Pegasus could not have judged jessy by the rarity of his cards, because he gave him these cards. Also when pegasus established his top 5 duelists, he had not seen Jaden yet.
The crystal beast cards chose Jesse, that's why Pegasus gave it to Jesse, so he had nothing to go on apart from that! So it has to be due to the rarity of the cards because no one else could use the crystal beasts
For those that didn't pay attention... pegasus said the the list he made weren't the best duelist... they were his top 5 FAVOURITES.... not best duelists
The problem is, Jaden's deconstruction in season 4 or rather reconstruction shows us, prior to dual acadamy, he was a secluded and resereved kid. His gift or rather ability, made him an undiscovered genius. Who we got in season 4 was always his natural development and real persona, this is only revealed until the faux persona we followed seasons 1-3 was shattered. Someone who was outgoing but still had an attribute of carelessness when it came to recognition, a callback to who he really is. Even his desire to stay red, bc he liked the color, showed his lack for care status. Often irritating his professors and enemies for being a natural born genius, but squandering it, often taking it as a personal offense to their drive and ambitions. When really all of that was just trivial to him. A consequence of his shock therapies and amnesia which did make him happier but dampned his abilities. Combined with neglect, he never really got the time of day to show what he was made of and this shows when he chooses to be solitary in the red dorm, even urging his remaining companion, Banner to pass on. All while , intending to be even more confined by dropping out earlier than his graduation. This is also the same reason, he's not recorded in any archives during Bonds Beyond Time. Aster and Zane go on to be more publicly recognizable. Jaden's true calling was to find and mend duel spirits and people like himself and Jessee. With the obscurity of said "career", his contributions were likely obscure to history ergo paralleling the nameless pharoe. It'd really even be hard to be certain he stayed in said dimension. Not to mention his post as being a deterrent for darkness and the light of distruction aswell as other entities. It took a couple of rewatchings, but it's highly implied after his duel with Yubel, right before the beginning of the 4th season, he and Yubel went off to finish what remained of the LOD. The Fujiwara fiasco highlighted his calling not in just wanting to help spirits and spirit sensitive, but necessitated it.
Johan (Jesse) is always considered to be an equal to Judai. When they duel in their exposition match, he only lost due to his deck not being complete, and even though Yubel was possessing him, I think it's a pretty good way to show they were at least relative to one another. Besides, Kaiser literally considered him the only one worthy to be his final duelist, when he stood right next to Edo the entire season. Don't underestimate Johan, he was one of the best duelist of his time
That’s true but if we take their decks at the end of gx Jesse has no counter to Yubel he could probably do some shenanigans to save himself for a bit but it’s pretty clear Jaden would still win.
Do people play the game? Does no one realize that Crystal Beasts is a busted OTK and Control strategy IRL? They released watered down version of his anime Golden Rule, Conclave, and new Ultimate Crystals, that were still just as strong. Even if Jesse only played one ofs, he can still sht on the rest of the top 5 unless they upgraded their decks to modern support.
@@Scrantonicity2 judging an Anime character based on their deck can never be never accurate. You never know what cards they have in there, what strategy they might implement or what monster may come out during the duel. Anime duels are unpredictable

Very nice, I agree with 1-4. Especially if we go by statements and feats. Though one has to keep in mind that Chazz and Atticus have a massive power up in season 4 and that Jesse is apparently almost equal or equal to Jaden. Also Amon wouldnt even have beaten Aster without BS so I think hes way too high.
@@TheTidusVII Amon did good against Yubel, that is why he is that high, Yubel said that he is strong and can match her even without Exodia. Amon was better than Judai against Yubel (Yubel played with Judai in their 2nd Duel and would have easily beat him in their 1st Duel if it wasn't for Johan's help). Although I agree that Amon's duel against Edo was BS, Edo played good, but every card Amon drew was op and a counter to Edo's play. It was a bad written duel. Fubuki was always strong, it is just that he was almost always playing around in earlier seasons. I think he was only serious against Kaiser in season 2. When he is serious he can give S4 Judai and Fujiwara some hard time, but he overall doesn't have any proofs and good enough feats to be on this list. Creators did him dirty. Manjoume's big power up was also bad written, but even with it, he still lost to Trueman. Manjoume, Edo, Fubuki and Jim would be between 10th and 15th place. Season 4 was pretty bad, there was a lot of bad writing and it kinda ruined scaling. I am glad you agree and understand most of placements. Very small amount of Yugioh fans actually understand scaling and see how forced plot sometimes can be. Some placements are debatable of course, especially 6th - 10th placements. Have a good day.
I think a claim is best backed by evidence in the form of another suggestion. The best duelist in gx by a longshot is Zane, but he had just graduated, so it's unlikely that pegasus knew of him. As for crystal beasts, yes they are pretty bad, but it's par for the course for other decks in gx, making it entirely possible that crystal beasts were enough the be the 5th.
With Jaden and Zane, Jesse Andersen isn't even in the top 5. Zane can even battle Kaiba on the 2nd spot if not being crippled by the effect of Power Bond. Jaden's creativity, contact with the Neo-Spacians, Yubel, and Supreme King blood is just another level
@@Mrryn Just because Aster can defeat Zane doesn't mean Zane can go toe-to-toe with Kaiba. Cyber Dragon Deck OTK by Zane is way better than Kaiba's Blue-Eyes Deck. It's just a match-up thing. However if Kaiba and Aster would duel, its much more creative.

