I was at my cousins house as a teen and her boyfriend came through and played this joint on a cassette. I said Wtf is this!? I never heard such rawness on gritty hard drums like that. When he told me, I immediately hopped in my car and went to get it from a record store. Yes a record store right before they started disappearing. 😁
Peace young King 👑 👑 You struck gold with this classic. Primo set it off with the beat!! Jeru definitely one of the most underrated MCs. Gotta have your 3rd eye open 2 understand his lyrics!!!!
2:52 “this is the most non-gangsta gangsta” that’s the perfect summary Bro. Jeru sounded like he actually wanted to shoot people but just mentally lol 😆
This sound at the time was alien to us! never heard anything like it. And when this Joint dropped you absolutely had no choice but to bang your head! Jeru. Killed the game back then! "I don't gang bang or shoot out, bang, bang The relentless lyrics, the only dope I slang I'm a true master, you can check my credentials 'Cause I choose to use my infinite potential Got a freaky, freaky, freaky, freaky flow" Class-sick-ness!
Peace King. Peace to the Family. Fam I couldn't wait for you to get to this one. Another grimey Brooklyn track. Premo produced his whole first 2 albums💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
King Ahmad, you NEVER cease to amaze me my guy! You know how I know you're a True Hip Hop head? You're a young Kat from this generation BUT yet you STILL seem to catch & understand older references from older generations. You know your history, you're aware, you learn & you pay attention! Not that you don't make a few mistakes here & there but that's a part of your growth & training in this Hip Hop knowledge. Unlike other young Kats, YOU ARE Humble & you seem to always learn from your mistakes. You are a worthy student of the culture. You may even fall under the category of a great young scholar. I admire you King. This is a great channel & platform you got here Brotha. You're paying your dues & earning your respect my G! Also, I'm not gonna lie to you but I think you're beyond what I was as a Hip hop head when I was your age. Your awareness, wisdom & knowledge at your age is impressive. You're about in the 24-29 age bracket right Ahmad? How old are you again my guy? I think I remember you saying it in a vid or live stream but I forgot. My Bad. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing King. You a real one Ahmad! Peace. ✌️🕊️
Beats like Biggie's Unbelievable, Mos Def's Mathematics, A.G's Next Level and this one convince me that DJ Premier must be the greatest hip-hop producer oat. I mean, how do you come up with this stuff? 🤯
Bro I was 16 when this dropped...I'm not exaggerating when I say I bumped the shiz outta this..in my boom box in the living..my walk man..and my little radio in my room constantly that year..I think it was 93..this video came on the Box..constantly..great memories man..glad u can recognize the illest hip hop ever written and produced 💯🗨
I'm an ole head and still dj as a hobbie etc with the new controllers etc. This is a classic. Throw it on any party, it's bout to Hit🔥 how do you decide what songs you will be reacting to? You definitely have good taste young homie👌
The Amazing this about Jeru is his unorthodox, measured flow, combined with unexpected word empahsis. ------- In combo with Primo's production was a fresh approach to the producer-rapper combo. -------- The style of Jeru being so unorthodox unleashed Primo's compelete arsenal of beats, samples, ideas. Which is what took Primo from just one in the pack of producers to the tip of the spear in terms of production. -------- Only RZA, Dr Dre, and Pete Rock can even approach his level ofmusial sophistication ------They all took hiphop to levels none of u could have forseen.
The intro of the guy with the dripping water on his forehead that is called Chinese Water Torcher it drives the person it's being done too mad but the "come clean"beat was a real game changer nobody back then never heard anything like this just like The East Flat Bush Project " Tried By 12" beat.
This beat was sooooooooooo bangin and innovative back in the day when it dropped. This beat was bananas! Everybody was sweating this beat back in the day. Sun Rises in the East was a dope album. Check out My Mind Spray!
To sum it up Jeur's style is just so fresh and refreshing at the same time. With the perfect match of musical complexity in the ryhmes as you can find in the music. ------ I've listened to Jeru's first 3 album over 100 times each and they always seem fresh to me and I hear new things that I never heard before. ------ Qudos to any artist who can create art and have it reverberate decades later. ------- Plus some of these songs were in video games. So they live on and on.
To those that didn't catch it a main hook in this song was when the east is in the house was directed at other parts of the country (west coast) trying to disrespect east coast rappers, you know who I'm talking about
I didn't know at the time where the loop was from but recently I found out that it was "Shelly Manne" "Infinity" and the little snippet that DJ Primier used from "Infinity" is only 4 seconds😲 "Infinity" is only about 40 seconds fully but I will never know how Premier pulled it off but I know at the time just before Jeru dropped his first solo album this "Come Clean" was getting crazy airplay on the radio and everybody was playing that one single. That loop that DJ premier created is timeless😁 It's always 🔥🔥🔥
This was the shit back in the day. A song that went hard but was all about peaceful solutions to violent situations. Fuck your 9, and use your mind basically.
Premo has a So Wassup Episode about creating that beat on his channel. It actually wasn't supposed to be finished like that but Jeru liked that Raw style and didn't want any instruments over it. And it's indeed a Sample from a percussion artist
Salute, Ahmad! Love the Jeru review, brother! Premier laced him with the beats for the first 2 albums and that led to 2 classic releases. Check out Da Bichez (not what you'd expect ) and the sequel to that song is on album 2, it's called Me or The Papes. Both are dope songs. You should review the entire 2nd album Wrath Of The Math.
Jeru's second album was better than his first but by 1996 Hip-Hop shifted to something prettier. He got lost in the soft sauce. Shit got real shiny and he was too rugged.
Bonafide New York rap Legend the sun rises in the east is a classic. ✊🏾💯🇯🇲 Check out one day Return of the crooklyn Dodgers 95 1,2 pass it with D&D allstars Bounty Killer featuring Jeru The damaja - suicide or murder
Alright, now you should check out his song "Ya Playin' Yaself" Another banger. Also, check out the Blahzay Blahzay song "Danger" it has Jeru on the hook. Also a banger.
Great Reaction!!! Jeru the damaja, something about them Mc from Brooklyn,,if you feeling this,,"Buckshot"Black moon ,,,how many Mc,,track has this same energy real talk,,
