full account. Ever since getting to know Jerry starting in '69, he's had a saying he'd utter with humor if someone was getting too far out of line..."Might have to give 'em the knuckles." But Jerry's always been the mellowest of people and I never saw him raise even one knuckle in anger. (LOL)
Jerry's got so many good people around him, I hope he never has to lift a finger for all he deserves. I'm going to call Bent Bine today to see if he's doing a post pandemic show soon. If not, I'll check his Tacoma haunts.@@markalexander4641
Was a very cool night for music. Jerry and the boys rocked the night ending an all day party of food and music to help the Silicon Valley Blues Society and the Fountain Blues Festival. Jerry Miller, Tiran Porter, Aaron Madsen, "Fuzzy" John Oxindine and Scott Griffin make up the band. Poor House Bistro, very good and supportive of Jerry Miller as well as many, many other musicians. Suggestion..... when in San Jose, always check out the Poor House Bistro for good food and great music.
I used to live with and work for my beloved Grape during the 20 Granite Creek days. We used to get to see Tiran and the Doobs at the legendary Chateau Liberte' in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the stage riser was a foot high, (we, ourselves were usually much higher than the stage) the crowd size was no more than 150 and admission at the door was a buck or two. Life was never better!
