Nice job on the video again! Though you know I have always used that Jetboil canister base thing without any problems for 15 years. I guess it's because I've always used Jetboil brand canisters and they just drop right in easily and securely. This year I bought a canister-transfer tool so I can refill my little Jetboil cans from one big cheap canister of fuel. But also .. to save weight I use the BRS stove mostly and none of the Jetboil bulk and weight, as I now carry a chair.
Someone on facebook just mentioned the jetboil fuel thing with the base. My local stores don't carry jetboil fuel so I've never used the official brand fuel for it that's why I had no idea their own canisters are shaped differently. Either way its still a design flaw as they could easily fit all canisters if they changed it a bit. I'm testing a brs right now, looking at alcohol stoves and others. I was tipped onto the jetboil Stash as well which is a much lighter version of the flash. What pot do you use with your brs?
I haven't tried it out yet, but my assumed best setup with a jet boil is the premium dehydrated food and coffee. If you're actually cooking and not just boiling water go with a more flexible setup.
I have been using the Primus Lite for a while and it's a very good competitor to the Jetboil imho. It is about the same weight and boil time, but it is more windproof and a bit more stable, burner is easy to connect and piezo is still ok. It can simmer and it's (slightly) cheaper as well 😉
I have never boiled over 4 or 5min on the jetboil flash my fiancee owns. 90seconds max! We dont back pack with this and it isnt our goto. Its mainly for boiling water on car camping or traveling. The msr pocket rocket with titanium pots and trangia stove (alcohol burner and gas burner) systems are more or less my personal goto favorite cook systems for back packing, car camping/base camp. My credibility is something important to me. I was raised to be honest and a man of my word, with that said I just pulled out the jetboil boiled 1L of water as stated in my video out on my deck to mimic the same conditions I use it in the mountains. 4 degrees C which is very similar to many of my trips this year, it boiled 1 L of water in 4 minutes 38 seconds. You might be getting that 90 seconds if you boil the jetboil half filled. I had the gas opened full too and there was zero wind with my test, the wind only reduces efficiency.
@@IdRatherBeHiking yes half filled so 4min past that is still impressive for time. Ill have to give that a try up here and see what times I get, and at our elevation. Here in Northern Canada east of the Rockies and windy. -45°c for temps. The jet boil flash is still impressive for boiling. Id almost argue there isnt anything quite like it. Its downfall is being bulky and lack of simmering capabilities Id argue. All in all I enjoyed your videol! It was well organized and really does touch on the flashes key points both for pros and cons 👍 I subscribed to your channel to check out future videos. Impressive you have over 300videos! 👌
I agree with all your points except the base. I have no problems getting mine on. You said you think you have to have it bent to put it on. That's not true, and maybe contributes to your problem. Now to get it off, I have to bend the first leg and it pops right off. Thanks for a good video
@@IdRatherBeHiking I’m yet to notice any, although I haven’t used it in strong winds. Used with the smaller pot/cup from the Soto combo set & the lid from the Soto river pot gives a really compact cooking set up.
ive had mine for about 3 years and still love it my burner melted unfortunately but i replaces it with a different burner from walmart it works but like you said the burner was fiddly and annoying. the base i never had trouble putting it on but i do have a bit trouble taking it off a bit. its speed is amazing along with everything else
I had been thinking a jetboil might be a good addition to my car camping setup, but after this, I think I'll pass. Sounds like they are living on their name. I've just been using the butane stove I've had for years and is now not always connecting the cans of butane up properly, so it's time for a new stove. Also, butane just seems to take longer to boil water. Still looking, but am thinking a single burner dual fuel stove may be what I need.

@@IdRatherBeHiking How is the stability of these? I look at them and think they are top heavy when the pots full, which might make them tippy. I car camp with a dog and cat so am always conscious of them knocking stuff over. Especially my crazy cat, lol!
@@HoneyandMe Using the stand they are very stable without the stand not stable at all. I only cook on teh back of my CRV so if it were to spill it'd go all over the ground but I've never tipped one over before.
So my issue with the stand is I'm not using the official fuel (which I can't find in stores where I live). My other gripes with it still stand. Its a decent system but room for improvement.
That's what I thought at first but I've seen reviews not only for jetboil but just in general those igniters are a pain in the butt after a few months of use.
