Jesus said I am the bread of life (Jn 6/41-51) Fr. Dr. Patrick Merceline D’Souza
Please read this entire passage (Jn 6/41-51) from the Bible or from Google so that you will understand the reflection better.
John reports: “So, the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
When Jesus emphatically said that he was the bread that had come down from heaven, the Jews grumbled about him. Their argument simply was this “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
What they were basically saying was that Jesus was an ordinary person just like any other person there where Jesus was residing because they had known Jesus for considerable time, and they knew that he was the son of Joseph and that they had known his father and mother.