@@Mrryn It's not bias, Kaiba's playstyle and Zane's playstyle are the same. Zane's deck is just more fitting on a straightforward duel. Evident of how he can easily pull off an OTK to Camula if she didn't use underhanded tactics like killing Zyrus. Kaiba is also a straightforward duelist seeing how he prioritizes power levels in his duel. But Kaiba's deck needed more creativity from him to be well utilized. Yugi's Hodgepodge of Deck is well suited to his for Creative Dueling, using Mirror Force, Magical Cylinder, and Magical Hats. Kaiba just needed a more consistent deck for his playstyle.
Sure, Aster even beat Jaden. Still doesnt change the fact that both came out much stronger than Aster after losing to him. Zane doesnt even consider Aster a worthy opponent after becoming Hell Kaiser, only Jaden and Jesse. If you really think about it, Aster is quite literally one of the weaker characters. We know that Jaden and Chazz are stronger. We also know how Jaden called Zane the best after his duel with Yubel (keep in mind that not even Jaden could beat Yubel and that Zane wasnt even aiming to kill Jesse). We also know, that Jesse is in a way considered to be Jadens equal. And honestly, Atticus performance VS Fujiwara was something else. Aster falls off really hard all in all.
Keep in mind: Pegasus' ranking is based on one duel he saw of Jesse BEFORE he got the Crystal Beasts: so a younger Jesse with unknown cards was already on the same level of Yugi and Kaiba. Jesse is easily the most underrated duelists in terms of skill.
Same level of Yugi and Kaiba? 🤓 We are talking about lil Yugi who literally defeated Atem who was manipualting fate. And now ah yes! Kaiba. That dude literally defeated Darkness in GX season 4 which took Jaden and Yubel to work togather, almost lost and had to summon divine neos to defeat darkness.

I'd agree. Jesse is very good and even on par with Judai but he's NOWHERE NEAR Yugi, Seto, or Joey. Those three truly had their skills tested to the max with all of them putting their lives on the line multiple times and at least once each they all lose them temporarily. They were duelists forged in the most dangerous of battles and they rose from the ashes stronger than ever by the end. Jesse still has a ways to go before he can stand toe to toe with the likes of them.
A more likely scenario is that he just went country to country and started with jesse Anderson and basically put him in the 5th spot as a placeholder until he met jaden. Especially since in zexal, they show all the main monsters of past "legendary duelists" and jesse wasn't among the list
He says to Aster "you're in my top 5", not "you are ranked top 5 in the world" There are years between DM and GX, surely there are other pros better than Jesse? Even someone from the DM era? Pegasus is just listing his preferences. These are his top 5 duelists to watch.

The problem is that I don't think Joey deserves to be the third best duelist he does not have any skill almost all of his skills are based on luck, I think aster is stronger than him
Joey's biggest strength is arguably his adaptation, creativity and skill. His luck fucking sucks compared to Yugi and Kaiba who draw whatever they want. Joey even bricks at times and his gambles often dont or hardly pay off (like for example him only getting a 1 or 2 on a dice roll, when 3 and above would have been game). Even Kazuki Takahashi calls Yugi and Kaiba weak compared to Joey.
Top 5 duelists in YGO 1. Yugi 2. Atem 3. Kaiba 4. Joey 5. Mai Marik didn't make this list because had Mai attacked instead of summoning Ra, she would have beat him. Likewise with Joey, had it been a fair duel, Joey would have won. That being said, the real semi-final bracket without plot armor would have been Yugi/Atem vs Seto Kaiba Joey Wheeler vs Mai Valentine Yugi vs Kaiba is predictable with Yugi securing the victory. Joey vs Mai would be rather interesting since both have come a long way since DK.
Pegasus first met jesse playing in a tournament before he got crystal beasts. Pegasus couldn't have judged him on the beasts. Also note that jesse was equal to jaden with an incomplete deck and was out dueling jaden in the tag duel once he completed it.
Pegasus was basing this off of Jesse from a tournament where he won the Crystal Beasts. He only started using them after that tournament and we never got to see what his original deck was. That I feel is what Pegasus is basing Jesse off of, not the rarity of his cards
Only the manga of GX puts some respect on her name. In the manga Jaden aims to be as good as the 4 legendary duelists who are above all: Yugi, Kaiba, Joey and Mai
The thing is, is he talking about Yugi or Atem? Yugi never dueled Kaiba in the anime canon so we don’t know how that stacks. (Many reports say that DSOD is manga canon and not anime canon.) For that matter, Yugi hasn’t had a strait duel with Joey since their training days unless he was the one in the drivers seat when Joey got Red Eyes back. But in either sense, Joey won that duel. If anything, it’s more of an RPS situation. Joey beats Atem, Kaiba beats Joey, and Atem beats Kaiba and even then that’s questionable because of Atem’s powers.

