i'm planning on getting started making my own jewellery, and tutorials like this are so invaluable for folks like me that are just getting familiar with 3d modelling, thanks for posting!
Great video. Just in case anyone has the same question I did at the end: If apply is greyed out you are probably still in edit mode. Go to object mode and it should work.
Here the community is very supportive, i learned alot, and your channel is no exception, eveey video is a new things to leaen, i wish you successful journey.
This video is hands down the best one out there for a beginner like me. Its far and away better than the tutorials produced by a self-proclaimed master! This "master" is definitely good at blender, but he is a rank amateur when it comes to teaching. You, on the other hand, teach with such grace that my confidence and ability with blender has doubled, at the very least. I promised to send you my work when I finished it and I still intend to. Thanks for every second of time you've put into these videos. If you never do another one, you will have helped me get past the utter confusion and frustration I was drowning in just a few weeks ago. Live forever.
Awesome tutorial, I was ripping my hair out over other Signet Ring tutorials on youtube but this was the only one that made sense to me. Detailed and descriptive, nice job dude.
I know I already fan-boyed on your last video, but seriously, your videos kick so much ass. Super easy to follow along but I’m actually learning what you are doing and why. And I am COMPLETELY new to Blender, nor have I used CAD for 12+ years. Your videos have already made 3D modeling way less intimidating. I really appreciate you making these 🤘🏼
Grace Note Forge Not sure how long you’ve been at this but you have it down! I am a jeweler, and all my creations are customize through rolling and shaping my metals and soldering them together. I know CAD/3D is the new thing and I would like to learn. CAD/3D can do things that would take me weeks to months to create. I was asked to create a tiara ring for the winners of Mrs Alaska and have a partial re-creation I have carved in wax but have access to a 3D printer
Thank you! I've been practicing 3D modeling for years now but I'm still pretty new to jewelry modeling/printing. 3D modeling a tiara ring sounds like a really cool challenge!
strange but simple modeling technique. interesting. but I prefer to make the rings through the curve modifier. then there is a possibility of resizing with less problems
I've used this tutorial to design a ring that is something like a low medium complexity. I actually had to go back and resize and I didn't have any issues with the physical outcome. Tell me, what problems do you foresee with this method? Genuinely curious.
@@abasis.baruti9819 well, for example. you need to make sizes from 16 to 23mm for mass production, they should be the same, differ only in size. plus in the video it's just a blank, and if you add decors. this is where the problems start. BUT for a single item, this method is probably the easiest and fastest
@@abasis.baruti9819 complex and voluminous topic. blender gives very great opportunities for paremtric modeling. A lot is automated in the Jewelcraft addon. but I recommend understanding how they work, a lot is done simply by adding modifiers, constraints, drivers, and of course their combinations. can't describe in a nutshell
Very good tutorial, really made sense to me as a newbie. I'm looking to design some box ring constructions in Blender to give me patterns to cut out of sheet metal, do you know if there's a way of printing off the surface of the Ring to do something like that? Then with your tutorial I'll have everything I need 😊
Hey man! Your content is great but I am struggling at 6:40. No matter what I seem to do when I try to make the top part of the ring of the ring bigger using G, S and even E it changes the shape of the entire ring instead. What can I do?
Do you have any idea on how i could model a signet ring, and then change the internal ring size, while keeping the ring thickness and top size the same, if that makes sense
The best way I've found so far is to use a lattice modifier and increase the resolution to have more control points. Then you can scale the whole thing up or down and adjust the top points for a different thickness. It takes a bit of tweaking sometimes but has worked well for me. 👍
@@GraceNoteForge also i have noticed using subdiv modifier, it makes the internal size of the ring smaller, as its smoothing it all out, is there anyway to avoid this? adding loop cuts and creases hasnt seemed to help
By the way, what would be the best technique/tools in Blender to place a logo or a small text on the top base of the ring and make it look embossed? Thanks in advance!
when I add the subdivision surface modifier i get what looks like a split in the very top and bottom, where as your goes smooth straight away, any fix?
@@ODVINE I found another comment on this vid which had a fix. Go back to the mirror modifier and make sure it's just the Y axis that's selected. I had Y and Z selected - just making sure it was Y fixed the issue!
nice tutorial, just an alert, you working with meters and not millimeters, everytime you said millimeters you typed M and not MM, so blender created a big ass 9 meters ring out of proportion, but very good tutorial at all.
I must be doing something wrong when I get to the shaping stage and I select the top 3 vertices as you did, but when I got to extrude them the whole ring deforms. Any idea what I did wrong? Love the video tho well done mate.
Hey mate quick question having a bit of trouble at the 12.44 minute mark my faces turn into lots of small squares when i try to use the insert function instead of all going in together . any thoughts ? when trying to raise the inside of ring
does anyone know why when I try to change the shape of the top it moves the entire ring and not just the selected vertex? would love some troubleshooting ideas. Thanks!
My best guess is If you're using the preposition editing, sometimes the area of influence is too high and moves everything. Try scrolling your mouse wheel down (if proportion editing is turned on) to only adjust the vertices you want.
hola, estoy comenzando a usar blender, pero no se como hacer aparecer el panel de edit para el looptools en el minuto 7:51, alguien podria ayudarme, tengo la configuración de fabrica del programa, versión 4.2
When I bump up the thickness of the ring, the measurement goes to -2.2m but when I go the other way (inwards towards the center of the ring ) it goes to the +. Any reason why measurement is going the opposite way? thanks
unfortunately once i got past adding the modify stage no mater what vertices i select, clicking G,Z moved the whole model instead of just what i selected in edit mode and i was unable to continue im using blender 3.3. how do i fix this ?
Hey Guys I also Need Help I just Made A Ring and I’m adding stones using jewel craft but the stones show up behind the ring.SUPER ANNOYING, I can’t do anything to make the diamonds show up on top of the ring. It’s like the diamonds are locked behind the ring layer 😭
At 08:14, when I dissolve the edges I cannot get rid of the edge in the middle. An edge along the Y-Axis remains and will not dissolve! How to fix this?
If you have a seam where the two mirrored parts meet and clipping is not enabled in the mirror modifier, you get a sharp upstanding edge. Is that what you mean?
When you added your mirror modifier and you clicked on the Y axis, you did not unclick the X axis. Only the Y axis should be selected. Took me two days and several restarts to realise what was happening.
4:46 when I add the subdivision modifier I get a line through the very top and bottom, how do I fix this, I've followed exactly how you have done it in the video
