This book is one of the best things Bendis has written. I know that's the popular thing to say, but man...it's true. I know Bendis has his quirks, but I actually like his down-to-earth dialogue and his more mundane stories (except his "Avengers" stories were a little too mundane). But "Ultimate Spider-Man", "Daredevil", "Alias", "Defenders", "Batman: Universe", and, yes, even parts of his "Superman"/"Action Comics" run are some of my favorite comics. Really looking forward to this Omnibus.
I know his Superman run gets a lot of (deserved) hate, but I really enjoyed Book 1 and love the conversation Superman had with Martian Manhunter. Mainly how he had to keep cutting him off so he could quickly save people worldwide.
This was one of the first comics I read that got me into comics. Really enjoyed this series when I first read it digitally. Might just have to pick it up.
I read volume one in TPB years ago and loved it - I'll be ecstatic to continue the rest of the run in this awesome oversized format. Can't tell which cover I like more, though. Decisions, decisions...
Bendis gets a lot of criticism from fans (some of it's valid... a lot isn't) but his Alias and Daredevil runs were outstanding. I've missed out on this omnibus before, really glad it's going to be back in print.
I am no Bendis fan but I loved this series. I wonder why they aren't really reprinting his New Avengers and the like though as that seems to have so much more for the Marvel Universe and needs a full omni run.
Thanks for the video. Have been waiting for this reprint for years. I'm mostly done with Marvel books. This is one of only few that is mature and interesting enough to stay on my wishlist.
I preordered this book like a year ago, it feels like. This cover as well. Glad I preordered this as a lot of Omnis, just good books in general are coming out this day. Great review, as always
Im glad I chose this version it's beautiful and I love the artwork on the spnine a lot more! I'm so happy they went back to the Alias title on the cover and spine, it was written "JESSICA JONES" and I wasn't on it. I can't wait to deep dive in that story!
Marvel needs to do an omnibus of the follow up series and maybe The Pulse as well. I’ve had this omni for a long time and it’s time to collect the rest.
I really like the DM cover, but I'm glad to already own this. I made sure to buy it at a good price on eBay even though I knew it was getting reprinted, just because I preferred the title to be simply "Alias". I'm a weirdo like that.
Nah, I get you. I'm glad they didn't alter the title and spine too significantly and the Max branding made it, but I'm happy I bought this when I did. Good that other readers aren't having to overpay to get this in their collections though.
After reading Punisher & Wolverine Max I am hooked on reading & collecting 'em all! I only just found out that there's a 3 issue Black Widow Max out there too,MUST HAVE!
Sensational book. I originally got the 4 trades and replaced them with the second edition of the omnibus. It's a shame the paper quality seems to drop a bit in later editions, but I would not hesitate to buy this one if I hadn't already gotten it back in the day :)
I'm excited for this. I missed out on the last printing because i kept putting it off until "next paycheck" for about 4 months lol. Remember when you could wait that long? Haha
I’ve heard this is a great run but I haven’t read any of it so I’m definitely looking forward to getting my copy in the mail. Bendis’ Daredevil run is one of my favorites & from the looks of it this has some similarities. I ended up ordering the DM cover but both look good. I love gritty crime stories so this looks right up my alley. Excellent overview Omar, much appreciated. Take care.
I enjoyed Bendis Daredevil run and a fan of noir stories with Brubaker one of my tops for crime series. Thinking about the show too I know I will enjoy this. Bendis works for me haven't read everything but his Miles Morales, Daredevil, Naomi and Batman Universe were on point for me
This is a great omni..I'm glad they reprinted it. And it's actually not to thick or unwieldy so it's easy to read. I hope they collect the Jessica Jones 2016 series in oversized format as well. The Pulse stories are totally forgettable & unremarkable so I hope they don't combine them in one volume and totally ruin the vibe. I'm surprised they didn't combine the Alias Max Series' (28 issues) and the JJ series (18 issues) into one Omni (since they combined the titles of both for tgis new printing).
The artwork and the talking heads has left this on my to read shelf, constantly being bumped back in my reading list. I struggled with the talking heads in Bendis' Daredevil run. Kind of the reason I put it down after a while. I'll have to pick both back up for a read as sounds like the stories are great.
Sometimes Bendis's writing doesn't grab me, however I absolutely LOVED his run on Daredevil - One of my favorite reads of the last decade. How does JJ:Alias compare to that?
I triple-dipped & preordered the latest printing based on the solicitation showing the large Jessica Jones logo rebranding, so I’m disappointed they reduced this to the small typeset. I can understand that the Alias title needs to be retained though. At least I have a new DM cover!
0/10 will buy with the new spine design of this omni and it not saying “Max omnibus”!! (/sarcasm) Great series and great overview! Hopefully this can bring us those Punisher Max Omni’s that have been long OOP! :) You’re the man, Omar. :D
Great Video! Omar - Back on 9-1-2020 You, Melanie and Maddie did an ORNR on Absolute Sandman Volume 1. Have you ever done videos on the remaining volumes?
I'm pretty sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but the writing in Alias was uninspired and trying too hard to be edgy. I was a little worried going from this to Bendis' Daredevil, but thankfully Daredevil blew this out of the water. Happy for everyone that's looking to pick this up but for those who have never read it, I'd urge you to read it digitally first.
Fair. There's definitely elements that can inspire that feeling (having Jess Drew say 'bitchcakes' sure is a...choice). What's a good Bendis mention without polarizing opinions anyway?
This is completely unrelated, but since it hasn't been raised on any of the Saturday streams yet: has there been any consideration of any more Namor omnis (and specifically a Silver Age Namor omni) for Q4 2022 between the character's involvement in Black Panther 2, 2022 marking the 60th anniversary of his first Silver Age appearance, and all of the Silver and Bronze Age Sub-Mariner MMWs that have already been produced?
@@NearMintCondition I would also strongly recommend brainstorming with him a modest Iron Man omni reprint and new Iron Man/War Machine omni publishing campaign for Q4 coinciding with Armor Wars' ostensible release (which won't start shooting until 2022 and also likely not to drop until Q4) that could justifiably serve as a soun=d water tester opportunity to gauge current interest in Iron Man both other and better than Slott's run. (Were this to be considered, my vote would be for reprinting the Michelinie, Layton, & JRJR V1 omni, collecting Fraction's Iron Man in a single omni, and then either a one-and-done War Machine omni or spate of Epics and Complete Collections, and then should enough of those and the 2022 SA omni reprints perform well enough, a SA Iron Man V1 omni reprint in 2023 to complement Iron Man's 60th anniversary.)
Well it should arrive next week finally but I am glad for it... since the comics have been largely boring just a lot of omnis to collect that I have been enjoying. Want a rreprint of Runaway's it is getting pricy
The artwork and the talking heads has left this on my to read shelf, constantly being bumped back in my reading list. I struggled with the talking heads in Bendis' Daredevil run.
