For me she was the best vocalist in snsd. She has a real control of her voice, a mix of powerful and angelic voice. I say the best because her voice is not like the others.. It's different.
I totally agree her voice is very unique and unlike the other girls/any other K-Pop star I've heard. Jessica had a beautiful charm to her that made SNSD so beautiful and unique and it made them stand out. I feel like when she got kicked out of SNSD the group has lost it's sweet and unique charm.
it makes me sad to know she didn't feel confident in her voice :( like she said "i just like to sing, taeyeon is the real singer" even tho she was probably just trying to be humble i think she really believes that she could never be as good. but the truth is she could've been that kind of vocalist too. but i agree with you. i like that her voice is different. she has a special charm about her.
@Lady Moonlight not for everyone ^^ Taeyeon did playback too. Not only Jessica ^^ she has lost confidence but she is an excellent vocalist. She has lost some technique it's normal she is busy with her brand too but her albums are always on point
@@arieam am I the only one that think she was being humble?! When she was asked if she's the best singer! She'll probably look arrogant if she says yes
Aika Ai I think she really thinks that she's not good. Coz I remember watching a video clip where tiff said that Jess cries because she's not really good at singing when Tiff think otherwise. I can't really remember what tiff exactly said but it's something like that
She has the unique voice, no one can beat her for that. Soft, soothing, and angelic! Gahh I miss her voice 😭😭😭 Thank you for making this compilation of her best vocal performances! ❤ I'd love to see more of this in the future! 😍
Seriously her voice is not nearly as ‘thin’ or ‘faint’ sounding live as it always sounded in the studio versions of SNSD songs or even her own songs. She has also has a powerful voice, especially when belting.
right! i really wish she'd use her natural tone more. she uses her airy/angelic tone a lot these days, and in snsd, bc it was so popular and recognizable, i can imagine that sm nudged her in that direction to differentiate and compliment her voice with taeyeon's. i wish she did more songs with her powerful voice. summer storm is probably the closest we've gotten to it, but even the studio version is not even close to how great she sounds live.
@@arieam golden sky live is close too. Summer storm is close but she uses a lot of soft airy adlibs and her high note in the studio ver is not very open compared to her live. She definitely can sing powerfully but she prob is more confident with her unique angelic tone
She has power in snsd songs. People usually think it's not her singing because they're used to hearing a certain style but if you go and listen carefully you'll hear her more.
I was afraid cause it seems like when she's belting some notes she's gonna crack or something. But she really did improve compared to her later years in snsd, she seems so uninterested in singing.
A lot of people say she's the most unique sounding singer in K-pop, but even her covers of English songs prove she has one of the most unique voices of all time, period. There's no other singer like her. She has this crystal clear & extremely resonant tone, can sing high notes, can emote well, she can do Pop, she can do R&B, it's perfect.
1) She never afraid of looking bad (open mouth, swing head, etc.) when singing. What a passionate! 2) Blocked by SM Entertaiment along with JYJ (most talented boygroup in KPOP history), which means no doubt she's telented as well. Afraid of their idols being defeated by the real talent. 3) She's not only beautiful or wonderful. Her aura, her beauty, her smile, her gaze, her shape, her voice, the way she walked, the way she spoke, the way she dressed, the way she sang, the way she danced, just phenomenal. She's just MAGICAL. MAGIC is the right compliment to be given to her. 4) Leave SM Entertaiment is THE GREAT DECISION she ever did. Well done Jessie! You deserve all in front of you todays.
@@resurgingflame some sources from long time ago, can't even remember but I'm sure that MANY SONE'S knows that as well. I'll not say it if i didn't saw it from posts/articles.
She had the second best mix in SNSD after Taeyeon, the second highest range after Sunny, and, contrary to popular belief, the best lower register (or tied with Tiffany). Jessica was a main vocal for a reason, and a main vocal under SM at that. People act like it’s foolish to say she was the best singer in SNSD when Taeyeon is there but it’s not that far fetched. Jessica was the second strongest all-around vocally and it wasn’t that big of a difference from first. Especially considering that Taeyeon has improved a lot (even though she was always good) since Jessica left the group. Now, Taeyeon is definitely stronger as she continues to extend her supported range, and improve her control and consistency across her whole range seemingly every year. Unfortunately, we have barely been able to see Jessica sing since 2014 so many people even claim she has gotten worse but I don’t think that is the case. It’s such a shame she didn’t get to continue in SNSD and get to promote solo under SM where she would have been pushed even more like Taeyeon rather than blacklisted. Edit: All of this said, I am glad she is no longer stuck in someone else’s big-mini world.
people really think not doing highnotes all that often means shes not a strong vocalist. its funny bc the problems we see now were problems we saw when she was in snsd but she was still considered the 2nd best vocalist. if jessica put more work into her vocals she could've been the best vocalist, but i don't know what happened to her, if she didn't want to or if she lacked confidence or what, but it's still not some ridiculous idea. even now, her vocals have not declined, actually i think there are time she's shown growth. the problem is she doesn't do the kind of music taeyeon and tiffany and seohyun do, and because of that their fans just automatically think jessica's bad now. it doesn't make sense. tiffany and seohyun were singing like that before jessica was forced out of snsd and yet she was still considered 2nd best because vocals are more than just hignotes. i wish jessica had taeyeon's passion for music, i wish she had tiffany's work ethic when it comes to her vocals, but jessica still does a lot and you can tell she has maintained her instrument, she just needs that extra push to do more with it.
