A few reasons this Mitzvah does not apply to a firstborn girl! 1) When the plague of the firstborns dying in Egypt happened, firstborn girls and boys died only from Egyptian families. If there was a native Egyptian family only the firstborn son died (the plague didn’t effect the girls). The Jewish nation being native to Egypt would’ve also only had their males die if not for G-d saving them. So therefore only boys are redeemed 😊 2) Another reason is that the Jewish nation only left Egypt in the merit of the Jewish women! So it wasn’t such a shock that the Jewish girls were saved because they were the ones that brought merit to the Jewish people. 3) the firstborns were the ones that were meant to serve in the Temple and when the sin of the golden calf happened it switched to the Descendants of Aharon instead. So we redeem the male firstborns born because they would’ve been the ones to serve. Women wouldn’t have either way served in the temple because women are exempt from all Mitzvot that have to do with time (because it would not be fair to their lifestyle. Just one example imagine a woman having to wake up by a certain hour to say the Shema prayer, something men are obligated to do, when they have been up all night feeding a baby! ;) It’s rather kind that we’re exempt from Mitzvot with time restraints!
I love this. I’m so tired of seeing children described as a burden, end to a woman’s life, just a clump of cells to get rid of, etc. As someone who couldn’t marry or have kids due to health issues, I can say that my niece & nephew are blessings & the best part of my life. My life is full of constant pain, inability to do basic things, but they make life worth living. Thanks for showing the world what life can be like if we live it serving & praising God. Most of our public examples of religious families are of people who are bitter, miserable, even abusive, which just pushes people away from God. Your family is like a light, a smile, a hug from God in a dark world. God bless your beautiful family. 🕍🥰
I love that you guys celebrate everything in life. It’s so positive and uplifting! I’m not sure if you’re suppose to say congrats but congrats to your family on the new baby and their new chapter in life. God bless!
Mazal Tov to the parents of the child who was born!! I've never been to this ceremony before since converting to the Reform Movement here in Cleveland, OH (07/18/18). I currently belong to Beth Israel - The West Temple and it's the only Reform Movement temple on the west side of Cleveland, OH (all of the other temples are on the east side since the Jewish diaspora here in my area lives there - especially the Orthodox Movement). This video definitely helped me understand what happens during this particular mitzvah and I'm so happy that the whole family enjoyed the event!! Thank you for posting this and Shabbat Shalom for this coming Shabbat (06/14 - 06/15/24)!!
Beautiful 😍 My first born had his pidyon haben the day after pesach ended. It was such a beautiful ceremony and the only pidyon I have ever been too. Mazal TOV!
You are doing a great job, Thank you for a great videos.. keep it up. As Lubavitcher a think you putting & representing the Jewish & the chsidic way beautifully..
Thank you so much for sharing your traditions and celebrations. I’m very interested in this. I was baptized Catholic but I retired from that religion. There is so much to learn. I accept people for who they are. I don’t judge race or religion because the heart and their honesty and acceptance and kindness is what matters most to me.
Mazal Tov . It is wonderful to see such a celebration I didn't have children so never saw a pidyan Ha Ben but remember reading a story from a beautiful book my mother bought me before my sister was born
I LOVE that life events are full of joy and celebrated by your community ❤️ Also thank you for your explanation in the comments on the girls being important in a different way . 😊 Your Mama looked just like a proud Grandma 🥰
A really interesting tradition. So many different things that happen within your religion. You can feel the excitement. Thank you for taking the time to explain to us. And yes, a child is priceless...
I love this Tradition!! I am so happy that you shared this with us, I learn more about your lovely Faith from every video!! Peace and Blessings your family!! XOXO
Thank you for showing this to us. I am not Jewish. But I had a great friend through my school years. So I learned a lot from her family. I love the Jewish culture!! Thx again keep up you great work
What a wonderful event! And so special because it doesn't happen that often. Your family seems so sweet and kind. I hope that you will come to Dallas, Texas. I would love to meet you all.
It not my first time hearing about this HOLY CEREMONY since it is spoken about in the HOLY BIBLE !!!!!!!!!!! with lots of love dear brother ❤️🔥🔥🔥❤️💒⛪💒🔥🕎🕎🕎🔥❤️❤️❤️🕯️🕯️🕯️❤️🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱❤️❤️
Hi. Love your channel!! Thanks for representing frum jews in a beautiful way.🤩😃 Also, I was only by one pidyon my first nephew Moishe. My husband was invited to one from work. I told him to go since he's never been to one. Keep the videos coming 😃😉
I am amazed to see that you pray exactly the same prayer as we do in a Nigeria Christian baby naming ceremony. ' May the Lord bless you and watch over you...... give you peace'. Thanks for sharing this amazing ceremony. May the Almighty bless and keep him. Amen
@@ThatJewishFamily I never used to think it was rare, because I know my brother had one. Then many years later, someone pointed out the statistics to me. (I married a Kohen, and my mother was disappointed that we could never have a Pidyon Ha Ben. I guess she fondly remembered her own simcha, and also didn't realize how rare they are.)
It is the name of the Lubavitcher Rebbe (Menachem Mendel) whose our mentor and inspired so many ❤ It’s a really special name for millions around the world! You’ll find many Chabad boys named menachem Mendel! ☺️
It is done in ancient Hebrew ☺️ but there are many prayer books that have the prayers translated in other languages side-by-side so people can understand what they are saying
Always been curious about the Jewish people. A wonderful beautiful people. I’m a Christian . I love the information , explaining things and happiness in your channel.
A great question. Unfortunately not, praying that nobody should suffer from having a stillborn 🙏 it’s really really rare this event because there has to be so many criteria ticked
The child must be the first fruit of a woman's womb. If the woman had a miscarriage or stillbirth and then a boy, the live boy child is not the first fruit of the womb.
I'm curious if this applies to baby girls and boys, or just baby boys? If so, what is the biblical reasoning behind this? Thank you for continuing to share your lives with us. One RU-vidr, Peter Santell (may have misspelled his last name) amazing videos on Orthodox Judaism and the different kinds. I'd love to see if he can do a video on Orthodox Judaism in Australia and more on the differences and similarities. He does videos on multiple cultures, countries, etc. Kind Regards, Nadine
I think it has to do with the priest service. I think there may be some circumstances where a male firstborn wouldn’t have this happen but I don’t think it ever happens with girls, which is why I think it may have to do with the priest service. There’s tons of interpretations for most things in Judaism, but I’ve consistently heard it mentioned in conjunction with the priest service.

Yeshua Hamashiach is coming very soon to Rapture his true believers. We must admit we are all sinners, believe he died for our sins, was buried and rose again from the grave on the 3rd day and must call upon his name for repentance. If we do this we shall be considered worthy to escape the great tribulation which is very soon about to begin. Love you all and please everyone confess your sins to the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ to be saved. Peace be upon all.
Trying to proselytize on a Jewish channel, talking about your dead messiah (who doesn’t meet any of the prophecies, and who isn’t divine anyways), is antisemitism and harassment. You may think you’re being a good person by spreading what you view is the truth, but it’s not been asked for nor is it wanted. So when you do this type of thing, when you go on a Jewish channel and try to push your religion, it’s seen by everybody else as disgusting. You’re very much entitled to your beliefs. And whatever you believe, should be respected. As long as you’re not forcing it down other peoples throats. Jews have literally been massacred over the centuries because of individuals like yourself that want to push their religion on others. That will kill others who don’t convert or embrace their beliefs. Maybe you are not aware of this history, but we most certainly are. Keep your religious views to yourself, and especially don’t go commenting them on a Jewish channel. Your account has been reported as well. Shavua Tov.
