Ha wow June 21st Shout Factory released a NEW BLU-RAY version of this! Who knows what discoveries will be made when you're not watching it in 4:3 unchanged fishtank quality! Here's the tweet about it twitter.com/Scream_Factory/status/1671555344999251978 It's USA-only so I can't get it but hopefully i'll be able to watch it down the line somehow. Anyoo enjoy the review!
One of the best aspects of Ventura's heel commentary is that he didn't just shit on the faces, he would say how good they are, what skills they have, what the heels need to watch out for, etc. He also would call out heels when they made mistakes or missed a chance to win the match. A great commentator.
plus he had limits to what he would accept as a heel (which is important when you need to put something over as truly atrocious) and was a consistent character. For instance even when Macho Man was a face Ventura still was a fan. He didn't suddenly hate him
*nerd voice Uhhh...in that episode Homer crashes the cafeteria and gives all the malk to Milhouse BUT in a previous episode of Bart’s first day of school Milhouse introduces himself including that ‘the real type of milk can kill him’ What are we to believe...*snort snort*...that Milhouse somehow lost this deadly allergy Boy I hope someone got fired for that blunder
Thanos= Common knowledge to most people these days, akin to Jedi or a Hobbit. Darkseid= "Who?" to the vast majority of people I wonder if DC executives cry themselves to sleep? XD
@@planescaped Actually kinda bums me out a little, that does. On one hand as an English lad who's collected since the 90's (and still has 90% bagged, boarded and boxed), I'm thinking, good! Finally! It was my boyhood dream that England get more involved in comic book stores and having comic book heroes just like America. I wanted JL and FF and Avengers to be mainstream over here. You know, other than like football, fortnite and tiktok... or in my day, _just_ football. Finally, I'll have people to talk to about story arcs, events and give/receive recommendations. On the other hand... you get everyone giving it the "yea, always been a big fan of Harley Quinn" and "did you know Deadpool breaks the 4th wall?!?" Sounds so petty of me, but... its crazy who gets over to mainstream audiences, and sometimes I feel like having an Alan Partridge "Stop getting Bond wrong!!" outburst sometimes. As for the Kirby thing... don't worry they'll be full of wiki facts and facebook feed stuff to regurgitate about him in the hype build-up to The Eternals.
@@zubrhero5270 That is the price when nerd shit get popular. Its great that more people are showing an interest, but then the reality sets in when they only like it because it is trendy and doesn’t actually want to care about the source which made it awesome. Seriously it disheartening that whenever I have a discussion regarding favorite Avenger villain I am on the receiving end of weird looks when talking about how characters like Kang was the definitive arch nemesis for the team instead of somebody they know like Thanos.
Jesse Ventura also played an awesome role in X-Files as one of two "men in black" trying to supress evidence on UFO sightings. The other "man in black" was played by Alex Trebek.
3:56 Vince didn’t fire him. Jesse has said he quit because Vince wouldn’t allow him to do Predator. Jesse said he can always come back to wrestling, but he’d never get a chance to star in a film with Arnold again.
Actually, it was over SEGA. Predator came out in 1987 and Jesse was still doing commentary through to 1990. That's when the video game issue came up, and Vince dug in his heels, so Jesse left.
As it happened he starred in The Running Man with Arnold and both movies were released in 1987 (which I imagine he wouldn’t have got the part if they weren’t in Predator together and presumably predator was filmed prior to The Running Man) I guess he would get another chance.
Happy New Year! Ever wonder why, after Running Man and Predator, Jesse Ventura didn't become a major action star? OSW Review HD what conspiracies did Jesse make false claims about exactly? You guys crap on any and all conspiracies because you are too scared to publicly admit any conspiracies yet to be exposed by the mainstream media to be true on your show even if the evidence is readily available. How about it 2021 and going forward just not even mentioning conspiracies or peoples beliefs on certain topics to avoid coming across as ignorant sheep or offending the intelligence of many of your viewers. You can be well educated but if what you were taught was a lie then you are truly only a dumbed down smart guy.
Jesse Ventura a bit mental with the conspiracies?? He's actually pretty observant and has good logic & reasoning skills. He's our modern day Renaissance Man!
