I feel where you coming from but I tell people to try and atleast go with 14k…kinda weird how 10k is considered gold when less than half of it is.

I can definitely tell the difference between 10 and 14k. I only have one 10k bracelet all the rest of my pieces are 14 or 18k and they’re darker and more rich in color.

I can vouch for this. I owned a 10kt solid rope at 2mm and decided that I would sleep in it. After about a week and a half, one of the end caps started to shear slightly. Now this probably could’ve happened with a higher purity chain just because the rope was so thin, but definitely something to be aware of.

This is a great point of view I’ve never looked at it like that about the stretching vs brittleness.

@@kw1kstr1k3 yeah 10k seems to be prone to shearing or shattering at the extreme ends of the size spectrum where 14k is generally more malleable. all small mm chains are prone to snapping more than bigger sizes, but the higher you go in karat you only have snapping risk with thin chains where karats in the 20s tend to deform. especially big cubans in 22/24k, they'll warp but that's better than a 10k or 24k 1.5mm snapping and falling off your neck. i personally just find 10k to look the worst because it's the palest, has the least value in the west and i like the malleability of higher purity gold. 14k is perfect for something you'll wear for 20 years, 18k is fine too but it depends on how you feel about scratches. 20+ is fine if you're okay with the natural wear and it's a large mm link so it doesn't break. color in the low karats is weird too. i've seen 9ct victorian jewelry that looks like bronzey rose gold 18ct pieces. it's probably the alloys they used going for that bronzey color specifically but i never see normal 10k take that color. i'd be more partial to it simply to have more of that victorian brassy gold look if modern 10k was made to mimic that quality of antique 9ct. 14k is my minimum but i prefer 14, 18 and 23/24 depending on what i do with the chain.

@@kw1kstr1k3 after playing with ropes in person i've become very picky about what types of chains i'm willing to buy, because i want pieces i can wear forever with no worry of damage. that's excluded a lot of chains i have lying around from frequent use because, solid peruvian rope or not, all it takes is a rounder stiff chain like a rope to bend at the wrong angle while youre sleeping and its broken or bent anchor chain/heavy link/rolos are my preferred link for the higher range of karats because they're girthy like a rounded chain but as flexible and kink free as a flat link chain

it’s all about the quality control of the manufacturer, if they’re not accurate with metals mixing and the machines aren’t working properly the end result is us complaining to the seller.

Word, a jewellers called H Samuel in UK have that “rosey” yellow gold color. It actually looked nice first time I saw it but when I read 9k, I just got turned off. I wear 18k(750), 19.2k(800), 21k(875) and 22k(916)

10k is the legal minimum in USA to be called gold.

I did just buy a 10k Tennessee titans pendant wish it was at least 14k but it was the only option. Huge color difference not a fan of it but still looks really nice considering there aren’t any other options