Yeah, it was really sad how much they dropped the ball on Aster after a point. I mean, he defeated the Pro League champion by getting out of an enhanced floodgate situation by countering it with another basically. But yet they made him lose to ridiculous things.

Characters like Jaden and Zane were well ahead of him On a side note, interesting how we got an update on Yugi's design being identical to Atem's rather than a mature version of his high school self (hair and eyes being the most notable differences)
Suddenly remembered a question that I had way back then when I first saw Jesse's Crystal Beast deck. Does he use duplicate copy of his Crystal Beasts or not? No way he just runs with just 7 monsters in that 40 card deck 🤔

I say Jesse is a great duelist but don’t have the drive to win or be great. He okay for fun, he’s smart, his deck acknowledges and help him but to be great isn’t in his sight. Alexis’brother and Zain are the too extreme and Jesse is Aniken, people place the crown on his head, not Jesse himself. So he may not be number 4 at this point and Kaiser raise in power than Jaiden but he is top 10 easily. Question if everyone’s deck was swapped, they had 1 week to practice who do you think would win the most? To me it would go dark Zain because power is everything, Aster because he is shown to play 2 different decks so he is able to adapt. Jesse because he trust his deck. And Jaiden goes 1 or 4, 1 if it’s the beginning Jaiden because his skill isn’t there just his luck but end of series Jaiden is capable, lucky, having fun, the best of everyone.
Well to be fair crystal beasts are hot garbage even by 2007 standards. So Pegasus probably thought “man this kid is able to compete using a deck like that, imagine if he were playing competent cards”

Bro dueling ability jesse can beat joey and Kaiba as well as aster not saying he's better but he's more than capable of getting a W against any of them and thats by sheer dueling ability.
The scene was made to hype Jesse/Johan by Pegassus, so, I think he was pretty serious. And like people already said, he was about to beat Hell Kaiser Zane/Ryo with an incomplete deck. Plus, if we count Jaden, he would be taking Joey place at least.
Nah. I dont even think Johan/Jesse can duel, i mean his cards are colorful.. but has his even got close to top anything?. He's mad hype only. Now Judai/Jaden that boi can cook.
He does have golden rule though (all be it a slightly weaker version) but that's one of the best crystal beast cards and he had it 15 years before it came to the actual game
@@sagenido as a crystal beast main I disagree. I think it is an amazingly powerful card it does finish off the combo and help you summon the big boy, but it is the brickiest of all the spells by far. Too many times have I had it in my hand and unable to use it when I needed it. Of course I have pulled it off but I don't search it unless it's the last one to use now because it's just not useful as often as you would think don't get me wrong I put it in every crystal deck but only at 1 while having three copies so that should tell you what you need to know

Thats filler episode that is cannon. There are several duelist in gx who are clearly better than aster and there are at least 5 duelist better than joey in gx or even more

Agreed cuz honestly without seeing what Jesse's deck was before he got his crystal beads how are we going to sit up here and say that Jesse's the 4th especially with how popular dual monsters is after Yugi and Joey and said okaiba and the battle City stuff the fact that Jesse's not sworn by cameras or interviews it's kind of like hmm interesting or the fact that picks his gave these rare cards to a student and you mean tell me he's not famously known No that doesn't make any logical sense. If anything you got like Mai Valentine you got Rebecca Hawkins And a few other characters from the original Yu-Gi-Oh series before you even bring in the GX characters
Ive had this viewpoint for a while. Joey is actually rank 1. Only dude who plays the game without help from mellenium items, god cards, magical powders, ancient spirits in general.
I mean Kaiba only had Obelisk for Battle City, he’s whooped Joey tons of times without it and almost beat Yugi. He’s definitely better although I prefer Joey
@@Murky_Fitness he doesn’t have a spirit helping him win all his duels like Yugi or Bakura unless you count Mokuba lol and being reincarnated is more of a plot point in some seasons than any kind of help in duels. Now if you were too point out his obvious cheating, the fact he prints cards that only work in his deck and his access to way better cards than Joey you’d have a real argument 😂 but he is objectively better. Joey makes more mistakes, has a track record of losing to him and never lasts as long in story arcs. Joey’s still my favourite though.
