👍👍👍 to Kevin Blue for getting this done by the middle of May with still 3 weeks before the first friendly. Where ever this team can get to by WC 2026, it had to start NOW and Blue got it done. As for Marsch, he has an aggressive approach that will suit Canada. If he can figure out how to get David, Buchanan and others scoring more, Canada is going to cause a lot of countries ranked 10 to 50 problems. And THAT is what we want to see. Sure Canada doesn't have the CBs and MFs to go all the way, but that's ok. Let's just get the most we can out of what we have, which I think is pretty good.
Jesse, you said all of the right things that Canadians want to hear, except when you spoke about "The convelesence of so many things" coming together... I think that you meant to say the convergence of so many things, because 'Convalescence' means "the period in which the body recovers from a serious illness, injury or surgery." Anyway, while I love the fact that you will create a very aggressive pressing style; my biggest concern is that I have heard that your style is to fall in love with that one style & not be flexible in changing styles versus different teams. Sometimes it is better to play a blocking style & counter when possible versus the better teams in the world. Hopefully, you will surprise your detractors & show an intelligence to adjust as needed. It will be tough for an American coach to get fully supported by Canadians. Winning solves that problem. Hopefully you will have a long successful winning career here in Canada! We are all pulling for you!!!
I think Jesse Marsch is the right man for the job: he has something to prove and will want to use 2026 to springboard from there compared to an already accomplished coach. He has experience with our country, coached Montreal, even made an effort to learn French. He at least has some experience from Europe and will work well with Mauro Biello. Being an American he will have that intensity, never surrender, no bs and winning mentality our team needs.
He’s a good hire. Just because he didn’t do too well in the PL doesn’t mean he’s a bad coach, Leeds was already in huge trouble it was going to be 50/50 for any coach there. And in Bundesliga seems like he wasn’t given enough time in the project, they likely got rid of him fast because he was an American coach not starting too well. Either way, I’ve heard him speak multiple times and he has a good attitude towards the game and players. The level of the Canadian squad could be manageable for him to do something good
I have been watching Leeds since 2001 2 years of which have been in the 3rd division. In that time we had a dozen incompetent coaches but this guy was the biggest disappointment by far! I think his tactics were both ineffective and too complex that the players never even got to grips with them after over a year. I will be happy if he proves me wrong, which is not impossible after all he is a good motivator
The problem with Leeds was not with Jesse but with (a) the defense, which he was saddled with and (b) the screaming brain dead bi-Polar Leeds fans, who have ZERO patience and frankly DO NOT understand the fine line between winning and losing for the teams at the bottom half of the table. Had Jesse won or tied the Forest game -- which was well within probabilities -- he might have stayed. The players busted their balls for him, and would have continued to do so. But no.... the fans screamed and yelled and wanted a coach with a Euro accent and got exactly what they wanted and wound up EXACTLY where they deserved given the way they treated Jesse. So I will be SOOOO satisfied if Leeds crashes out of the promotion playoff and winds up staying in the Championship for the next three years. The fans deserve it more than you can imagine.

Yes Leeds is a place that adds pressure on top of coaches and players . . .its a huge club with with huge expectations The problem with Jesse is that he is not a good coach. He never improved a team and never made a team punch above their weight. Only success he's had was at a club that has a squad a cut above the rest of the league (RB Salzburg)
@CodingwithGPT Leeds had a championship roster, with a deficient defense that ownership wouldn't spend to strengthen, coupled with injuries to some of their more grizzled veterans didn't help. Saying Marsch never got Leeds to punch above their weight when you consider they beat Chelsea at home and Liverpool away, it makes you look like your holding on to grievances and don't know as much as you lead on
@ronniethomas8780 I am not sure if we watched the same season. But I do agree that Marsch should not take the lions share of the blame. That goes to Victor Orta the man who hired him and amassed a long series of transfer failures. I will say this for Marsch. The more the season went on the fatter, slower and more unmotivated the squad became. This really hurt after 3-4 years of being the fittest team on the Continent under Bielsa. . . . This also killed all hope as we were supposed to be a high pressing team. As for Chelsea and Liverpool. Yuchel was feeding and on his way out and Chelsea were a mess. Liverpool were also at a low point and still had a dozen chances they managed to miss that night at Anfield
The biggest match at the Copa America for Canada will be against Chile. Chile’s CONMEBOL experience will be up against the raw talent from Canada. Coaching is about even I would say between Gareca and Marsch. Maybe slight edge to Gareca.
As a Leeds fan I have seen some terrible managerial appointments. How Marsch was ever seen as a successor to Bielsa will remain one of the mysteries of the world. He is more of a motivational speaker than a coach with technical ability to improve players. He’s style of play centres on chaos through the middle which at elite club level is a massive failure. It will be interesting to see how he gets on but he should never have been appointed at Leeds. One thing he must do is be a bit more humble in approach. At Leeds he spoke far too much about himself. Far too much ego.
For Leeds it was going to be tough for any coach coming in especially the form, injuries and other issues the club had. He was a gamble to keep them up but ultimately the squad wasn’t strong enough for the PL. They aren’t finding it effortless to get back into the PL either this season
@@sowaveysuyat The problem was that he didn’t have the required skills to improve players. He arrived with no coaching staff. A good seasoned coach would have a team behind him. He is not an elite coach despite what he thinks. He has had a big pay off from Leeds and if he was a coach of some repute, a big club would have taken him. The fact that no club did speaks volumes. Good luck with him.
@@AyubKhan-xz2wv I think it was too hard for him to overturn the [bad] habits of Bielsas style that was engrained in that squad for years, especially defensively… it was too erratic and eventually backfired even for Bielsa.. wasn’t a sustainable style of play for the PL.. some days they’d play great attacking football and then other days they concede goals so easily. Mix that in with Marschs style and it wasn’t a good fit to attempt to change it. Either way you do have some valid points as well, cheers
