It's striking to me that in 1997, he stated that he doesn't believe in the future. Here we are 20 years into his future, and in many ways, I can see why. What an incredible testimony, what an incredible man.

Mr. Eckstein gives a very raw, honest & profound testimony. The most vivid of all the survivor testimonies that I've heard. I could never judge someone who went through so much horrific suffering. The Shoah created a broken man. I pray that he found peace with Almighty God. Mr. Eckstein was an amazing man. We must never forget. We must stand & be counted, here & now. 🇺🇲🙏🏻🇮🇱

I knew David Eckstein personally. (I say "knew" in the past tense -- it has been many years since I have seen/heard of/from him and have no idea if he is still alive.) David was a tortured soul. He hurt - everything inside of him hurt. He never made peace with his history. He became a Buddhist because that was the only method he found that gave him SOME relief from the pain of what he endured. I loved David, still do. If he is still alive, I would love to re-connect.

Mr. Eckstein's testimony was very upsetting. The awful treatment he suffered at the concentration camps had a lasting and tragic effect on the rest of his life. He came across as a very gentle soul. His last words were so prophetic.

I’ve watched many many of these personal testimonies. While all are tragic, David’s story is haunting. He endured horrific things during the Holocaust only to live in physical pain and anguish. I hope he found some peace in his life in whatever way he could. I’m glad he shared his feelings and thoughts.

I've been watching many of these Shoah testimonies..as horrific as most are, they are important and these people earned some of my time. The lasting takeaway I have, and this one is no different, is how these people lived the rest of their lives after going thru this level of horror and trauma is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the will to survive.

David was never free, he couldn't get over his ordeal, who can blame him , as a result he felt victimized until the end , truly without any mental health counseling he lost more ; a life , that could have been fulfilled with much love and joy , and his Jewishness , sadly in his case it was not to be , how very sad and tragic Baruch Dayan HaEmet 🕯️

Who can blame his cynicism? I related to his attitude: people refuse to change and the self-servitude has gotten greater as I write this 26 years beyond this recording). He must have been relieved to leave this plane of existence. (Even at Full volume one can hardly hear the survivor, only the interviewer.)

This video hasn't been made for your entertainment, nor is it therapy for the interviewee, it's filmed as a historical document, therefore correct dates and names are vitally important.

Incredibly sad story. My heart goes out to him and the horror that he had to endure. The only survivor I have heard who is remotely critical of Israel who is currently carrying out a brutal genocide against the Palestinian people. Incredibly difficult to watch the oppressed morph into the oppressors.