Actually, it wasn't the blot-clot that ended his in-ring career. That was temporary. He was cleared to wrestle again, hence tagging with Macho in subsequent years. But he'd already found a much more comfortable, easy-schedule, non-bump-taking job as commentator and simply chose to stay with that. He didn't have to be on the road, do house shows, or take bumps. Jesse preferred being a commentator.
Jay.... what does it feel like to be such a genuinely happy person with friends that truly like you, appreciate you, and enjoy your company? Bless you buddy... Some people really win in life, and you’re absolutely in the top category there.
I appreciate the kind words mate. Em, just because we don't address sadness, lonliness, depression etc on the show, doesn't mean they don't exist. But that's not the point of the show - OSW is here to make people's day brighter, not burden you with personal problems 💚 p.s. That said, seeing the lads is usually the highlight of my week! They're very funny, snarky, salty and overall lovely to be around. I'm very lucky to be doing what I love with the people I enjoy spending time with most 🙂 lots of love, Jay
@@bigbubble6883 I'm not understanding why you're mad at my comment OSW call themselves racist every other episode OSW make racist jokes every episode Yet I playfully add that being openly racist adds to their appeal and you want me to hurt myself Get off your high horse kid
Anti Life justifies my hate for this movie. Anti Life equation is what Darkseid seeks to dominate the DCU. This movie is the first to mention it on screen. This movie is a DCEU movie.
I was at SummerSlam 1999 in St.Paul, Minnesota and was right up along the entrances way, I got a few handshakes. It maybe wasn’t one of the best SummerSlams or PPVs that year but it was fun and i sort of stopped watching and keeping up with it around late 2000 early 2001, so anything beyond that I don’t really know outside or vids like these. But I was there for the Monday Night Wars and I got to see WCW Nitro 3 times and WWF Raw 3 times in person live between 1996-1999, it was awesome and then to realize it was like the peak golden era of sorts. Especially when I think of all the legends and new gen attitude or peak nWo era wrestling, when even the cute girls at school were wearing Austin 3:16 and DX shirts, it was brilliant lol, and Jesse was surprisingly an actually decent governor for his time. Anyway thank you so much for the awesome content.
Jessie was great at playing larger-than-life, big, boisterous characters because that's what he was as a wrestler. He flopped when trying things more complicated than that. But damn did he play that one role great, I wish he'd been in more over-the-top 80's action movies as a side character.
21:14 - Jay, I'll always appreciate your Futurama references even if the other hosts no-sell them. The only thing I knew about Abraxas before this was "Jesse Ventura falls in love with a small boy". Interesting to know that this was the reason his acting career went downhill too.
If it was the old days, I'd get an OSW tattoo so you'd review either the film "Houseboat Horror" or the glories of the American Womens Wrestling Federation......
Watching OswReview and Jesse Ventura on New Years Day will turn you into a God damn sexual Tryanosaurass. Thanks Boys from The red, white, and blue brother!
The 2009 Josie Ventura Post raw was my first live WWE event in Hershey Pennsylvania. Remember my dad telling me about all the heat between Vince and Ventura before that was announced then we both were just shocked that they would bring him back
OHHHH LADS! Ever since Brian Zane reviewed this movie *years* ago on Wrestling With Wregret, Ive wondered how an OSW Review of this movie would go - TIME TO FIND OUT 😊
SAME! I’ve been waiting to see this comment lol bzs horrible wrestling movie reviews are AWESOME. I’ll watch his review of *just another romantic wrestling movie* once in a while for a smile 😂😂
This was an exceptional video. Jesse Ventura is one of the all time greats. He has to be a legendary boy. This was so enjoyable to watch. Loved the retrospectives to bits.
12:02 That is NOT from T2. That is from Mallrats, Kevin Smith's second movie. Also of note: Jon Huber's wrestling name, Brodie Lee, comes from it. Jason Lee plays a character named Brodie.
I wish people respected Jesse more in the states for his mayoral accomplishments. people under his term received money at the end of the year because the city had a surplus of cash. he is also a libertarian and supports people over big government. my parents still talk about him till this day saying they wish he was still in office. edit: also, out of anyone shilling out conspiracy theories, I'd believe him over any other one considering his military and political career, he definitely saw and knew of some shit.
