You need to check a Japanese startup, PD Aero Space( PDエアロスペース ). They have created and bench tested a pulse detonation engine that can switch between air breathing and rocket engine with a flip of a switch. They are planning to field test the engine this year.

The higher the speed the harder it's to manoeuvre and control.

Love your videos! As a request to add onto this video, can you do a video or short clip on the SABRE rocket engine that's been in development?

apologies,@@davidste60 I meant more of a full video, as there is very little information available that we can find on it. Honestly a SSTO engine deserves some attention IMHO.

@@dreamersbasics7713 They've been working on that engine for a long time and a case can be made that it's vaporware. I hope it isn't.

It's chimera with a k sound. A chimera is a mix of different animals.

Chimera is not pronounced like SHIM-MURRA. It is pronounced like KAI-MERE-AH (KAI = K+EYE, MERE = M+EAR), in reference to the hybrid animal/woman monster from Greek myth.

born @ Eglin AFB in 52 sonic booms were an everyday occurrence, if not more frequently. can't say as they ever bothered me.

I was born in 53 and grew up within a few miles of Paine Field AFB. I remember hearing sonic booms more often when they got the F106's. The booms didn't bother me either.

Taking advantage of "Ideal gas law" to improve thermal efficiencies is perfect. No part is the best part.

How do you power a jet with electricity? Spin the turbine with a motor? 🤔
@davidste60

Spin the compressor with a motor. I'm not sure a turbine would be needed necessarily.

Jet are impossibly impractical to power with electricity - the only possible way to generate the necessary power is nuke, and that's just not something you wanna fly around - let alone that plasma turbines are only theoretical atm

I think Starship will be a relatively inexpensive way to fly a long distance in a short time.
@stocky9218
@stocky9218 5 месяцев назад
Potentially, but it can’t make use of the pre-existing infrastructure of airports. It’s co2 emissions would probably be substantially higher too if you care about that
@scorpio6587
@scorpio6587 5 месяцев назад
@@stocky9218 I don't see how using airports is relevant to rockets, and the CO2 argument lacks foundation and relevance. I'm looking forward to supersonic commercial travel becoming available again.
@stocky9218
@stocky9218 5 месяцев назад
@@scorpio6587 Sorry man, I just meant where would it land, how would passengers exit the ship and how would the passengers get to their destination from the landing sight which can't be near populated areas. Infrastructure is important and if you can't use pre existing infrastructure like airports then its going to be very difficult. As for emissions of course it has relevance, I don't know if you live under a rock but the aviation industry is very caught up in reducing emissions especially for passenger flights. I love starship and it would be cool to see passenger flights but supersonic/hypersonic planes are a much better option for many reasons especially because they can and will use pre existing infrastructure.