arieam I agree, Jessica’s vocal talent would have been undeniable like Taeyeon if she had Tiffany’s drive and work ethic. I don’t think she’s lazy either, she’s clearly not lazy. You cannot achieve as much as Jessica has and also be lazy. I think she maybe just felt contempt with her abilities, especially while in the group because she was already the 2nd best and always said ‘Taeyeon is the real singer’ anyway. Tbh I think there was always a slight confidence issue which prevented her from even trying and it’s even possible that she didn’t realize she could improve more with consistent practice. I also agree about Tiffany and Seohyun, as people seriously exaggerate how much they have improved. Tiffany has improved but not significantly, she has just set her solo work in a far more comfortable range and her voice is no longer being so overworked as before. She still tends to use the same techniques she always has and still supports the same. Seohyun has also improved, but imo, she has actually improved the least out of TTS. Seohyun was only a little bit less good when they debuted than she is now, and she was only 16 at the time. For some reason, people just never realized how good she was until later. Taeyeon, on the other hand, has improved the most out of all SNSD members since debut and people just stick to the ‘but she was always the best’ narrative. Really, around debut, Jessica was a better vocalist than Taeyeon but Taeyeon had the better, bigger, more impressive 5th register belt so her vocals got the most attention. Taeyeon used to have an inconsistent technique and her only real strong point was her great mix/belt register(which was still sometimes inconsistent). Her head voice was decent and her lows weren’t very good. By 2014, she had already improved quite a bit with her technique and consistency but since going solo she has come a long way. She has expanded her supported range on both ends and her mix is much more balanced, resonant and is very consistent now. Her head voice is stronger than before, and her lows are nearly as good as Tiffany and Jessica now. But so many people only see vocals as just being good at high notes so most of that is overlooked by the casual fan because they remember Taeyeon has always done high notes. Sorry, I didn’t mean to talk so much about SNSD members under a video about Jessica. I don’t think Jessica has vocally declined but it’s just that she hasn’t seemed to improve much either. Even with that, I still think she remains the 2nd strongest from the group, but I hope she would find the motivation to improve further in the future because it’s never too late.
@@foreverinsfired I strongly agree that many people tend to focus more on the high notes. It's kinda disrespectful when others say this singer is better because their vocal range is higher. Also agree that Taeyeon has improved the most, it's scary how much she has improved even though she was already very talented, just lacked her consistency with the higher pitch notes which is why Jessica usually does them in the group songs. They both were the duo that carried their songs well. When she left, TTS had to step up and they sure stepped up strongly. I do however say Taeyeon was still the best at the time but not by as much as people feel, mainly because she had more solo opportunities to showcase what she can do back then, with her OSTs and her performances on music shows, plus everyone in SM already regarded her so highly because of her achievements prior to her debut and her showcase. Jessica's importance to the group back then is often ignored though, that I can agree with. And I had hoped she improved as much as the others, though it's understandable considering she has a business to run. I'd put Tiffany and Seohyun above her as of this moment, though she could just be holding back on her performances as well. Hopefully she doesn't stick to her comfort zone.
@@xKayNee yeah idk why I said Jessica was better than Taeyeon around debut bc that’s not true but I think I meant that Jessica was the most well-rounded at that time, admittedly a short period of time though. Taeyeon was always the best, but like you said it really wasn’t by as much as people tend to think it was back then. Also, I can definitely agree w putting Seohyun above or equal to Jessica now, but not Tiffany. Don’t get me wrong, I love her voice and she’s the reason I looked into the group but she still struggles and strains a lot on passing notes (B4/C5) that Jessica usually supports well and seldom strains on even these days. She’s also overly pushy and doesn’t use a good coordination in her mix the way Jessica and Seohyun do. Actually, _very_ recently (as of 2021), Tiffany seems to have improved her placement a lot but this is just based on a few performances so idk how consistent this change is yet, but it’s exciting and definitely a step in the right direction. Tiffany is still better than the average kpop lead vocalist tho so it just goes to show the talents of the group, Jessica included.
the whole video really makes me crying. everytime i hear jessica singing i'm crying, there's no singer who makes me like this lol. she's my very first ultimate bias and i can't find someone like her. truly the voice of an angel
You can tell she wants to take it easy with the singing and not go all out. It's all good, she got other things to do 😊. ☄GOLDEN STAR fighting and waiting lolz❤☄
Even though i haven´t loved the path she has taken with her music, she´s still my favorite voice in the whole wide world. It´s so unique and beautiful.
im the same way. i'm really looking forward to her next comeback but in all honesty i'm hoping she makes a complete 180 music wise. less disney more dangerous woman
I miss this, when she was in snsd she was so uninterested in singing im happy to see her enjoying singing again. Finally she can do what ever she wants. .
the more i see her sing solo the more i realize someone in sm told her she wasn't good enough. she could've been even better if they didn't demoralize her. and it makes sense to me that it was 2014 that she started being more confident in her vocals when she was getting some freedom working on her business and a subunit.
because she doesn't attempt harder vocals than the other vocalists. which is true, i just can't stand that ppl think shes now a worse vocalist when its not true...
Jessica and Taeyeon are equal. Hands down. SM didn't let us hear her powerful side because SNSD already had too many strong, darker voices (TTS), which is why she didn't get as many powerful strong parts as Taeyeon. I still really miss Taengsic and OT9 so much though. SONE Forever!