Schwarzenegger and Belushi did Red Heat (1988), so there were probably some introductions made and networking done there that landed Belushi in this dirty diaper of a movie.
I just realised Lance Storm is the son of the carney in that Simpsons episode, and the start of this movie is the plot for the Woodland Critter Christmas South Park episode 😂
I just discovered "Day of the Warrior" featuring one Mr. Marcus Bagwell in a sea of fake knockers including a former American Gladiator. If that doesn't sound like an OSW goldmine than I don't know what does
I’m surprised they didn’t get sued by DC comics with the antilife equation thing. In DC comics, an eternal galactic despot named Darkseid, a new god and ruler of Apokolips, a war planet essentially made of fire and torture named Darksied is constantly searching for the anti-life equation. Basically Darkseid is DC comics Thanos, and the antilife equation is his infinity gauntlet.
as easy as it is to dunk on Ventura's conspiracy theory side-gig, he really did end up being the best governor that the state of Minnesota ever had. he ran independently, significantly boosted the state's economy, laid the groundwork for a substantial light rail system and terrified the two-party system with progressive stances on gay rights, abortion rights and marijuana legalization as early as 1999. this was hilarious, but I miss the fella.
I love how Jesse Ventura is wearing a Plato’s Retreat shirt in some of the clips at the beginning of the retrospective. That place was a sex club in New York City that was shut down for health violations. It had a buffet out in the open that probably had all sorts of bodily fluids near and on the food.
@@OSW From what I seen from the news reports of that time period it looked like a seedy 1970’s porn set with hot tubs and a random “tossed salad” BAR in the middle of it all.
I went to the Wikipedia page and found a couple of choice passages about the place. Plato's Retreat was a "members-only" establishment that required everyone to follow the club's rules. Levenson barred male homosexuals, and accepted only straight couples - and women, escorted or otherwise - in the premises. Once a woman left a room after a sexual encounter, her male companion had to accompany her within two minutes. This rule was intended to ensure that women nearly always outnumbered men. Levenson strictly prohibited sexual activity between males but welcomed lesbians. Drugs, including alcohol, and prostitution services were forbidden, though, by subsequent accounts, prostitutes did frequent the premises and there was "rampant" use of drugs (most often quaaludes) by patrons. Owner Levenson often partook in sexual activity on the premises, once winning a bet against Al Goldstein and 'Butch' Katz, owner of 42nd Street's Roxy Burlesk theater, that he could ejaculate fifteen times within a twenty-four-hour day. In 1985, New York City Mayor Ed Koch backed the New York City Health Department's decision to shut down the city's gay bathhouses, in response to concerns over the spread of HIV/AIDS. In closing the gay bathhouses while allowing the heterosexual swingers' clubs - most notably Plato's Retreat - to remain open, the city found itself in violation of the newly adopted anti-discrimination law. The Health Department, with Koch's approval, reacted by ordering the heterosexual clubs, including Plato's Retreat, to close as well. The club's Manhattan location was shut down on New Year's Eve 1985, ostensibly for violating public-health ordinances.
Jesse is the greatest commentator of all time with the possible exception of The Brain but I honestly can’t even pick between the two. He made early pay per views 100 times better.
Sven's head 🤔🤣🤣🤣 love it Brian Zane did this aswell but you're just as good Ur hilarious guys love your show been watching for yrs my old account Shawn Smith got taken down lol so I'm here under my mum's last name now lol
Apparently Arnie was offered the role of Abraxas, but turned it down and opted to do Terminator 2 instead and Jim Belushi did this film as a favor to his then-wife Marjorie Bransfield, who plays Sonia.
@@JPS47 I find them fascinating in fairness, regardless of how true they may be - but you are right you could argue some of it has its foundation in truth. A lot of the rest of it though? Jaysus
Film producers: "Hey, lets get Jesse Ventura one of the most charasmatic people in the history of wrestling! The perfect role for a guy like that is an emotionless terminator!"
Couldn't watch. Box has VD. You know, I've always been curious about what kind of job he actually did as Governor of Minnesota. Can any Minnesotans illuminate this?
Minnesotans typically have nice things to say about his time as governor. Though they’re basically Canadians, they typically have nice things to say about everything and everyone lol
